I noticed this with Mannequin and Loverboy and even in Better off Dead there's cartoon stuff thrown in....you never see that any more either.

Can anyone think of any other movies that open with a cartoon???

Honey, I shrunk the kids, and Don't tell mom the babysitters dead ( yes I know it is a 90's movie but feels very 80's)that's it for now.

One Crazy Summer I think.

yeah, that's the first one that came to my mind

also, christmas vacation with chevy chase, that's an 80s movie, right? think it's from 1989.

one other thing I noticed: videos from soundtracs don't feature clips from the actual movies anymore. like don't you forget about me, or nothing's gonna stop us now, there's no stuff like that anymore

Oreb-Christmas Vacation has to be one of the best cartoon openings to a movie. I totally forgot it...but I think it is so cute.

I also notice cartoons were incorporated in to alot of music videos in the 80's...

I just saw the video for "Who will you run to" by Heart...and they had those little animals running through the video...they were off the album cover...does anyone know what they symbolized??

I just saw the video for "Don't Answer Me" by The Alan Parsons Project...and from what all I saw ,it was all animated.

All of the Pink Panther movies (from 60s through 80s) did this, so it's not really a new phenomena for 80s movies......

Troop Beverly Hills has a neat animated opening that was done by John Krisfalusi, who would later go on to create Ren & Stimpy. Playing over the opening is "Make it Big" by the Beach Boys, which is a very catchy song. (it also plays during the end credits, I believe)

Weekend at Bernie's 2 also has an animated opening...it was released in 1993, but it still has the 80s connection, being a sequel to an 80s movie and all...

Didn't "Duplex" with Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore open with a cartoon sequence? (I know it's a 00's flick).

Animals is the name of the Heart Album, before cds were out.

Ruthless People also had a cartoon opening - just saw it again a few days ago.

Whatever happened to Helen Slater? She sure was easy on the eyes.

She's been very busy working - whilst we remember stuff like Ruthless People, Supergirl and The Secret Of My Success, she's also done guest spots in Greys Anatomy, Law and Order, Boston Public, Will and Grace, Caroline In The City, Dream On, as well as a number of movies.

According to the IMDB, she stepped away from the business for a couple of years in the early 2000's, but is back working hard now.

Don't Tell Her It's Me(The Boyfriend School) had an animated opening IIRC.

Earth Girls Are Easy had a nifty cartoon opening, though it doesn't really have much to do with the movie other than some of them look like the characters and there are spaceships. None of the cartoon actually happens in the movie, but I guess it's just an intro. [Wink]

City Slickers had a cartoon opening (90's, yeah). Grease also had that great intro (yep, 70's).

Personally, I think cartoons are okay to open a movie, but it's not really that great. I always skip forward through the Earth Girls intro because it goes on a little long and nothing much happens.

Wasn't there someone who was famous for doing the Mannequin etc animated intro's?

Animated sequences in movies.....

I'm duty bound to mention Terry Gilliam and Monty Python here.
