Ok it was released 2 January 1987 [Wink] )

Watched Wisdom (written and directed by Emilio Estevez) last weekend
and while i think that itīs a good film, the story has itīs weak points.
I just kept wondering how stupid the FBI was but itīs an entertaining movie if you donīt think too much.

Thereīs also a twist in the end and while many people think that itīs a washout, i liked it.

The cast is good:

The runaways Emilio Estevez and Demi Moore, i believe that they were a couple when this was filmed.
Estevezī Ma and Pa Veronica Cartwright & Tom Skerritt, already partners in Alien (1979).
Charlie Sheen gives a cameo appearance.

I love the score, composed by Danny Elfman
and of course you can hear Oingo Boingo song too.

Any thoughts?

Hereīs a cool German VHS cover art:

I recently bought this one on its dvd-r release from the Warner Archives collection.

Unfortunately they didn't pay much attention to their sleeve-design :

Wel, anyway.. at least the transfer was good though.

It's indeed far from being a perfect movie, but essential 80's movie viewing without a doubt.

When it comes to acting, Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartright far outdo the rest of the cast.
I thought they were really good, although their characters have fairly limited screentime here.
The stand-out scene for me is when they get the phonecall from their son on the run, apologizing
to his parents for his actions.

There's also a spectacular car-chase near the end of the movie.

Reportedly Emilio Estevez was the youngest person ever to write, star and direct a studio-financed production.

I think Young Warrior has something to say about this movie as well. [Wink]

I second that the car chase is excellent.

On a side note.. Tom Skerritt had his 79th ( ! ) birthday last month.

I would have guessed he was at least 10 years younger.

you know it's not going to end happy, but wait, there's a twist,or a cop out as some viewers have called it.
really liked this movie, estevez and moore are great together, also love the music score by danny elfman,i'd go as far as saying, well in my oppinion anyway this is one of the most underated movies of the 80s.

http://youtu.be/apP29YfXYNI - love the opening scenes and music to wisdom.

i'd put tom skeritt in the same group of actors that just ooze coolness such as charlie bronson, tom atkins, roy scheider etc.

wow! 79 you'd never have guessed, everything tom skeritt has starred in - poltergeist 3,hell camp aka opposing force, the big town i've never known him once to turn in a dud performance.

the guy is a class act!

i love wisdom and for anyone who has never seen it i would say definitely give it a watch,i really think it's a great movie and one of the most underated from the 80s.

I really like it. Near the end after Demi Moore runs into the policeman at the gas station, and then Emilio gets mad in the car and is saying bad words....I laugh my head off.

They have been showing this on the movie channel recently. Always been a fan of young Emilio movies. An 80's Demi Moore is a plus too. A good Bonnie and Clyde type movie.

They were a couple when Wisdom was filmed. I have never seen this, by the way.

This is one I keep forgetting to watch. For the last 25 years. Finally gonna remember to watch it, thanks to this thread.

I went through such a "in love with Emilio" phase around the time of Young Guns.......I swear I mailed into one of those things in the back of a magazine and got a "signed" (with a stamp pad) B&W photo........I never saw thsi one and always meant too.....i'm going to get on that now!

I found Wisdom so-so at best... there was a reason it tanked. It also seemed like a bit of a vanity project. I think Emilio was trying to do something like his dad's 'Badlands' for the 80's.

Muffles... I didn't even think there was such a thing as an Emilio Estevez fan! [Eek!]

Now 'Maximum Overdrive'... that one I actually enjoyed...
