This 1985 sports romantic comedy was one of the last death nail in the coffin for director Hal Ashby. It stars Michael O'Keefe and Rebecca De Mornay.

The film is about a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves who meets and marries a rock singer. Once after they hooked up, O'Keefe's character is thriving with his team while De Mornay's character's career was faltering.

The film was a critical and commercial flop when it was released and is one of Ashby's last films he directed before his death in 1988 (the other was 8 Million Ways to Die). The script was also written by Neil Simon.

One of the songs off the soundtrack, "Oh Jimmy" was performed by De Mornay herself and the track was nominated for a Razzie as Worst Original Song.

What was everyone's opinion about this movie? Was it bad as it was back then or do you actually like it?

*STILL* haven't seen it - even though I love Neil Simon!

This is an extremely disappointing movie, Logan, especially with all the talent involved. It's one of those wistful-mismatched-folks-find-love-after-numerous-tribulations plots that Neil Simon used to do, like "Chapter Two." But O'Keefe and DeMornay are always worth a look...

Watched The Slugger´s Wife yesterday.
It was a decent romantic sport flick and nothing more.
It´s not dialogue heavy like most Neil Simon movies and here´s the reason why:

"The film was taken away from director Hal Ashby in post production
because Ashby had turned in too many scenes without the dialog written by 'Neil Simon'."
(IMDb)

In fact it did not feel like a Simon flick at all.

Michael O'Keefe was very annoying in the beginning
but you learn to like his character in the end, maybe [Cool]
Rebecca De Mornay and Lisa Langlois were pretty and they sang few tunes each.
Check out also Lynn Whitfield (Doctor Detroit) in a small part.

I liked O´Keefe´s baseball friends Randy Quaid and Cleavant Derricks the most.
Funny characters. Danny Tucker was also good as coach O´Brien.

There was lots of music and club scenes (Club Limelight) which i liked.
The girls did a pretty good job and you can also here tunes from
Klymaxx, James Ingram, Van Stephenson and Don Felder.
Especially the Don Felder tune rocks!

Not a bad movie for 80s freaks but don´t expect too much.
