Never saw this...heard some people talking about it in another thread. Who likes it? Should I hunt down a copy? What's it about?

Ohhhhh man. This movie really cracked me up in the 80s. It's a "guy" movie but I think you'll find it funny. It's Ralph Macchio's first movie. It's basically a silly movie about young guys at a military academy that have to deal with a sadistic leader (like a drill seargent)and, all of the crap that goes along with the academy. There are some funny lines...

Here's the write-up from imdb:

This puber-comedy is a kind of mixture between 'Animal House' and 'Police Academy'. Four boys are sent, for different reasons, to a the Sheldon R. Wienberg military academy. The life of dicipline asks a lot of the four geeks. Of course these boys know how to make a party out of the hard times. Will they be 'real men' after one year?

Before he waxed on (and off) as the Karate Kid, a young (Ralph Macchio) and other teens of every stripe suffer through the indignities heaped on them by the Major and do their best with the sexual, ethnic, and racial stereotypes that the script gives them to handle. Appeared in this uproarious adolescent comedy about a group of mischievous military school misfits forced to suffer under a sadistic Major (Ron Leibman). Directed by the independent-minded Robert Downey Sr., the film features (Barbara Bach) as a gun-toting armaments specialist and (Tom Poston) as an instructor who loves bed checks. The only Mag Magazine motion picture attempt...

I would try it... [Smile]

One of funniest movies to come out of the 80s too bad the 90s was such a lame decade for comedy.

Devolution here,

Just watched this on netflix. Good movie, great soundtrack, not amazing the first time watching it but I'm sure it is better after multiple viewings.

We are DEVO

I'm a huge Ralph Macchio fan and think the soundtrack to "Up The Academy" is 80's stellar.. but let's face it.. I'm an "Up The Creek" kind of guy.

I will admit that Stacey Nelkin (who Halloween III fans will remember) that played Candy was striking in this movie and it is intriguing that the character of Tracy in the film "Manhattan" was supposedly inspired by her in real life.

I'll stick with "Up The Creek" though..

i absolutely love this movie. i remember this being macchio's first movie because i believe he was on "eight is enough" before this and that's where i recognized him. i remember reading about him in some magazine when this movie came out.

"SAY IT AGAIN!"

I was skimming through movies to add in my queue in Netflix and I saw this one.. I've heard of it over the years through this site, but other than that, I know nothing. So I added it, and hope to see it soon? I'm in the mood for comedy lately!
