Okay this topic centers around someone from the 80's that was in a lot of films, but some how there is one or two films that they were in that you just can't seem to remember.

For example, I was searching the homepage and saw that Space Camp's page was added. I went on there and had completely forgotten that Lea Thompson played that part. I think of her in Some Kind of Wonderful, Back to the Future films, and even in Howard the Duck. Why is it that some films with some of our favorites don't get remembered, or rather get forgotten?

Can you think of someone that you write about a lot and then don't refer to a particular movie that they were in?

How about some of these that aren't mentioned often:

John Cusack - Class
Tom Cruise - The Outsiders
Deborah Foreman - Real Genius
Patrick Dempsey - Heaven Help Us
Val Kilmer - Willow
Elisabeth Shue - Link
Phoebe Cates - Bright Lights, Big City
Michael J. Fox - Midnight Madness

Cool topic JLP..there are so many more, but I'll give others some posts.

Demi Moore had the much smaller role in "Blame it on Rio"...and now who can even recall the name of the 'lead actress?'

Fame, ain't it a bitch.

Michelle Johnson is her name. Don't think many guys have forgotten who she is.

I definately remember Phoebe in Gremlins, but I always forget Judge Reinhold was in that movie too, and that they did Fast Times together, they probably got really close, having had to do such "personal stuff" together.

Kristy Swanson in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

That is so funny ISIS I had forgotten to make the connection on Fast Times too. I just watched Gremlins today to and it doesn't make me think of them in Fast Times. He had a very small roll in Gremlins, he wasn't even it after the bar scene when he is criticizing Billy.

Kelly Preston in Space Camp...How did she go from being naked in Mischief and Secret Admirer to a kid's movie like Space Camp. It's impressive she got the role.

Oh yeah, here's another...Demi Moore in No Small Affair with Jon Cryer. You never hear about that one.

Chevy Chase and SCTV alumni John Candy, Dave Thomas and Joe Flaherty all appeared in 1985's "Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird". When their careers are discussed, you never hear about this movie.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

What about Geena Davis in Tootsie and Fletch. Smaller roles early on in her career.

What? Jim Belushi was in "Who Harry's Crumb?" Wow
I defintly forgot that part! For real! I always forget that Meg Ryan was in "Top Gun".

I always forget that Kevin Bacon was in the first Friday the 13th.

This has definitely been posted about before but I don't think Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, Shannon Doherty or Jonathon Silverman ever claim Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Most people associate Shannon with 90210 or Our House.
Yeah Isis, I totally forget about Kevin Bacon in Friday 13th as well.

Hilary Swank in "The Next Karate Kid". Talk about left field

John Cusack from the flashback seen in Stand By Me, where he's remembering his brother.
Also, although the character is well recognized, you'd be surprised how many people are unaware that Vern from Stand By Me was in fact Jerry O'Connell.

Devolution here,

Maybe it's knowing these random facts that didn't make me forget them, or maybe it's the fact that I own most of those movies. People that get lost in the shuffle. Wesley Snipes in Major League or he and Woody Harrelson in White Men Can't Jump or Wildcats. I like the person that said Seth Green in Can't buy me love. Good choice. Radio Days he was good in also. What about Donald Gibb (ogre)? He was a riot in Bloodsport. There are some quality roles that some of you picked.

I don't recall "White Men Can't Jump" or "The Last Karate Kid" being released in the 80s. Maybe I ought to read "Films Of The 80s" again. [Wink]

Just kidding, Anna and Devo. [Smile]

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Jlp937-Sunflower Goddess wonders:
quote:
Why is it that some films with some of our favorites don't get remembered, or rather get forgotten?
Maybe it's because the actor/actress is cast in a movie but only in a supporting role, and not the leading role. Or the performer decides to do a walk-on "cameo" role. You'd have to look really hard to find that person!

Or there are times that an actor/actress appears in a type of movie that he/she normally would not have done before. In other words, they are cast against type.

One good example is Bill Murray in "Tootsie", where Dustin Hoffman is the lead. But when people think of Murray, they usually don't mention that film.

Also, Murray was in a dramatic movie called "The Razor's Edge", which flopped. But when people talk about Murray's movies, it's usually his comedies!

Another easily-explained reason is that a certain movie was made very early in the performers' career, before they became famous in later roles. Example: Sean Connery made a bunch of forgettable light comedies and even a Disney musical ("Darby O'Gill & The Little People" in 1959) before he got to play James Bond! Watching those pre-Bond movies takes on a whole dimension!

"Buffy...", "Airheads", "Pulp Fiction" and "Darby O'Gill And The Little People"...Aaah, yes, what great 80s movies. [Wink]

Note: I'm only joking...That's all it is, and yes, jlp, I saw you mention the year of 1959 in your Sean Connery post.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Devolution here,

Who was Forest Whitaker in Vision Quest? Are you confusing him with Griff from Married with Children who was in Vision Quest? Or do I Really not remember Forrest Whitaker in it?

And I doubt people will remember Kevin Bacon racing Neal Page for his cab either.

Forest Whitaker played the wrestler Balldozer in Vision Quest. I hardly remembered seeing him in that nor did he had that much dialogue.
