Mississippi Burning Locations
Locations Manager(s): Sandy Nelson
Under their watchful eye, the following special places were used for filming "Mississippi Burning":
The movie was filmed on location at a wide range of authentic Mississippi locations.
Interior shots in the Sheriff's Office, courtroom and stairs from the courtroom were filmed in the old Carroll County courthouse in Vaiden, Miss., an unused building built in 1905 and in disrepair in April 1988, the date of filming. (Falling brickwork threatened crew and extras). Though slated for designation as a National Historic Building, the courthouse is now gone. The courthouse had been the actual courthouse in Carroll County for years. It got in such bad shape a new one had to be built. There are in fact 2 county seats in Carroll County, Vaiden and Carrollton. [Thanks to B. Philley]
The following Misspissippi towns were also used: Bovina, Jackson, Ross Barnett Reservior, Vaiden and Vicksburg.
LaFayette Alabama on Hwy 431 was used for the Town square scenes as well as the Seat of Chambers County in Alabama.
Can you help? Do you know any of the Mississippi (or any other) filming locations used for Mississippi Burning? Please Update Us
Locations LinksIf you know of a good link for Mississippi Burning locations, please let us know.
LX is our radical new locations feature that we've been beavering away on.. For years!
Each location will have it's own page with then/now pictures, maps, StreetView, discovery story and the most detailed explanations on how the location was used. Most importantly, the locations will have a status that shows whether they are verified correct and by whom. We are working with the actual locations managers or other crew where possible. The whole thing will be very interactive and you will, of course, be able to update everything.
