Devolution here,

There are a finite number of songs that can be used appropriately in movies. One of the most overused songs of the 80's was "Oh Yeah" by Yello.

What are some other songs that are in more than one movie? A shocking one to me was True Lovin' Woman by Jack Mack and the Heart Attack which was in Spring Break and Police Academy.

Do some movies instantly become cooler with better songs?

Dunno about same songs in movies yet, but Ladyhawke would have been better with a better soundtrack and less 70s supergroup prog rock...

How about The Gleaming Spires - Are You Ready For The Sex Girls... used in "Revenge Of The Nerds" and "The Last American Virgin."

The Fletch song is obviously in Fletch and Fire With Fire.

Seems like the song "The Future's so bright I have to wear shades" was used in several 80's movies...Dream a little dream and Something Wild come to mind...I think Summer School too?

How about Yakety Yak in TWINS & The GREAT OUTDOORS.

One classic example is the Real Life tune "Send Me an Angel" which you can hear in
Rad (1986), Teen Wolf Too (1987) and The Wizard (1989).

And yes, some movies instantly become cooler with better songs.

It was also used in the 90's movie Tommy Boy

The Steppenwolf song "Born to Be Wild" must be one of the most used tunes in movie history.
You can hear it in 80s films like The Wild Life (1984), Fandango (1985),
Lost in America (1985) and One Crazy Summer (1986).

The other Steppenwolf classic "Magic Carpet Ride"
was in 80s movies like Getting Wasted (1980), Purple Haze (1982),
Mask (1985), Legal Eagles (1986) and Casualties of War (1989).

Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was used in Platoon and Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love was used in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and The Cable Guy.

The song The Road Leads To Nowhere by actor David Hess was originally used in Last House On The Left,
but turned up again many years later in Eli Roth's Cabin Fever.
