Against All Odds is based on the 1949 film "Out Of The Past" starring Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas. Jane Greer, who played the mother in this version, played the daughter, Kathie Moffat, in the original. The daughter in this version was renamed Jessie Wyler. Paul Valentine, who played Councilman Wienberg, played Joe Stephanoes in the original.

Jeff Bridges and the guy that plays his agent, who ends up being killed, were also in the movie "The Contender" with Joan Allen and Sam Elliot.
It seems I wasn't the only one a bit confused about this film at times. Of Against All Odds, Roger Ebert once said, "There is a lot of plot in this movie --perhaps too much. The best thing to do is to accept the plot, then disregard it, and pay attention to the scenes of passion." He gave the film 3 stars.
