I always had somewhat of a soft spot for this, even though I think they gave a little too much attention to Dudley Moore's character and not enough on the Man in Red. Still, it's got wonderful production design and visual effects; I always enjoy the composition of a Salkind film.

For the topic - yes. Sadly for the movie, no. If I want a christmas-themed movie, this one ranks pretty low down for me. John Lithgow is OK, but Moore doesn't do it for me, and the animatronic reindeer seem cheap....

I watch that on TV sometimes and I never make it to the end. Last year I watched it and fell asleep and missed the last ten minutes! One of these days I should just TAPE the last ten minutes!

I used to love this as a kid, and especially when Lithgow says "For free!" - I still quote that believe it or not.

I watched this movie about a year ago though after tracking it down and couldn't get through all of it. I was surprised considering how much I used to love it.

This is the funniest thread I have read here by far. Hilarious that there are other's out there that have the same problem I do with the movie...staying conscious. I must admit that I am a bit like Chris the CandyFanMan in that I think I have a soft spot for it, but I think that it is more related to the poster, book cover, trailer and of course the time of year that it is played which boosts a movie theme like no other, that is beyond Halloween, but I digress. When it comes to the movie itself, I don't dislike the movie by any means, but I can't remember seeing the last 30 minutes of this movie since I was a kid. Maybe it is the softness of the lens they used to shoot, I don't know. They always seem to play it on WGN out of Chicago at like two in the afternoon on a Sunday...best napping time ever in Northern Illinois on cold and blustery days!

Haha, man, I had the exact same issue with this movie this past Christmas. I tried to watch this movie for the first time ever this year with my wife. Now we are both huge Christmas movie fans.....I mean huge. We start talking about watching Christmas movies in Oct (but we hold off until Nov). So we tried this movie and I think my wife fell asleep in the first 20 min and I think I followed her about 10 min later. I just could not get in to this movie at all, and again, I'm a huge Christmas movie fan and I love the 80's. It just didn't work for me. I may try it again but it will take a lot for me to get through this I think.

I saw it once, when I was a kid. I also had the little books that went along with the movie. I didn't like it then and I still don't like it. I've tried to watch it the last two Christmases and I can't get past the first 45 minutes or so.

For a grown man that loves and owns over 100 Christmas movies (this goes no further than the Rewind)...I own this movie, but have never seen it....not even as a kid. I think I'll put this as top priority this year....
