Hello fellow rewinders!! It is Jessie the Sunflower Goddess and I am back!!! It has been awhile since I have visited one of my favorite true and trusted sites but I am ready to check things out and see what I have been missing. In the past I used to do a movie of the day topic. I received a note from Valley that he had missed those topics so I have decided to start them up again. In looking over the site I see that one of his topics "Top 3 80's Flicks NOT available on DVD", summed up in my own words, has been revived. In honor of this I have decided to make my first movie of the week: MODERN GIRLS!!!

Released in the US in 1986 this ever true 80s classic starred many of our favorites of the decade. Virginia Madsen, Clayton Rohner, Cynthia Gibb, and Daphne Zuniga star in this fresh and "modern" comedy about a night on the town with friends and all of the funny mishaps that can happen. It is full of 80s fashion and loaded with cheese, which as many of you know, is a must for any 80s flick.

One of my favorite scenes is at the beginning when the girls are getting ready. I love the clothes! They are amazing. What are some of your fondest memories of this tried and true classic?

Ok I know I am going to get flack for this.......I don't love this movie. The one thing it had going for me was all the great stars but other wise I can't see how you guys love it so much? The story dragged a little for me? it didn't for anybody else?

First off, welcome back Jessie!

There's a handful of 80's movies That I love that aren't the greatest in plots or action, but just have that good dose of 80'sness and this is one of them. This movie screams so much of 80's LA which I never experienced in freezing Canada, and the stars in it like Cynthia Gibb, Daphne Zuniga, Roehner, and Virgina Madsen were all each good together and played in other personal favorite 80's movies. I remember in high school we were all trying to find out what the movie was playing in the video for Depeche Mode's But Not Tonight which instantly made me seek out the film.

Just the mention of there being a Depeche Mode song in this movie makes me want to watch it!

Sounds like you need to set your alarm clock for 3:10am on Saturday morning to correspond with the MGMHD broadcast and make it happen! Btw, please check your local listings for timezone variations....

Who is this person that stole The Muffster log-in information. Security please escort this imposter off The Rewind!

Movie watching is such a subjective thing...

I have a copy of this movie but have yet to watch it...looks like I should, considering all the buzz. * Tonight might be the night...my wife works until 11 PM...I'm off...little man in bed for 8 PM...popcorn and Pepsi...done...as I wrote this note, I convinced myself...tonight it is!

Kevdugp..."But Not Tonight"! ha

Hopefully, you'll understand that after watching it.

Jessie..you would pick an awesome 80's flick to start your "Movie of the Week"....

I decided to incorporate my old threads thoughts here again:

 -

I'm on my way to Club VooDoo in an effort to help track down the infamous Bruno X!

"Modern Girls" totally captures the 80's club scene and it has a stellar cast with Clayton Rohner, Daphne Zuniga, Virginia Madsen, and Cynthia Gibb.

The soundtrack is loaded with awesome tunes. My fav tune from the movie has always been "Passion" by Lions and Ghosts.

 -

I got the opportunity to ask Virginia Madsen recently if she swiped the lips phone and that incredible pic from CeCe's room. She said 'nope, but she loved that phone!'.

Sal Says: "Safety first!"

It's playing on MGMHD at 1am on Friday, February 19. I don't know if I can wait that long though, might just have to watch it this weekend at the crack of dawn!

I do love this movie so [Smile]

Sadly I never saw it in the 80's.. such a great vibe, excellent soundtrack, totally fun to just chill and watch.

Enjoy Veronica Sawyer, you are in for a treat!

I like this flick for various reasons. The cast for one! Rohner was awesome in all his 80's roles. Can't go wrong with all 3 beauties either. You all know what a Madsen fan I am! I liked Zuniga in a bunch of her roles too. Haven't seen a ton of films with Gibb, but she is good in this and GREAT in Youngblood! The soundtrack music is impressive too. I discovered TKA because of this flick....love that tune!

I was lucky to come across a nice bootleg copy of this on dvd with full cover artwork and disk artwork. Great find until an official release is made. [Wink]

Watched this last night for the first time. A great 80's feel, Ms Zuninga, Madson, and Gibb...can't go wrong. Great music as well. I'm pretty sure this is one my wife would like, so I'll likely watch with her soon.

Great picture on the copy I have, but no cover art. My wife is a graphic designer, so she'll be able to remedy that. I love seeing 80's movies I've not previously seen...and even better when I actually like them.

OH I am so excited to see if Kev and Veronica have seen it and what they think. I am jealous that you are going to get to experience it for the first time, since many of our first times were so long ago. I hope that you enjoy! Thanks for all of the buzz on this topic. I may have to change this one to a daily one??

Kevdugp73...definitely watch it again with your wife. I should have mentioned this before and I don't know why...

But "Modern Girls" is actually better on the second viewing with possibly a couple of 'Zombie Makers'!

Glad you enjoyed it after all the hype we've been giving it.

~ MGMHD - Saturday morning 1/9 at 4:15am EST!

Finally got to watch this way early this morning...Pretty much loved it and kicked myself for not discovering it a long time ago. The whole movie was like eye candy. I think I liked Clayton Rohner better in this than "April Fool's Day" and "Just One of the Guys." Can't wait to see it again!

It's hard to say which Cindy is more attractive here. Beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing.

Earl...don't let the title keep you from checking out "Modern Girls". If you enjoy a fun flick filled with incredible 80's tunes, fashion, and scenery..this movie delivers.

I mean even Muffster is thinking about tracking it down for another viewing because so many of us enjoy it.

Earl .. Do you have MGMHD? The best place to find it is there and it is on several times the next couple of months.

Valley I don't have to track it down I actually own it.........I still haven't given it another viewing I will I promise!

I have not seen this movie either. Question, is it a straight chick flick or good for both sexes?

Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :

A few guys on here like it a lot, so I don't think it's stricly a chick flick at all.
