Devolution here,

It's a great movie, I think the problem is that it's one of the few teen movies where things don't go right for the main character.

Yeah, and the soundtrack is amazing.

The last American Virgin is a classic. Life is cruel sometimes.

There's two things I hate about this film...the hooker scene & the Carmella scene kinda makes me sick!!

Do I love the three girls the guys pick up at the ice cream shop? Yes! Do I love how they go back to Gary's house & hang out & chaos breaks out? Yes! I love Rose, I totally enjoy the soundtrack and I can even handle the bummer of an ending cause it's true to life. Not everyone ends up sitting on a table with their crush & a birthday cake [Frown] .

awesome movie stanton, suprised you don't like it,each to there own though,as for the downer ending where gary doesn't get the woman of his dreams and live happily ever after and instead leaves the party heartbroken , i think it adds a touch of realism to the proceedings, that and the earlier abortion scene touch on subjects and feelings not usually found in movies of this type. ie. 1980's sex comedys

great movie with a excellent soundtrack

I can think of only one other teen coming-of-age film that has an even more miserable ending, a real obscurity from way back in 1974 called "Our Time," a/k/a "Death of Her Innocence," starring Pamela Sue Martin and Parker Stevenson. I saw it way back in the day on the great "CBS Late Movie," and I just sat there stunned for a long time. I couldn't believe it. It is so harrowing that it makes the ending to "The Last American Virgin" seem like a day at the beach. I was shocked to learn that you can buy it from the Warner Archive. I had thought that it had completely fallen off the face of the earth. I may have to get a copy just to clear the room of drunken guests at the end of a party. [Smile]

Here's a great thread where we discussed "The Last American Virgin" in depth:

Saw this on HBO in '82 or '83 when I was too young to get it. 25 years later loved it! As mentioned by Devo and Warrior it has a
Great soundtrack.
Love the keyhole scene,
The party with the 3 girls, using flour as a fake drug and Gary putting the moves on Millie while she continues to mac on potato chips.

Supernerd Victor was good for a hoot or too also.

To fully understand this film you have to remember that it´s a remake of the first classic Lemon Popsicle (1978) film.
It was also directed by Boaz Davidson and made in Israel. I highly recommend the Lemon Popsicle series to all open minded teen comedy fans.

I've seen the first one in the original Israeli series. As I recall, The Last American Virgin follows it fairly closely.

Would like to check out Lemon Popsicle but have never run across it.

If you've seen The Last American Virgin then you've seen Lemon Popsicle. Scene for scene their virtually identical films all up until the last 15-20 minutes when the movie makes that major shift in tone.

A couple of years ago, there was a Lemon Popsicle box-set released in the UK by a company called Jef Films.
It was labeled "The Ultimate Popsicle Movies Collection 1-7". Picture quality was decent enough in mostly
fullframe transfers, except for part 2 which, in all honesty, looked plain awful.
Surprisingly, in addition to the English dub, original Hebrew audio tracks were included (no subtitles though).

I think it can be considered a grey-market release, but everything seemed to be intact, including all of the
original rock n roll songs on the soundtrack. Until something better comes along, this box gets the job done.

Strangely though, part 8 (called Summertime Blues, 1988) was NOT included.

Love it. The most realistic ending for a teenage film I've ever seen. Nice guys finish last. [Frown]
