I watched this movie in the late 80s on TV and have yet to figure out what it was....

It had a West Side Story vibe to it...there was a girl and some guy from "the other gang" liked her but their peers disapproved.

The very end has the guy driving his motorcycle into the high school, she gets on, and they drive off.

The soundtrack seemed to be songs from the same group, which was popular at the time (I thought it was INXS, but I'm pretty sure now it wasn't). Not Dogs From Space either.

This, of course, must be THE best coming-of-age movie there ever was..

Wow! Fast response compared to the 26+ years I've been trying to figure out what it was! I may have to pay the $3 on Amazon to watch it again.

I'm surprised I couldn't figure it out with those semi-big names in it...Aidan Quinn, Daryl Hannah, Adam Baldwin (one of my favorite 'B-List' actors)!

And from the trailer, INXS IS in the soundtrack, and I'd tried searching for soundtracks they'd been in too.

Thanks!

Such a awesome movie that makes for great repeated viewing and i loved the steel town setting along with the soundtrack and cast.

Fancy grabbing it off my shelf actually for another viewing!

Johnny Rourke may very well be the best written character in any "teens-on-the-brink-of-adulthood" movie
of the decade. There's more depth to his character than the five teens from The Breakfast Club combined
(and don't get me wrong, i love The Breakfast Club).

He's the tough guy born on the wrong side of the tracks, but at the same time he's very vulnerable, looking
desperately for a way out of a bleak existence. Aidan Quinn's performance is superb, making Johnny Rourke
a complex, three-dimensional character (which is pretty rare for this type of movie, i think).

A true classic of the decade, and i really hope there will be a blu-ray release sometime soon !
