This is actually a re-boot of a previous thread .. but Kev mentioning that he picked it up made it seem like the right time for it! [Cool]

 -

It is important that when you watch "Iron Eagle" that you suspend reality and just enjoy a kicking ride.  This movie is an 80's arcade kid's dream where you get to not only use a flight simulator, but actually fly real F-16s into battle.

The soundtrack is incredible with a mixture of tunes from Queen, Twisted Sister, Spencer Davis Group, and James Brown that link directly with memorable moments in the film.

 -

My favorite scenes in the movie are when "The Eagles" work together to make it possible for Doug Masters (Jason Gedrick) and Chappy Sinclair (Louis Gossett Jr.) to develop a plan to save Doug's dad from execution in a foreign land.  The montage to "We're Not Gonna Take it" is so much fun.

 -

Great list of familar 80's actors/actresses in this flick:  Michael Bowen, Jerry Levine, Shawnee Smith, Larry B. Scott, Melora Hardin, and Tim Thomerson.

But the best finds in this movie are:  Robbie Rist as Milo.. think the dreaded Oliver from "The Brady Bunch".  He was actually quite the unsung hero in "Iron Eagle" with his computer skills.  And Bobby Jacoby as Doug's little brother Matt..  not only has Bobby Jacoby gone on to success as an actor, he is also the real life brother of Billy Jacoby from "Just One of the Guys" and Laura Jacoby from "RAD" and "Valley Girl".

I know Muffy and JAY LEE are fans.. but who else is going to admit that they are an "Iron Eagle" fan? [Big Grin]

i never took much to the three sequels but the original was class!
for $1 kevdug that is some bargain!
imagine if the movie was made now they could have chappy and doug fly into iraq or afghanistan while listening to snoop dog, eminem, lady gaga etc. on there ipods, kill a few iraqis of afghanis rescue dougs dad and then fly off happy into the sunset or would that be a bit to controversial! [Smile]

Good point; in the 80s you could shoot up half a country and get away clean with it (Rambo's entire career is proof). Still, it is an enjoyable picture that warrants repeat viewing.

Good call Valley. I've seen the original as a kid, but have yet to see any of the sequels....bought part 2 not long ago as well. For some reason, didn't already have this in my collection, then, BOOM....flea market for $1 = score. * I'll go so far as to say I don't remember much about the movie, but am sure I've seen it....will kinda be a first watch for me....hopefully soon.

Chappy!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched it for the 1st time last year and I really loved it....to quote JayLee

"THE REAL 80's FIGHTER JET FLICK! Not that other self important sausage fest with that guy who laughs like a maniac, and prays to aliens.... what's his name again???"

oh Jay.....

it really is a great story about friendships and kids fighting the system!!

A buddy and I were talking about this the other day cause he was going to see Super8.....he said there were so many great "kids banding together against the world" movies in the 80s....they don't make enough of them now....I gotta agree!

I still haven't seen part 2...should I? Kev get on it!

I haven't watched it in years but I love Iron Eagle. So much so that I used to watch it every time I saw it playing on HBO when I was a kid. Then I went and saw the sequel in the theater. Wasn't there 2 sequels? Didn't they go and kill off Doug at the beginning of Part 2, as an excuse to have another actor and character in the sequel? I guess Gedrick didn't want to do another one, can't say I blame him, the movie didn't need any sequels. They could've just called them something else.

Iron Eagle is a good movie and the soundtrack rocks.
I recently bought the soundtrack cd.

I own the first two movies but there are actually three sequels.
Louis Gossett Jr. played Charles 'Chappy' Sinclair in all four movies.

Iron Eagle II isn´t nearly as good as the original and i´ve only watched it once
but it also has a great soundtrack.

Iron Eagle 2 Muffy? Of all the 80's movies I have, and haven't seen....this is pretty low on the list....you might just be tall enough to get on carnival rides before I see this one young lady!!

I prefer sequels over remakes usually.. but only if the majority of the original cast returns for the sequels.

The all-time worst example for me is "Hardbodies 2" .. they not only replaced the main characters with different actors, but they keep them as those characters (Scotty & Rags) from the original. It came as a double feature when I bought "Hardbodies" on its dvd release a few years back. This sequel was so bad that I had to turn it off midway through. Poor James Karen "ROTLD" and Fabiana Undenio "Summer School" did their best to entertaining .. but the script must have been written in one night it seems.
