I saw a film as a child but do not know the name. Here's what I do remember...
There was a gremlin/dwarf/small nasty thing that turned a man on a sofa into a giant potato! I remember it because it freaked me out at the time! (I was young)
I know that's vague, sorry, but that's all I got!

TROLL...only I think he turned a guy into a mushroom.
By the way, I think theat aside from TROLL 2 teher is a TROLL 3 too (haven't seen that one though)
