Post pictures from 80s movies so others can guess what it's from. Be sure to use an image hosting service for your photo so people can't right-click on the image to get the title of the movie from the file name [Smile]

I'm pretty sure that is Andrew McCarthy pretending to hang himself to prank Rob Lowe in the movie "Class". What has always been notable for me about "Class" is the scene stealing performance of an extremely young John Cusack.

Valley, have you (or anybody else, for that matter) noticed that Andrew McCarthy possesses a strong resemblance to Jason Lively in that picture?

Thank you! I couldn't get 'Viveka Davis' out of my head and I was going crazy trying to remember the girls name and couldn't wait anymore! Dedee Pfeiffer!!! My brain kept saying 'Pretty Woman' because she was a prostitute in 'Into the Night'!!!

Ah... sweet relief! Thanks Muff!

The god awful Masters Of The Universe! I was a huge fan of the cartoon and toys as a kid. Needless to say, that when this movie came out, I felt like someone (those someones being Golan & Globus) had kicked me in my baby nuts!

Here's a short review/rant I once wrote...

Masters of the Universe was a stable for most kid in the 80’s. There were cartoons, toys, comic books, lunch boxes, bed sheets, you name it. So of course the next logical step would be a live action movie. Well, at least for the guys at Cannon Films. I mean, it’s so simple. You already have a whole universe, all the characters and creatures, cool weapons and vehicles, and a basic premise to go on. All you have to do, is recreate that with real actors, some cool sets and special effects, and make it recognizable to fans of the franchise… simple, right? Well, not for the guys at Cannon. No, instead let’s set it on earth….. what… earth? It’s not Masters of the Earth, it’s Masters of the Universe, you morons… strike one. Then let’s ignore most of the cool characters from the cartoon and Mattel toy line, that all the kids love. And put in some lame replacements, that looks like rejects from Mad Max. Excuse me… where is Battlecat? Where is Ram Man, Trap Jaw, Tri-Klops? Ok, strike two. Now instead of the whole ‘fantasy’ vibe of the He-Man universe, let’s do it as Sci-Fi… with spaceships, black stormtroopers, laserguns and all that stuff. You gotta be kidding me! Ok, strike three… yooouuur out! Screw it, from now on, im just gonna rant. The fight choreography is bad, the effects are bad, the story is bad, the acting is bad, the dialogue is bad, the directing is bad, the camerawork is bad… by the power of crapskull… this movie is just bad. Cannon totally dropped the ball on this one. If they would have just stayed true to the source material, this could have been a cheesy 80’s action classic, at best. Alas, that was not to be. Don’t waste your time.

Rant over.... on with the game!

Jay Lee, I liked some parts of MotU. It's worth pointing out that Cannon were in deep financial difficulties at the time and were slashing budgets left, right and center. Come on... Frank Langella was great as Skeletor, no? He was clearly having a blast!

I've made up a cheat sheet. Feel free to print it out and keep it in your wallet.

*Shelley Long Cheat Sheet*

Troop Beverly Hills (1989)
Hello Again (1987)
Outrageous Fortune (1987)
The Money Pit (1986)
Welcome to the Parade (1986)
Irreconcilable Differences (1984)
Losin' It (1983)
Night Shift (1982)
A Small Circle of Friends (1980)

Don't Tell Her It's Me (1990) - even though it's 90s, Muffy adores this movie and may attempt to post it. She's tricky like that.

Well, this movie has become a cult classic despite being hard to find, so i assumed you guys would know it. Especially since I haven't even heard of some of the movies on this thread.

This 1983 classic is a hilarious blend of Star Wars and Conan, and ranks up there with "Zero Boys" in my list of favorite 80's B-movies.

Not an 80's movie. This is actually a pic from Rocky Balboa (2006). You can see the name of the restaurant on the window is "Adrian's".

Ditto that....as a kid, I'm sure I've seen this movie 20 times....literaly. We had one of the early movie stations (First Choice I think they called it) and they were famous for re-playing movies over and over....seeing The Toy, Rocky 3, and Without A Trace twenty times each...well....one of the main reasons Dad ditched the channel back then....

At first i thought it might be perfect from 1985 but then i thought i don't recollect the actress being in it,then i noticed a bit of a look of horror on her face and I thought it can't be perfect unless it was the look of horror of seeing john travolta in a pair of shorts.

So i reckon it's got to be Aerobicide.

Damn, you're good ! [Big Grin]

It could just as easily had been from The Majorettes or Death Spa, but Aerobicide is indeed the right answer !

Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :

Death spa,not seen that johnny but I know it had a blu ray release sometime last year(any good ?),I've seen the majorettes a while back on vhs.

I've never seen Aerobicide but knew of the movie well, I've read quite a few reviews for it over the years and was tempted at one time by a purchase, not sure what stopped me,I think I remember the UK dvd not being of the highest quality and I'm sure it was slightly cut.

Posted by Johnny Roarke is reckless (Member # 9826) on :

Yeah, i like Death Spa.. well, i mean : It is what it is.. but i think it's quite amusing.
Last year's combopack release is very good. (similar to the Prom Night blu-ray from Synapse i'd say)
It has that soft hazy appearance, but it looks astonishing on the blu-ray. They also did a very good featurette.

I also have that Aerobicide UK dvd you mentioned.. and yeah, it's pretty crappy..
but then again, so is the movie ! [Big Grin]

am I the only one that really like Meryl Streep

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Meryl Streep is brilliant! In Evil Angels she knocks her role out of the park. She absolutely nails the Australian accent. One of the best performances I have seen. She is very effortless in her delivery.

You guys make me jealous. I had never heard of Joysticks until it showed up on the Rewind. I have wanted to see it ever since. Last time I looked it was a little pricey though. I hope to find it some day at a thrift store for a buck.

Last scene from Body Heat. That would be Kathleen Turner.

Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :

Indeed, Sir!

Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :

That's one of my favorite 80s films. I never tire of watching it. Great writing, great acting, great atmosphere, and that John Barry soundtrack is fantastic, one of the best.

Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :

Never seen Body Heat (or as far as I can remember I haven't) it's one I need to check out, great cast what with Kathleen Turner,William Hurt and the late great Richard Crenna, also see it's got Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke.

Sounds pretty great to me!

Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :

Mickey Rourke plays an arsonist. It was his first big movie. He has one scene with one speech to William Hurt about what happens when you set out to commit "the perfect crime," and he nails it. Absolute perfection.

Ted Danson plays a tap-dancing prosecutor, J.A. Preston is excellent as a detective, Richard Crenna is terrific as a scumbag businessman, William Hurt is William Hurt (which for this part is perfect), and Kathleen Turner is even hotter than the temperature outside. It's a masterpiece.
