One of my favorite American cinema icons is John Wayne. I own a lot of his movies on DVD and I just recently got on a "Duke" kick and bought some more. I haven't seen Donovan's Reef in years. I enjoyed it very much. It's a fun movie to watch. I also got Hondo, McKlintock, Hatari, Chism and Blood Alley.
My favorite movies of his is Big Jake, The Cowboys, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Searchers, and True Grit.
Any more Duke fans out there?

Hey Bionic! I'm with ya on lovin' The Duke. One of the best movies ever is The Searchers.

My favorite John Wayne movie is probably Fort Apache or The Sons Of Katie Elder. Other favorites are Chisum, The Undefeated, In Harm's Way, and Stage Coach. I went through a kick back in the early 90's and watched several days of a John Wayne Marathon on AMC.

Well I don't favor talking to vermin, but I'll talk to you just this once. You're not just getting started. The line's been drawn. What Billy did balanced the books so far. But if one of your men cross my land or even touch one of my cows, or do anything to that store, I'm not going to the sheriff, the governor, or the president of the United States. I'm coming to see you.

Searchers was a good film. I thought the Duke should have gotten the Oscar that year. He did a good job in that one.
Isn't the only Oscar he won for acting from True Grit?
A lot of times he isn't really acting...he's just being the Duke. But in the Searches and a few others like Island In The Sky, he actually attempts to go beyond that. It amazes me that he made like 170+ movies in his career. But back in the day they were cranking those westerns out one per week. But that is still just awesome.
