Great Outdoors came to mind right away.
Summer Rental for sure.
Friday the 13th, perfect!
Field of Dreams, like this one more in the spring when baseball is starting, but still good.

Hmmm might have to think about this one some more.

As soon as I read the title of this thread, The Great Outdoors was the first movie to come to mind. It's a tradition for me to watch it every summer with someone. I'm glad to see others have mentioned it too.

On a similar note, when I went on my first vacation to Weirs Beach, New Hampshire about a year ago, I couldn't help but think of The Great Outdoors. It's a beautiful area that has arcades, small restaurants, a drive-in movie theater, lakes for boating and other water activities, a water slide park, and a ton of other fun places. I think this would have been a alternative filming location to Bass Lake, California for The Great Outdoors if John Hughes had scouted it in pre-preproduction.

I like a lot of the other picks mentioned already, but one of my favorites even though it isn't technically a summer movie is Spring Break. The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida setting makes it ideal summertime viewing.

Caddyshack is the brilliant one for me! Endlessly quotable, completely unforgettable. Nothing quite like caddy high-jinx on the links. "You guys want to be replaced by golf carts? Keep it up"

I also immediately thought of Summer School too. Mr. Shoop, Annamaria and the rest...as Dave and Chainsaw would say "Two Thumbs Up!"

Wanted to bump this. With all the warm weather this year I'm getting the urge for summer movies. Already watched The Great Outdoors last week!

I watch National Lampoon's Vacation every summer before I go on vacation. I'm always thankful I don't have misadventures like the Griswolds lol. Other summer movies for me are the Lost Boys and the Great Outdoors.

Wet Hot American Summer (2001)

Though not actually an 80's movie, it is set in the 80's, and a very funny film to boot. So I definitely will be adding it to my list.

For those still unfamiliar with this movie, here's the thread:
