Here's how it works.. below is a list of candidates both male and female to choose from for your Favorite 80's Movie Prom Date.

Please choose one guy and one girl that are your favs and post it on this thread between now and Sunday 2/27. Winners will be announced early next week.

There are two 'write-in' candidates available as well.. the only rule is that the 80's movie they are from had to have a dance on the school premises at so point during the film. So for instance.. "Teen Wolf" would fit the criteria and be eligible.

I want as many people as possible to participate and open discussion about all candidates is encouraged.

Voting openings now!

Great topic. Thanks for alerting me to it Valley!

My favorite prom couple would be Julie Richman (Deborah Foreman) and Ren McCormick (Kevin Bacon)!!! Sorry I am having computer problems I cannot ad pics [Mad]

Posted by Bamersy (Member # 8808) on :

I'll take-

 -
Jake Ryan

 -
and Joe Fisk [Smile]

I'll love to nominate Frankie from Tuff Turf-but I guess a warehouse doesn't make the school dance criteria [Smile]

Posted by Jessie the Sunflower Goddess (Member # 1877) on :

I wanted to put Jake down but I didn't know if he counted. If I get a second vote, which I think Valley will let me have I would most definitely pick Michael Schoeffling and Virginia Madsen!

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Jessie.. I'm pretty sure the judge will allow "Sixteen Candles" and "Fire With Fire" .. both had a dance on the school premises. But your first choice of Julie Richman - Valley Girl and Ren McCormack - Footloose are actually my selections as well.

Bamersy.. nice to see that you want to be a rebel and pull a Nick Hauser by breaking the rules by picking two guys and a girl from a warehouse dance. But rules were made to be broken it appears.. so we will work on it for ya!

I'm NOT picking Jake! haha

But I will pick

Lanie (Dream a Little Dream)
 -

and

Johnny (Reckless)
"Swoooooooooooon"

 -

I know, I know I had to pick my own...I did follow the rules.....but you sure did make a good selection Valman!

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

P.S I'm going to geek out and find them in dance screen shots from the film before the deadline [Big Grin]

I hereby declare this whole thread to be a complete sham based on the glaring omission of the following 2 characters.

Ali Mills...

 -
 -

and Christian Hollings

 -
 -

It is now evident that Valley HATES both The Karate Kid and Rad. [Smile]

Posted by Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :

well...for the guys I'll go with Ren McCormack.

But for the ladies I'm gonna have to branch out on my own and select Christian Hollings (Lori Loughlin) from RAD. I'm pretty sure this follows the criteria since the BMX freestyle scene everyone knows and loves takes place at a school dance.

Sorry I can't upload a pic, but I'm also having problems with my computer and I can't seem to copy/paste pics on my touchphone.

If my pick for Christian is not acceptable for some reason, my next choice is Cindy Mancini.

Posted by Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :

...umm...well...nevermind about my comment about the pics. Looks like John beat me to the punch and posted em for me before I could post my comment...hehe..thanks man [Cool]

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

I'm glad everyone is having fun with the thread and the write-in vote. Some incredible choices by everyone.

I mainly made the selections with from movies with true prom scenes or mentioning of the prom. But decided to open it up to school dances knowing everyone would have more fun with it.

So keep them coming and if anyone wants to change your vote after reading other choices .. let's keep the discussion going.

Btw, where's Secret Admirer to select two characters from "Weird Science"? [Wink]

Devo.. Better Off Dead?

Great post Valley.

For a girl I pick Christian Griffith....that's Lori Loughlin's head on Joyce Hyser's body!! No explanation needed....

For a guy...Rick Morehouse....this dude is unassuming and laid back, a bit ackward....what girl wouldn't want to dance with this fine fellow?! If I have to pick a real girl....I'll go with Christian Hollings....Lori is the cutest girl in the world! Her and Rick's kids would be very popular and good looking.....

I'm suprised none of the ladies picked Chung Lee, the obvious shoe in

This thread rocks!!

As much as I'm an Ace of Spades fan, still can't go with PIP.

My vote goes with Julie from Valley Girl & Rick from Just One of the guys.

Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :

My votes go to....

 - Rick Moorehouse "Just one of the Guys"

 - Lynn Stone from "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

Does the debutante ball count as a dance??

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

"Girl Just Wanna Have Fun." Erggggggggghhhhhhh.
I would rather choke on my own vomit than watch this again [Razz]

I am sure the ladies forgot about this one. He is definitely the pick of the crop. Ha Ha. Love your pick. Classic.

Bernie.. stop making promise some people might want you to keep. [Big Grin]

I'm a fan of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" .. Helen Hunt is great in it. The tunes are awesome!

Well ok. Point taken [Roll Eyes]

LOL, I love this place [Smile]

oh muffy, i love your reckless choice! and you just reminded me that i haven't seen that movie in so long, i have to watch it soon!. [Wink]

i know i haven't responded, i was all set to add in my own characters when i re-read the 'rules.' haha.. it has to be a movie with a school dance scene.. i thought it said a school or dance scene. because i was totally going to either pick:

Robert Rusler from Shag: The Movie
 -

or Donovan Leitch from The In Crowd!
 -

so, i'm still deciding...

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Ronnie.. what rules? Thanks for actually reading them!

You know how much I enjoy "The In Crowd".. Del is such a great choice.. snazzy dresser with wicked dance moves.

all the more reason to choose him as a prom date! plus, he's soft spoken. [Smile]

so i would pick del and julie, for sure. [Smile]

Ren...I cant even pick a girl...I am still dreaming of Ren!!

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

too right, EJ! [Smile]

ren, and no one else...yup haha.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Uh.. Ronnie.. I noticed that you selected Del above?

Or was that just for Julie Richman, so you could sneak off with Ren yourself?

Btw, Hi EJ.. when did you get here? [Big Grin]

Rick Morehouse is currently searching for his inner Bruno X to grab a couple of Zombie Makers and challenge these guys to a dance off!

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

My vote would have been for Rick Morehouse if I hadn't picked Johnny [Smile] but I must be the only one that admired Ren but never put him in the sexy handsome prom date category? Lori Singer wasn't that good looking to me either?

Now Valley? You said pick a boy and a girl.....was I a weirdo picking both? is it like who would be King and Queen? or who would we take? hahaha I want specifics?

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Muffy.. what is being King and Queen all about?
Is it about who wears the nicest clothes? I think not.. Is it about who is dating the captain of the football team? Or who's seeing the head cheerleader? I don't think so.. Is it a popularity contest? I doubt it..

Ronnie i'm glad you agree with my Reckless choice! of course you love that movie [Smile]

so going with Valley's "movie must have a high school dance on the premise........Which I think is necessary [Smile]

Lanie
"I can hear you say....never turn away"
I love that she stands up for herself at the dance...."it was what you wanted...you don't give a $hit about me....well I do...and I want out"

Go Lanie!!
 -

Johnny
A black carnation...and one of the best dance sequences....love that he changes the record and dances like crazy!! "I might like you better if we slept together"

Watts from 'Some Kind of Wonderful'

 -

Sloane from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'

Josie from 'Career Opportunities'

 -

Sarah from 'Paradise'

I am not sure if all these movies had a dance in them, but hey I like the pics anyway.

Posted by Fightertown (Member # 7418) on :

4 out of 5 had a dancing scene but none took place at a school except for 'Real Genius'.

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Some hot chicks though. If only I could get all five of them to go out with me at the same time, and obviously be caught in a time warp to take me back 20 years.

I think Jane Mitchell would be the ultimate prom date:

Posted by Devolution (Member # 1731) on :

Devolution here,

Josie is one of my all time favorites and as people will tell you around here Career Opportunities is amongst my all time favorites 90's or not. I've quoted it for a long time.

Jennifer Connelly is still smokin'.

I did receive a couple of PMs with votes as well.. which is cool too.

If you guys don't vote for Jane Mitchell, (I can't help but throw in a 70's quote from The Warriors here) "You're Crazy."
