The results have been tabulated and the Top 15 All-Time Favorite 80's Movies of The Rewind Members are about to be revealed.
With any poll there are the movies that were on the bubble, but just didn't get those last few votes to make it on the list. So to keep you from guessing, those movies were:
Heathers (1989) -Smayt must have spiked the wrong voters coffee. Terminator(1984) -Why is Brandon777 knocking on my door asking for Valley Conner at a time like this? The Karate Kid (1984)-Say it ain't so Nick. Breakin'(1984) -Stop crying Isis, you can still do your TKO poppin' & lockin' at the park this weekend. Aliens (1986) -Look at this way Noms, if it had been a top 20 like Ronnie told me it should be...this movie would be in!

15. Return Of The Jedi (1983)
This is the feel good movie of the Star Wars 6 pack. The final chapter in the wondrous STAR WARS saga. Luke must save Han Solo from the clutches of the monstrous Jabba the Hut, and bring down the newly reconstructed--and even more powerful--Death Star. With Solo imprisoned, Luke accompanies his faithful droids R2D2 and C3PO in a rescue bid, with Princess Leia and Chewbacca also lending a hand. After they valiantly disentangle their friends from Jabba's clutches, Luke returns to his Jedi Knight training with Yoda. Meanwhile, the Rebel Troops amass in an attempt to see off the impending threat from Darth Vader and his new Death Star, with the operation being lead by Han Solo. But Luke must face Vader himself if he is to become a true Jedi Knight, and as he enters into a spirited battle with his light saber-wielding enemy, some surprising revelations await the young warrior.

14. St. Elmo's Fire (1985)
This movie is the compliation of all things Bratpack. Seven friends, fresh out of Georgetown University, cope with the fears and realities of adulthood while drinking at their favorite hangout, St. Elmo's. Alex and Leslie are career-minded and heading towards marriage. Virginal Wendy only has eyes for wild, would-be rocker Billy --whose wife and child don't prevent him from trying to relive his college days. Kevin ponders the meaning of life and secretly desires Leslie, while his roommate Kirbo pursues an elusive older woman. Jules rounds out the group with her massive debts and cocaine problem. Isn't growing up FUN!

13. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
This movie was the 2nd movie in the Star Wars trilogy that is actually the 5th movie after the release of the trilogy of prequels. I'm confused, but notice the movie that leaned more toward the dark side of The Rewind is higher on the poll. Interesting.
We find Luke Skywalker now a seasoned space warrior. Luke's Star Wars cohorts Han Solo and Princess Leia are likewise more experienced in the ways and means of battling the insidious Empire, as represented by the brooding Darth Vader. And, of course, "The Force," personified by the ghost of Luke's mentor Ben Kenobi, is with them all. Retreating from Vader's minions, Luke ends up, at first, on the Ice Planet Hoth and then the tropical Dagobah. Here he makes the acquaintance of the Yoda , whose all-encompassing wisdom comes in handy during the serial-like perils of the rest of the film. Before the film's open-ended climax, we are introduced to the apparently duplicitous Lando Calrissian and are let in on a secret that profoundly affects both Luke and his arch-enemy Vader. The ending is cinematic beauty!

12. Some Kind Of Wonderful (1987)
Paul start smiling, you're not the only person on The Rewind that loves this movie. The tomboyish Watts has always considered working-class Keith Nelson her best friend, but when he decides to ask out the popular Amanda Jones, she realizes that she feels something much deeper for him. Hardy Jenns, Amanda's jealous former boyfriend, further complicates matters and the rest is why Paul loves this movie over another movie you will soon see on this poll.

11. Can't Buy Me Love (1987)
Never underestimate the African Anteater Dance. Donald, I mean Ronald Miller is a high school nerd about to enter his senior year, who longs for acceptance as one of the "cool kids." His next-door neighbor Cindy Mancini is a cheerleader and one of the most popular girls in school, but she doesn't even know that Ronald exists. When she ruins an expensive outfit of her mother's, Ronald offers the $1,000 needed to replace it, if she will pretend to date him for one month. Although skeptical about Ronald's plan, Cindy agrees, and her "new boyfriend" turns out to be right about what he thinks dating Cindy will do for him -- he becomes accepted by the school's snobs because of his association with one of their own. At least, for a while. Babes say this movie is bad for my complexion.

10. Weird Science (1985)
Teenage geeks Gary and Wyatt are sick of being ignored by girls, abused by cool guys, and forced to spend their weekend nights watching nerdy old sci-fi movies. Left alone for the weekend, they use Wyatt's computer to create Lisa, a stunningly beautiful woman with a body that stops traffic, a heart of gold, and a genius IQ. The boys embark on an adventure with their creation, going to bars, driving Ferraris, throwing a killer party, and keeping Wyatt’s psychotic older brother Chet in check. But in the end, they learn that wearing cool clothes, hanging out with cool kids, and being popular might not solve all their problems. But it doesn't hurt trying!

9. The Lost Boys (1987)
Sleep All Day And Party All Night! A new family moves into a small California town, and the teenage son is immediately taken with a local girl, only to discover that she (and most of the town youth) are vampires! It's up to his younger brother to save the day in this stylish and offbeat horror film. The soundtrack is to die for.

8. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
The perfect day of High School! 17-year-old Ferris Bueller pretends to be sick in order to get a day off school. His parents decide to let him stay home provided he remains in bed, but Ferris has other ideas. He talks his best friend Cameron Frye into taking his father's Ferrari for a spin around town & he also uses foul means to successfully pull his girlfriend out of school. The three of them spends their "day off" running wild through the streets of Chicago. Hot on Ferris' trail is the high school principal Ed Rooney, who is not about to let Ferris get away with his truancy.

7. Pretty In Pink (1986)
Several Rewinders including John Hughes thought they got the ending wrong in this movie, but it still ranks high on the list maybe for just that reason. Remember it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved before says Duckie.
Andie a good student develops a crush on Blane, the sensitive preppie. But Blane runs with a fast crowd of haughty rich kids, the kind of clique Andie and her new wavy best friend Duckie can't stand. Going against peer pressure and social expectations, they decides to date. But their big plans for the senior prom ultimately fall apart when Blane heeds to his preppie friends. Will Blane find the courage to claim what he really wants and give up the so-called friends he doesn't need? - Keep smiling Paul, if they didn't make Pretty In Pink with this ending, your favorite movie might not be the movie it is today.

6. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
Hey Bud Let's Party! Fast Times At Ridgemont High is simply a modern cult classic. First-time screenwriter Cameron Crowe went undercover as a high school student and came back with the straight dope on sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, while capturing some of the most memorable screen characters ever. They're all here, from Stacy and Linda's sexual misadventures, to go-getter Brad's quick career in the world of fast food to the unforgettable Jeff Spicoli as the ultimate surfer dude. With all this talent behind it, no wonder "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" is a honest, fresh and funny look at high school life in the 80's.

5. Back To The Future (1985)
It is the story of a Marty McFly who uses a time-traveling DeLorean invented by a wacky scientist Doc Brown, and is accidentally sent back in time to the 1950s. But the real problems start after he inadvertently disrupts the first meeting between his future parents--and his mom ends up falling for him instead. Eliciting help from the inventor of the time-machine (who is now thirty years younger), Marty must untangle the mess he's created, or he will never be born. If he can't influence them to fall in love, he might never exist! And if he somehow manages to succeed, he must then find a way to get "Back To The Future." I would love to time travel back to the 80's, how about you?

4. Valley Girl (1983)
No. 4 on The Rewind, but No. 1 in my heart! Awesome movie with a great soundtrack.
Julie's Cool, Randy's Hot. She's from the Valley, he's like...so not!
Julie is, like, so over her preppy boyfriend Tommy, she dumps him on the escalator at the Galleria. Not Too Cool Julie, like I won't get bummed out. And when she meets punker Randy, her eyes practically bug out because she thinks he's sexy even though he makes her friends gag! But even if Randy's ready to stop the world and melt with her, can Julie risk losing her friends and her super-popularity at school just to be with him? I’m so sure! Like Totally!

3. The Breakfast Club (1985)
Trapped in a day-long Saturday detention in a prison-like school library are Claire, the princess; Andrew, the jock; John, the criminal; Brian, the brain; and Allison, the basket case. These five strangers begin the day with nothing in common, each bound to his/her place in the high school caste system. Yet the students bond together when faced with the villainous principal, and they realize that they have more in common than they may think, including a contempt for adult society. "When you grow up, your heart dies," Allison proclaims in one of the film's many scenes of soul-searching. This movie represents something inside us all. Don't you forget about me.

2. Sixteen Candles (1984)
Ooh. Sexy Girlfriend. The donger need food! Samantha Baker is a high school teenager who has a birthday. Unfortunately for her, her sister's wedding is the day after her birthday. Everyone (including her grandparents) forgets all about her birthday. Ted, is a geek who really digs Sam. Sam doesn't dig Ted, but gives him her panties anyway. Sam loves Jake Ryan who just found out how she feels. Jake already has a girlfriend named Carolyn. She's kind of a witch and Jake's kind of sick of it. He kinda digs Sam, but Sam doesn't know yet. There's a dance and then a party at Jake's afterwards. Jake saves Ted's life and Ted talks the whole thing over with Jake. Jake asks Ted to take Carolyn, who is passed out, home in his dad's Rolls Royce. This excited Ted a lot even though she's missing a large chunk of her hair thanks to Tracy. Ted doesn't drive very well. No matter... that's not important. Jake goes looking for Sam and eventually finds her at the church after Sam's sister's wedding. Jake takes Sam back to his place and gives her a birthday cake and her panties back. What a guy! They kiss and cue "If You Were Here" by The Thompson Twins.
By the way... There's a weird chinese guy named after a duck's dork up in Mike's room. This movie gave #1 a run for the money, you will soon understand it couldn't compete with its fortune.

1. The Goonies (1985)
Goonies are good enuff. The Goonies follows a group of misfit kids as they search for buried treasure in a subterranean cavern. Here they cross the path of Mama Fratelli and her outlaw brood. Fortunately, the kids manage to befriend Fratelli's hideously deformed (but soft-hearted) son, who comes to their rescue. Goonies Never say Die....as you can see by it being the #1 Movie as voted by the Rewinders!

A few more interesting tidbits:
Movies voted #1 - 17 different movies
Valley Girl made #4 based solely on US voters and it was in the top 5 on twelve of those polls.
Pollers - 18 were from the US and 14 were non-US.
Movie on most polls - Goonies was on 20 polls, BTTF was on 16 polls
Year with the most Top 15 movies - 1985 with Five
US vote was pretty consistent, while the non-US vote was spread out among hundreds of movies. The main reason you are seeing the top movies you are is the diversity of the non-US vote, though Breakfast Club had more non-US votes than US votes.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing the entire list myself, if that can be done. Only Ferris and BTTF made it from my list, but it's better than a complete shutout. We should do something like this again from time to time like the AFI does, counting down our favorites from the decade.

WOW!! I am glad that 16 Candles made it right up there near the top. Can't go wrong with #1 though, Goonies is an excellent choice. Kind of sad that Fire with Fire didn't make it.

Great poll! I culled my picks from a list of 115 faves. Only two ended up making the Top 15 altho' ten from my longer list did.
It was way tough eliminating some of them. I very nearly put Lost Boys in my top 15 except that I had just discovered it this year so it didn't seem like an 80s movie.

Valley I love your work! Ignore any criticism. I am all for a democratic system and I think that if people are unhappy about the way that Valley's vote panned out then they should conduct their own poll. I think the summaries were great and I think that (let's be honest here) because most of us are between 25 & 40 (MOST of us) then the eighties movies that we watched were teen movies. If we were going to socially critique the academy award winners of the decade then that would be a different thing (it would be like applying Jung to Beverley Hills 90210 or Freud to the OC). The feeling that i got from Valley was: which were the movies that really meant something to you back then - which were the movies that you loved renting on video? Or were the movies that had at least one character that you idolised or (and now I REALLY am showing my age) was a movie that didn't have gratuitous violence or sex just to make it appealing to kids under the age of 18?

I don't think anyone was criticizing Valley, kat27. I think it's more like they really want to know what people think - which is why the differences between US and non-US voters is cool to know - and also that from 32 voters, given 15 movies each, we managed to name 208 different movies. That meant that each movie was mentioned less than 2.5 times on average, which reflects the wide range in tastes and preferences we have here. That's interesting to geeks like me..... Thanks for the kind words everyone. A poll is an opinion by a group, so it will never be exactly what an individual should think the results should be anyway.
I will say that every person that turned in a poll had at least ONE movie make it in the Top 15. There were 2 people that had EIGHT movies from their poll make into the Top 15 and 4 others that had SEVEN movies make it.
If you have specific questions on a particular movie, I'll do my best to answer it.

Rocksteady and others I'm not ignoring your question on all the movies, but naming 208 movies will take alot of time and there is a good chance I'll name some movies twice. Plus I don't have much time to work on it.
My biggest problem right now, is my website that stores my pictures keeps changing my URL address. I think the pictures are working right now, so if you missed them before, take a few minutes to check them out. Some of them are way cool.

Hey Ronnie, that was my original plan to expand it to favorite song in a movie or favorite dance scenes, but I'm just not sure it would work because the voting might be too spread out to really determine a winner, plus how many people will actually send a poll in where it takes so much thought. Movies was the easiest, the rest get harder, but it might be fun to try.
Paul did a multiple choice poll once like the Academy Awards which was cool, however it only lets you vote on the small list of choices. But that kind of thing would be way easier compared to 208 movies, so that might be the route to go. I'm open for suggestions.
Are enough people interested to do more of this kind of stuff?

Only 2 movies that were on my list made the top 15. Valley Girl and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Fire with Fire and April Fool's Day and Breakin were up there on my list.
I like polls too. I think that doing a music one would be hard, because of how many songs there really are in comparisson to movies, like Valley said. I bet ya everyone would have a totally different list.
How about favorite movie characters...or even favorite top 10 scary movies...(you know-different categories of movies)..that's my input...I thought Valley did a great job...I would have been completely Clueless on how to even begin decifering all of that...and he did it perfectly..and then some. Great write-ups from my wingman Val, no mention of ‘Scarface’ I see, good list overall though (I actually wrote mine out but forgot to send it). Good to see ‘Breakfast Club’, ‘Ferris’ and others all present and accounted for.‘The Goonies’ is just one of those movies that I’ve never really enjoyed for some reason, always thought ‘Monster Squad’ was ‘Goonies’ for people who didn’t like ‘The Goonies’.

As I was the only other poster to put pictures in this thread other than Valley, I think I can safely assume that this was another dig at me. Nice and subtle work there Lisa but I really don't think you should criticise anyone for putting pictures on the threads as you are the biggest culprit. At least I didn't put a million photos of me on unlike some other people I could mention...still I suppose when you have a constant need for praise, photos of yourself work just as well as boring holiday stories...

I NEED HELP!!!! I believe this is an 80's Movie.I really dont remember much about the movie but i will give it a shot asking the experts. The movie was based On an old man with a large paintbrush that was magic, he would paint a picture of a scary looking house and he could walk through the painting. One specific pat i remember is There were kids in the back of a Work VAN and they used white paint or sugar (not sure) to create a trail back to i believe his house but then street washing trucks camed an washed it away. I SOUND LIKE A MANIAC I KNOW i am so frustrated trying to find the movie title.

TresFoxy, your vote for "The Karate Kid" might have just been enough to landed it in the Top 15. But voting for The Karate Kid in every spot 1 to 15 on your poll would have disqualified you anyway. Btw, have you seen any other 80's movies?....and The Karate Kid Part II doesn't count!

Hmm. A few years ago, 16 Candles would've definitely been lower down the list. Valley Girl wouldn't even have been on it. Largely because most people 'discovered' them through the Rewind (especially true of Valley Girl). Both of those films seem to have been taken up by the retro ladies of the world, whether or not they were a part of their youth. It might be interesting to see the Male and Female ratio, and which way they voted. It might explain the exclusion of 'The Terminator' for something like 'Valley Girl'. Not that I personally prefer the Terminator.
Having said that, it might be even more interesting to see a 'Top 15 films you actually saw in the 80's' list. That would change a lot.

I wanted to vote for Jedi this time, but I couldn't justify two votes for SW movies. I also cut Hughes movies to give space for others.
No Lost Boys. What a shift! PiP ranks higher - rightly so. I think we Rewinders tend to choose one or t'other between PiP and SKoW. I refused to make that choice!
