I just sat down the other day and watched the whole thing for the first time since I was a kid!I'd bought the VHS months ago....bad me.
I so recalled the whole seeing it in the theatre. Plus the cartoon w/ Roger Rabbit at the begining. Do you guys remember how big the Roger Rabbit thing was then? Even doing the Roger Rabbit?? lol We all mastered it, don't deny it.
What a great Disney movie this is! Me being me.......couldn't get over how cool the sets were. I'm sure alot of it had to be built for the movie on a soundstage. No way did they use a green screen that much then? Do you think?
The giant lego they slept in? the huge Cherrios?
I just enjoyed how funny the whole movie is. How those silly parts and lines from the film stayed in my mind all these years, I don't know?

I remember watching this movie as a kid, as well as the sequel(s) and TV show. I haven't seen it in forever--It WAS the sequel to Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, right? I thought that one was really horrible, but I liked the shrinking ones.
Imagine how funny it'd be to have to ask for the props to be made. "Uh, yeah, we're gonna need a giant Lego."
EDIT: Huh. Guess the giant one was a sequel. I still thought it was horrible. I like the shrinking ones a lot better. The TV show was also quite good.

Muffy & Lupa, "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" was a fun family movie that most kids would really enjoy. And Lupa, you're right that the sequel was lame-o.
I mentioned this before, but the "Honey I Shrunk The Audience" 3-D show at Disney World was one of my favorite things. It was mind boggling 3-D and I highly suggest that studios look into something like that for the future. Makes you realize how cool a movie like "Back To The Future" could be in 3-D. Talk about blowing the subwoofer on that speaker Marty!

Hey, Valley, that's awesome! I wish I could go to Disneyland again. I've only been there twice, and it was when I was so little I don't remember it.
Now I want to see the movie again, heh heh. I'm sure it or one of the sequels will be on the Disney Channel again soon.

Another one of my favs that I often forget about. I do remember the Roger Rabbit toon at the first. I have the vhs and its on there. I watched the tv show too. I think one can still catch it on Disney sometimes.

I've seen the tv show too....the guy looked like Rick Moranis,the tv show was alright, but the sequel to the movie did suck.
I've never seen a 3D movie.....I've always wondered what it would be like? Does it really seem like things are jumping out at ya?
It was cool they did that with the cartoon before the show, because Classic live-action Disney movies always had a cartoon to start it out. They should do that now instead of the many commericals for soda we have to sit through.

I remember going to DisneyWorld back in the 80s and they had the BEE used in the movie. It was pretty big!

I stumbled across this three part making of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids! on YouTube.
A terrific example of everything a family film should be (back when Eisner was sane, he sure knew how to pick winners). Yes, in hindsight you really do appreciate the effort that went into building giant workable sets--which come across quite realistic--and better yet, they don't overpower the story itself, which is just the right blend of drama and humor for its target audience, and unlike today, while there's a message, it's not beaten over the audience's head ad nauseum, but done slowly, allowing us and the characters to absorb it gradually. And when was the last time a similar film actually bothered to put minors in any real danger, even if doing so would advance the plot quite well? Here the protagonists are almost killed repeatedly, and each time is not just believeable but genuinely thrilling. Can't family films return to something more like this?
And yes, my VHS copy does have Roger Rabbit's Tummy Trouble before the feature itself. The short's a complete laugh riot (among the best parts: Roger self-adminstering anasthetic after being mistakenly taken to surgery, the doctors completely dropping said opeartion for lunch, Roger riding the atom splitter into carelessly left around explosive hospital waste and being blown sky-high clean out of California). This and the subsequent followups (Roller Coaster Rabbit, Trail Mix-Up) were originally supposed to hold the audience over until a sequel to the film itself came out, but that never materialized in the end, although they're wonderful on their own.

LWC - i totally remember watching that Making Of when i was younger! i love how they showed clips of Captain EO in it, it was one of my favorite things to see at the Disney Park, i am so glad they brought it back!
HISTK is a great family movie. i love Rick Moranis and i remember seeing this movie at the theater when my 6th grade class teacher took us to to see it!.
Muffy, good call on the lego and cheerio but that cookie...!! haha
i wonder what happened to young Russ Thompson, the guy that played him who was also in Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael with Winona Ryder??
i too, remember seeing the Honey I Shrunk The Audience Universal 3D experience..they now have a Skrek one, which is cute as well.
and i hated Honey I Blew Up The Kid but i did enjoy Honey We Shrunk Ourselves a little.. with a young Mila Kunis.
