This is a reboot, but since "The Initiation" discussion started up again last night .. I thought it might be fun to throw this film in the mix.

"The House on Sorority Row" is a stylishly-filmed 80's slasher film. The plot focuses on a group of sorority sisters who have just graduated from college, but before they leave for the summer they are planning one final sorority house bash. However, their ederly house mother is totally against it and she demands that they all leave the house at once. Annoyed by the house mother's demands.. they decide to play a prank on her, but it goes awry and she winds up dead. Panicking, the girls try to hide the body.. okay, while this movie follows all the rules of 80's slashers, it is still kind of unique and fun to watch.

Kate McNeil was excellent as Katherine and it just felt like she should have been in more entertaining movies in the 80's. Her character was the moral conscience of the audience and it helped make the movie more believable.

 -

And "Young & the Restless" fans will enjoy seeing a very young Eileen Davidson. Also, most people will recognize Harley Jane Kozak from the C. Thomas Howell flick "Side Out".

 -

The real reason to watch "The House on Sorority Row" is for the awesome 80's party. The fashion, the music, and of course the party band called '4 out of 5 Doctors'.

While this flick played it serious most of the time, there was enough humor to keep me entertained. Best laugh was the trash bin into the Police car moment.

 -

Oh and similar to "April Fool's Day" beware of freaky looking clown-in-the-box!

 -

The director did an outstanding job of making the movie visually appealing. The pic above with all the colors is a perfect example.

The premise of this flick has been used several times since with even a recent remake titled "Sorority Row", but I still prefer this version best.

Valley, looks like this one just got a 2 disc special edition release, just this year.

Supposed to be HD, with commentary including Eileen Davidson (who I was a fan of, when she played Kristen on Days Of Our Lives [Smile] ) ..and plus, an alternate ending.

The remake was ok. Only saw it once.

Seems like Netflix has this now. I've seen the remake but not the original.

I liked the remake which is usually not the case for me. The funnest part of the remake was that I did not like any of the main characters. All those stuck up, self centered, rich, pretty, mean b*tches deserved what they got! LOL

This has been released in the US on dvd no less than 3 times !

The first one by Elite Entertainment over a decade ago.
The second one being a 25th anniversary edition by Liberation Entertainment.
And the third one a two-disc special edition by Scorpion Releasing.

Here's a review of the movie as well as the disc's specs and extra's of the latest release :

I watched the remake when it came the movie channels.. it was decent, but this version from the 80's was far superior.

Ronnie.. I'm totally interested in the commentary that you mentioned for the 2-disc special release.
