Devolution here,

What makes a movie? What draws you in? A great beginning! As a matter of fact, a bad beginning can make you want to turn it off, or worse make you despise an otherwise great flick. So for this topic, it's great beginnings!

One of my choices... Beverly Hills Cop. Neutron Dance and the truck chase makes you want to watch the rest of the movie.

Another great beginning, oddly, the beginning of Friday the 13th Parts 1 and 2. Nothing says "What the hell is this about?" like people that die in the beginning of a movie.

Thoughts?

Fast Times At Ridgemont High - they show you The Sherman Oaks Galleria while introducing you to all the characters.

My Dad and my brother are massive bond fans. I really don't like bond that much, but I always liked the start of the bond movies.

A View To a Kill - 1985 starts really well with the skiing.

Fast Times, yeah classic.

I always loved the start of The Breakfast Club.

Pyro. I love the opening of Lean on Me.
Welcome to The Jungle is so raw.

License to Drive is an awesome opener. That whole Nightmare on Elm street feel. I love that movie so much.

Streets Of Fire has a great opening scene - the neon wipe-overs from scene to scene, the build-up and concert, the buzz, the music, and the arrival of the Bombers......

Also, I love the start to Clue, with the music over Waddington's drive up to the creepy house.....

I am gonna check out Streets of Fire as it is a Walter Hill film and I love The Warriors, which has a great start to it too, but misses out on the eighties by a year.

Will have to check out Clue also. Have not seen either.

I always loved the opening sequence to Back to School, especially because as the pictures scroll through you see a pic of Rodney from Caddyshack.

I love the opening to Short Circuit. It's so hard core, it gets you amped up for the movie. The rest of the movie doesn't really follow with quite that level of seriousness, but it doesn't disappoint, even coming from that beginning!

Ghostbusters was the first thing that came to my mind when I read this thread. It was so quiet and eerie it really drew your attention inward.

Between the Times when the Oceans drank Atlantis, and the Rise of the sons of Ares.

There was an age undreamed of, and onto this Conan destined to where the jeweled crown of Aqualonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga.

Let me tell you of the days, of high adventure!

How about Field of Dreams. Simple, slightly creepy, mysterious. It grabs you right away.

I agree with the others on Goonies, love that.

I also enjoy Wallstreet. You can feel the energy right away. It sets the tone for the whole movie.

another one worth mentioning

The Stepfather (1987)

Hands down one of the creepiest and most awesomely memorable openings of any 80's horror movie for me.

not sure what my favourite begining to a film is but william lustigs 1983 classic vigilante had a kick *** intro, the soundtrack playing over the opening credits really gets me pumped up,as did lustigs 1989 judd nelson thriller relentless which has nelson pacing the floor talking to himself then fades away into another kick *** tune playing over the opening credits.

Didn't we do this once before...?

Anyweays, for me the best opening to a movie ever had to be the beginning of

"The Way of The Gun"

Sarah Silverman curses for a good few minutes before getting punched in the nose (?accidentally)

Absolutley fantastic

Shut that NOMS' mouth [Cool]
