Xanadu Filming Locations:
These scenes were actually shot at Pan Pacific Auditorium - [Now destroyed], located in Hollywood, S. California. Google Map
The Auditorium was in the Pan Pacific Park in Hollywood and sadly burned down a few years after the movie was made. It was on the corner of Beverly Blvd and Gardner St in Hollywood zip 90036. Recently the city erected a sports center on part of that footprint and added a signature trademark flag "fin" like the old auditorium exterior. Another bit of trivia is that is was the same location used for the opening "Trailer Show" in the opening of the Lucy and Desi film "The Long Long Trailer". [Thanks to PJ]
Key scenes of the film were filmed at locally-revered LA landmarks such as Paradise Park (the park scene where Kira first "bumps" into Sunny), the Main Street district in Santa Monica (the van riding scene), Malibu Pier in Malibu and Venice Beach.
The outside sequence right before the animated section was shot at the Hollywood Bowl. [Thanks to Mike Martin]
The mural location (the mural is not there, it was added by special effects) was, in fact, at the end of Dudley Avenue at Venice Beach Boardwalk.
The Park where Sonny and Kira first meet at the beginning of the movie is Palisades Park, Ocean Blvd, Santa Monica, CA
The scene where Gene Kelley is taken to the "franchised Glitz emporium" was filmed at the now-defunct Fiorruci store on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills. It was formerly a movie theater, and afterwards a bank before being razed to make way for the Montage Hotel and Spa in 2004. [Thanks to Tom]
The "Platinum Palace" was on S San Fernando Boulevard in Burbank. It was a former Ralph's grocery store but demolished in 1985 to make way for apartments, now known as "Avalon Burbank" on the site.
The Muses run and turn into light at New York Street on the Universal Studios Backlot, Universal City, CA

Xanadu Shooting Locations
LX is our radical new locations feature that we've been beavering away on.. For years!
Each location will have it's own page with then/now pictures, maps, StreetView, discovery story and the most detailed explanations on how the location was used. Most importantly, the locations will have a status that shows whether they are verified correct and by whom. We are working with the actual locations managers or other crew where possible. The whole thing will be very interactive and you will, of course, be able to update everything.
