This was on a local station this afternoon in the area. An unusual vehicle for Jim Carrey indeed, although certainly this early in his career he really didn't have much say, of course. I'd rate it on the positive side of average all in all; while no masterpiece, the plot is certainly reasonable enough, and Carrey is entertaining as he slowly sinks and tries to fight back against vampirism. Cleavon Little's character is quite entertaining in his own right as well.

Chris.. I've always loved "Once Bitten"!

 -

It was just a fun movie with a very young and rather unknown at the time Jim Carrey. And Karen Kopins is such the babe in this film.

 -

Both pyro and Ronnie will be here soon to add to this thread. Pyro is always talking about how much he enjoys "Once Bitten" and Ronnie hooked me up with the soundtrack awhile back. That is something I never really did until recently. I've always appreciated the 80's soundtracks, but never seeked them out thinking it might cause me to overplay the tunes from the movie. Times are a changin' though!

My favorite scene has always been the "But I'm not wearing a costume" Halloween school dance. And the stylishly awkward "Hands Off" dance routine!

 - (RL - press to play)

And Muffy .. similar to "Friday The 13th: Part 2" this is another film with a Stuart Charno sighting. ha

once bitten is a great little known (well, apart from on this site)80s comedy,i've actually not long aquired this on dvd,got it for my birthday from my wife along with volunteers & the rachel papers.

i can remember when this first came out on vhs back in the mid 80s and seeing it in my local video store and thinking that looks fun but never getting round to renting it!
wish i had,but at least i've seen it now and enjoyed it!

Just like warrior, i didnīt see it in the 80s
but i bought the UK dvd few years back and i like the movie very much.

The theme tune "Once Bitten" performed by 3-Speed is a fantastic song.

"Once Bitten" has been a favorite of mine for years ever since I first saw it as a kid. Jim Carrey was virtually unknown then, but after seeing him in this and "Earth Girls Are Easy", even back then I had a feeling this guy was going to go on to bigger better things one day.

Like Valley, I too was never much for seeking out movie soundtracks. Not because I was afraid of overplaying them, but because like most kids, I didn't get real serious about music until I was an early teen..and that was in the 90's. Even so, the music on this soundtrack always stood out to me. It's a pretty diverse playlist of songs and artists. But it still manages to tie together somehow and keep that pop/rock sound and vibe that's pretty definitive of the decade. The music is just...Fun! To this day, I still know virtually nothing about the bands on this soundtrack. But, that's OK...they still made some great jams for a great 80's comedy! [Cool]

Karen Kopins is a total cutey in this movie! I would have given my left eye to have a GF like that back in Highschool.

But the dance scene is definitely the Highlight scene. And damned if I didn't get a couple pre-teen chubbies over Karen in that scene. And Lauren Hutton isn't too shabby here either. Let's just say if it was me, I'd totally be torn between the two just like Jim is in this scene as well. But you gotta give some nods to Jim too. He busted out some pretty intense dance moves here. Who knew being among one of the top funny men, he also was quite the accomplished dancer.

Pyro, you know I love this soundtrack. Cool insight there, on the music!

haha.."A tasty comedy".. [Big Grin]

Valley - great clip with the Halloween dance scene. [Wink] Another great scene is at the beginning, when the guys are cruising through Hollywood in the ice cream truck...checking out the scene, with the title track playing by 3-Speed.

I've always loved this movie....it used to tie with My Best Friends a Vampire....but I think now i'd push it to #1....because of the sdtrk......I don't think of Carrey as being Jim Carrey in it....he's just Mark.

I loooooooooooved the club with the heart phones.....so 80s and so great.

Totally agree with you both and I'll add in "Peggy Sue Got Married" too. Though you see a small glimpse of his future in it during the blood donation scene where he entertains everyone.

But I remember renting "Once Bitten" and just being impressed by this unknown lead actor .. and never connected the dots until years later.

And what a fantastic job by the casting director in "Earth Girls Are Easy" to nab Goldblum, Carrey, and Wayans. [Smile]

Love the movie and the soundtrack. I forgot how fun it was when I got the DVD a few years back. Wish Carrey was in more of these 80's movies. Would have been a gas in Bachelor Party or Nighshift.

Just finished watching this. Still good after all these years. Favorite parts were....I kinda thought I looked like deniro, the drive in scene and any scene with Carreys redheaded buddy.
