"Freelance reporter Jennifer and her two friends, Karen and Vicki,
accept an invitation for cheap room and board in a large farmhouse offered by a friendly,
but shady, museum owner named Ernest Keller since all the motels in and around town are booked
for a holiday parade fair Jennifer is covering. But unknown to the women, some unseen "thing"
has been living in the basement of the house for over 20 years and is looked after by Keller and his shy sister Virginia,
in which the "thing" soon gets out and begins harassing and killing the women one by one
in various violent, but seemingly accidental, means." (IMDb)

This was a good, atmospheric horror film directed by Danny Steinmann (Savage Streets, Friday V)
The movie was written by Steinmann, effects meister Stan Winston and Thomas R. Burman.

The cast includes three lovely ladies, former Bond girl Barbara Bach, Karen Lamm and Lois Young.
Sydney Lassick is excellent and sleazy as Ernest Keller
and Stephen Furst (Animal House, Midnight Madness, Up the Creek) is awesome
as the mongoloid "junior" locked in the cellar.

Yes, itīs slow at times like early 80s horror flick usually are
but i loved the sleazy atmosphere, this was one mixed-up "family" living in the farmhouse.

Early 80s horror fans should check this out!

Code-Red dvd released this on dvd few years ago but i think that itīs already OOP.

Here in Holland, The Unseen rental-tape could easily be found in practically every videostore
that was in business since the early 80's, but practically vanished as soon as the format's heyday was over.

The Unseen first turned up on a drab-looking UK dvd over a decade ago, which didn't do the movie
any favors quality-wise.

Indeed there was a Code Red special edition double-disc set released in 2008 with a good-looking,
but not exactly pristine, new widescreen transfer and tons of bonus features.

That lovely early 80's horror atmosphere is omni-present in this one, and it would make an excellent
double-feature with the recently-released-on-disc The Boogens for a night of typical videostore-era chills. [Smile]

the unseen is a decent early 80s horror, sydney lassick from "cuckoo's nest" is suitably creepy here and you guys are right about the early 80s horror atmosphere that sets this apart from most horror which appeared later in the decade and over the next few decades.

i have the cheap u.k full screen dvd and it is not of the best quality, overly dark transfer for a film which contains numerous darlky shot scenes doesn't do the movie much justice.

saying this i only paid somewhere between Ģ1 to 2 pounds for it so in that respect i thought it was well worth it.

when the code red dvd first came out it was around the 10 - 15 pound mark,i was very tempted but was hoping for the price to drop, never did get round to ever purchasing it and now it goes for silly money!

maybe it will get reissued at some point or perhaps a blu ray release.
