Since I started posting on this board, I've seen lots of 80's movies that were never on my radar before and they have become new favorites of mine. Movies like Night of the Comet and The Stepfather are two examples. But with these new favorites, I have found that a lot of my old "tried and true" 80's movies just don't cut it anymore. It's not that these movies seem "bad" to me now or anything. I think I have just seen them waaay too many times and they've just gotten boring and stale to me. Does anyone have movies they used to love and watched many times but have become un-watchable for you?

Here is a couple of mine...

I told you not to sugar coat it.........and this is what you feed me??? "stale" "doesn't cut it" and omg "boring!" Veronica Louise Sawyer!

that really doesn't happen to me at all.......The Stepfather is good....medicore........now Nice Girls Don't Explode that's a whole 'nother story [Smile]

The only movie now deemed unwatchable for me is Jewel of the Nile..........some how I used to love it as a kid and when I watched it a few months ago..........I was like what the h e double hockey sticks?

It's not that I don't like those movies, I do! I have just watched them so many times and I've kinda ruined them for myself...It's like when you really like a song but the radio overplays it and makes you hate it.

"Morgan Stewart's Coming Home"--not that it's so terrible; it's not great, but not awful--because there was a time back in the day when you'd flip the channel to Cinemax or some of the other pay-TV (Now there's a dead term of art!) services, and no matter what time of the day it was, it seemed that they'd all be running it.

I get where your coming from Veronica....but you still said Goonies and "doesn't cut it" in the same paragraph......i'm at a loss hahaha

Looks like you're touching a nerve with that goonies comment here VS, but you've seen it a bunch of times, so I'm sure you still love it! ;-)

I just bought that movie 'Electric Dreams', and had very high expectations (maybe this was the problem)... anyway it wasn't great, the majority of the film takes place in the apartment, I really wanted to see 'the 80s' world outside... any thoughts?

Beach scenes / Alcatraz scenes were good, and you gotta love that 80's style computer! But all in all it was hard to watch..

I know exactly what you mean!! Matter of fact, The Breakfast Club comes to mind for me.

The John Hughes stuff never gets old for me, but I will admit that I will never watch "The Goonies" again--unless someone on here takes me hostage and forces me to watch it upon pain of death.

She said it! We all heard her! LET'S LYNCH HER!!!!

Sorry Ronnie... got caught up in the mob mentality... very intoxicating.

Seriously, I know exactly what you mean: 'Tron', 'Dune' and even... 'Explorers' and 'Star Wars'. They occupied a cathedral sized space in my psyche growing up, but since I can recite the movies from memory the urge to watch them has dropped massively. That's why I love commentaries; they offer a new way to view a movie you love. Having said that, if I ever get sick of a movie I just avoid it until the urge to see it comes back again, even if it takes years.

Initial thoughts... you're wrong. Good enough?

Kidding. The movie wasn't created to be a nostalgia buzz for people 20 years down the line, so there's no reason it should try and show you the world outside. The point of the story is obsession, insularity and learning to open up, so limited locations are useful. Didn't hurt The Breakfast Club. I think maybe you went into it expecting the wrong things. It's highly regarded by the the 80's crowd not because it shows 80's, but because it is 80's; the music, the technology, the opening and closing scenes... it is 1984. Give it some time and try and watch it again as a straight romance.

What was the address? Me and Muff (Muff and I) will pay you a little visit...

Haha, I like this comment! it's true, it's hard to forget to look out for '80s cues, and remember you're watching a story! nice perspective, well it's in the collection now, and will definitely give it a few more views... wearing my romantic hat of course ! ...for Virginia Madsen!!
