Come on guys, if you had to pick one of the two trilogys which one would it be and why?

For me, BTTF. For a few very good reasons:

1. The Delorean. I know it's a heap of junk, but it's a gleaming, stylish piece of junk.

2. Christopher Lloyd - Wild Thing!

3. Lea Thompson

4. All 3 movies shot back to back - it's a big gamble when you don't know how it's going to take off.

5. Lea Thompson

6. The whole 'weedy little good guy beats muscle-head - and without intensive training regime' thing.

7. Did I mention Lea Thompson?

8. Better quotes. Like George McFly saying "Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn't take Lorraine out that he'd melt my brain."

I fully expect friends like Miyagi-Turbo to deliver far more counter reasons, so I'll stop there for fear of causing any disk space errors!

BTTF because it's more realistic than The Karate Kid.

BTTF is just way more funnier so I would have to pick that one. KK was always kind of sad to me so I never really watched it near like what I would the other ones. I never could stand to see Daniel beat up.

Let me change the direction of this post. The Kid beats out BTTF for these reasons.

1. Macchio and Morita
2. Score Music (Bill Conti and Zamfir)
3. Soundtrack Music (some really good stuff) (Survivor, Little River Band, Peter Cetera, Carly Simon, Moody Blues, Joe Eposito, Paul Rodgers, Broken Edge, Shandi, St. Regis, Money Talks, Jude Cole, Glenn Medeiros, New Edition, and more)
4. The Cobra Kai (Zabka, Thomas, McQueen, Garrison, O'Dell and later Kanan)
5. Elisabeth Shue
6. Sure the Delorean is nice, but I will take Miyagi's collection instead. Those classics are hard to pass up. Or here is one for you, you can have the Delorean from BTTF or Miyagi's house from the Karate Kid. I will take Miyagi's place.
7. "Get him a body bag", "I say, you do, no questions", "man who catch fly with chopsticks accomplish anything", "Sweep the leg", "No mercy", "Then you die as you have lived; a coward. You see your father, then you see me", "Mercy is for the weak. We do not train to be merciful here. A man face you, he is enemy.
Enemy deserve no mercy", "Wax on, Wax off". (The list just continues.)
8. The Crane (dont tell me you have not tried it once, even as a joke.)
9. Tomita(KK2) and Lively(KK3)
10. Classic endings that one can never forget.

Back to the Future easily craps all over the Karate Kid.

One thing lacking in your slightly biased appraising of TKK movies is creativity. Both movies have a by numbers narrative that is so predicitable that your thoughts travel in time and fill in the gaps of these oh so formulaic movies.

The reason the BTTF films edge for me is the aforementioned creativity that's inherent in many scenes in BTTF, anyone that can make the Delorean wreck of a car look appealing has got to be some kind of creative genius.

I'll make this as simple as I can:

BTTF - 3 good movies
KK - 2 good movies and a really poor 3rd one (and let's not even mention the Next KK)

ergo

3 > 2

Therefore BTTF wins!

Devolution here,

In terms of Quotability, the Karate Kid wins, but just the first and the second. It's almost a wash though, because in my opinion, Back to the Future was like nothing I had seen before. And since I saw both in the movies, Back to the Future was a bigger event for me. But I thought the Karate kid was great.

It's a lot to discuss, in olympic terms we would be hearing "The Power of Love" on the Podium. But The Karate Kid 1 and 2 would be second and third.

We are DEVO

My vote goes to BTTF as well. It's a slightly more interesting storyline, populated with somewhat more interesting characters.

I liked both but I guess I'll go for Back to the Future.

Back To The Future all the way! [Smile]

I just love seeing the way they represent totally different eras in that movie. I always get excited when I watch the movie.

I think the original Karate Kid was better than any of the bttf films. However Karate kid 2 and 3 are pap, 3 is particularly risible. The bttf films got better as they went on in my opinion, bttf 2 is my favourite despite all the crass product placement in it (yes Nike I'm pointing the finger at you !)

back to the future is way better and everytime it is on tv u stop what your doing just to watch it..can't say the same for karate kid unless your reallllly bored :S

Posted by FeiLong (Member # 4347) on :

simply BTTF!

there are far more reasons but KK has only one real good one, the first. whereas BTTF has three.

LOL!!! Oh yea!! I can see how travelling through time would rate as more realisitc that defeating a gang of bullies!! *shakes head*

and in defense of the KK saga - I believe that it also had 3 amazing films (as opposed to 2)

I adore BTTF - but if I was forced to choose, to me, there is no contest [Wink]
