The film's original title was "Killbots" (and the prop makers still refer to the robots that way). This would have made a much better name for the movie, since there's no actual chopping in it.

Sherman Oaks Galleria, one of the film's two main locations, has figured in a few other 80s' films, including Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Innerspace and Commando.
When movies are made, scenes are often
left on the cutting room floor.
The TV network version has some minutes of aerial stock footage of Los Angeles added, as well as some more voice-over dialoge between the robot technicians and more scenes of Alison and Ferdy watching Attack Of The Crab Monsters on the TV set, like a small homage to Attack of the Crab Monsters.
Also an extension of one of the Ferdy/Allison scenes.
Sometimes, there will be several versions
of a movie floating about on cable, tv or video etc. Other times, a Director may
release a special cut of the movie.
