The 70s had the second best Horror movies. The 80s had the best ones.
I'm gonna say CARRIE and THE SHINING...but I'm not really sure if they were 70s or 80s.

Carrie with Sissy Spacek and John Travolta came out in 1976.

The Shining is from 1980.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. THE SHINING has a very 70s feel for me (brings back memories of riding a BigWheels in my childhood) but its an 80s flick....just barely.

I remember a scary TV movie with Sally Field...think it was called "Home For the Holidays" and someone was chasing her with a pitchfork.

Also very scary on TV was "Trilogy of Terror"...anyone remember that crazy troll?

"ai-yi-yi-yi-yi!"
African Zuni Doll
They sell those on eBay.

"When a stranger calls" in 1979 and "Black Christmas,Texas Chainsaw"etc...

I'd like to throw Jaws into the mix. I remember going to a night-time pool party where they projected the movie on the side of a building... [Cool]

The Exorcist is also a classic. The puke scene has been spoofed more times in more ways than any horror scene save the Shower Scene from Psycho

I got more classic my friend, the "Raggedyman"

"Dawn of the dead","Assault on precinct 13","Zombie Flesh eaters"from 1978.

Even The '70s HORROR MOVIES are better than '90s Horror movies!

"TORSO"!

GAV - you're definitely on the same page as me! you like HAMMER HORROR? or the movie that I thought was one of those - "BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW" that was a creepy movie!

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Yeah cool stuff!

Hammer horror was the biz!

What about "SUSPERIA","PROFONDO ROSSO"?Italian giallo movies were the testicles!

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

Dario Argento had some of the sickest stuff, SUSPIRIA being my favorite.

What is TORSO? I missed that one.

Posted by raggedyman (Member # 4065) on :

"CORPI PRESENTANO TRACCE DI VIOLENZA CARNALE, I" - (Bodies Wear Traces of Carnal Violence) a.k.a. TORSO - an Italian Horror movie directed by Sergio Martino. a Giallo / Slasher flick about a masked man killing college girls. LOVE that swamp sequence!

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Never seen "Torso" either.Have to track it down.

Yes Mamamia!"Susperia"is a gem and the score by "Goblin" creates the tension. It's just a great wall of noise.Excellent score!

"The Crazies"was fun from "George Romero"and "Dark Star".

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

"Martin",the 1978 vamp movie from "George"too.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

SUSPIRIA probably wouldnt even be that scary if not for the GOBLIN music...it makes the hairs on my arm stand up on end.
Okay. Will have to check out TORSO next.

Can't forget about the 1st Amityville Horror that's a classic too [Cool]

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I have Suspiria, a friend told me it was really good, and clips of it were in Terror in the Aisles. But, I could not get through 15 minutes of it, I couldn't understand what it was about, and I think something jumped through a window and either ripped someone's heart out, or stabbed them right in the heart...and I couldn't look, it was gross. I had to shut it off.

Argento is great! The documentary(DA's world of horror) on him a few years back was awesome, very interesting. You can see it on the"Sleepless"dvd extras or "Two evil eyes"dvd.

S.O.S-You're absolutely right in mentioning "Amityville Horror".That's a real classic!I'm going to cinema to see the remake, tommorrow. We'll see what it's like. What do you guys think of all these classic horror remakes that are being made? One after another they seem to happen.I liked "Dawn of the dead"remake recently.Have'nt seen "Texas chainsaw"yet, but i'm told it's bad, being from the director of the Will Smith flick "Bad Boys"!

The first 10 minutes of SUSPIRIA are friggin bone-chilling. I was alone in my house as a teen watching it and had to turn it off. The next day (when Mommy was home!) i watched it again. If you can get past the first ten minutes you should be okay.
Yes...I just ordered TORSO. Will have to come back and discuss that one after I watch it.
I think I'm gonna watch TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE today (in broad daylight!) cuz that is the one movie that really makes me wanna lock myself in a closet and cry.

Did anyone mention CREEPERS with Jennifer Connelly? Now that's a siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick movie!

Posted by StevenHW (Member # 509) on :

Anyone ever saw "The Omen" (1976) with Gregory Peck?

Posted by raggedyman (Member # 4065) on :

THE OMEN was a very creepy film. the kid was scary looking. DAMIEN: OMEN II was pretty creepy also.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I always see people that remind me of people in my real life in the movies, and no lie- the kid in the Omen looked like my cousin, we all thought it in my family too. I always wondered what that kid looks like today, does anyone know?

That movie freaked me out, the end I remember when they dig up the skeleton of the baby, and all the dogs at the cemetary...that was really scary.

And when the Nanny hangs herself. I just have no clue how they put kids that small in those movies, how they even understand how to "act" at that age. To me that is the amazing part.

Didn't he have the 666 number on the back of his head?

When he was riding his tricycle and knocked the mom over the staircase, that was pretty freaky.

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Yeah "Phenomena"-a.k.a-"Creepers" came out in 1986(but i'll let you off,Ha Ha !)is a great film! It's a wierd one too.

Nice one "Mama".

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

I realized a little too late I was naming 80s ones in the 70s forum....but I think talking about Dario Argento is what brought that slip up.

OMEN was one of the first (if not THE first) horror movies I ever saw as a kid and just about traumatized me. Man...to this day I cant stand the sight of that kid!

Did anybody mention....The 1st PHANTASM it was made in 78 0r 79. But it was mostly popular in the '80s cause it came out so close to the end of the '70s decade.

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Yeah Mr Son of Al.I mentioned "Phantasm" way back.I love it and the score is as good yet underrated in comparison with say the "Halloween score.I hope they don't ruin "Phantasm" and remake it.The follow ups were no way near as cool.It came out in 1979.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

I think when PHANTASM 2 came out in the 80s it got people to rent part one which was waaaaaaaay better than Part two. I stll havent seen parts 3 & 4.
"BOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!"
- Tha Tall Man

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Yes!Tall man! What a scary dude.He reminds me of the reverend in "Poltergiest"2,3.I've seen up to part 3 and can't remember if i've actually seen the 4th "Phantasm".

What about Cronenberg with "Shivers","Rabid"Starring Marilyn Burns(70's porn queen who was also in "Texas chainsaw)and "The Brood"with Oliver Reed.

Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :

RABID was friggin nasty. I couldnt watch the whole thing.

Part of Gav's post:

Gav, I think you are confusing the two Marilyns!

You meant Marilyn Chambers, (of "Behind The Green Door" fame) [Smile] She was never in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies, but she did appear in Cronenberg's "Rabid".

Marilyn Burns was in the original "Texas Chainsaw", but no porn flicks!

According to the IMDB.com, Cronenberg's first choice was Sissy Spacek for that role. But executive producer Ivan Reitman wanted sex appeal, and he didn't want Spacek in another horror movie (she was also in "Carrie" the previous year).

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Yes STEVENHW my knowledge is'nt what it was.Yes you caught me out.Next it'll be Marilyn Manson starring in "Some like it hot"and Monroe in a daft band.

Yeah STEVE i heard about Sissy Spacek being the first choice.

How about Dracula AD 1972
and The Satanic Rites of Dracula with a young Joanna Lumley, London at its swinging best!!

Another "period" piece I love is The Curse of the Crimson Alter, Boris Karloff looking old but still having fun in the horror role (sorry this may have been 60's please dont all shout at me)

Posted by Gav (Member # 4075) on :

Ahhh you have to be thickskinned in this game.

Yeah Chris Lee was a cool Drac.I don't know the year of the Karloff one, though.
