Did anyone ever watch this? I think it was a made for tv movie, but I only ever saw it on video.

Cynthia Gibb gave a touching performance as the late Karen Carpenter, leading an excellent supporting cast including Louise Fletcher as Mrs Carpenter.

What I really liked about it is that it wasn't candy coated - it didn't make Karen out to be a saint, it showed the problems the family had - Mrs Carpenter was very undemonstrative towards her children; Richard's drug addiction, and obviously Karen's anorexia.

I'm listening to the Carpenters right now, and got to thinking again about the film. I haven't seen it on DVD in Australia yet. Does anyone know if it's available overseas at all?

PS I was trying to think of my favorite Carpenter's song, but it's impossible, so here's my Top 5 -

Superstar
This Masquerade
Rainy Days and Mondays
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft
Goodbye to love

I saw it. It depressed the hell out of me. That story is a sad one.

Thats the address where you can see the Karen Carpenter with Barbie dolls movie SUPERSTAR.
I guess it's considered "illegal art" because the MATTELL people were not pleased.

I saw it years ago. One scene that sticks out in my mind is when they were eating Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Her parents were trying to get her to eat but she wouldn't. I'm a closet Carpenters fan. Not many people know about it....

I remember seeing bits and pieces of this. I didn't realize that she was recovering from her anorexia when she actually died. Her voice was really amazing and the story of her life was so tragic. I think that when a story like this can be made public it can really help other families deal with their own tragedies.

Yeah Petty, I bet there are alot of closet Carpenters fans out there just like in the movie Tommy Boy when they bust out Superstar while driving down the road. Her voice was amazing and even her Christmas songs are easy on the ears.
How about another one of their songs, Top of the World. It is a very motivational song IMO.
