This is probably a risque topic for me, but I think alot of 80's celebrities had alot of sex appeal, and you know what I am talking about- [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] ..like Rick Springfield to me, was extremely sexy and Rob Lowe...wooo hooo...they were the kind of guys you hoped you ran across in the real world...I look at different men out there on t.v., and they have no "sex appeal" at all, they look like they'd slit your throat and leave you for dead, they aren't men you fantasize about snuggling up to on a cold winter's night in front of a fireplace in a cabin in the woods somewhere, they look like Jason from Friday the 13th-the guy you ending up in the cabin in the woods with...hiding under the bed waiting for him and his pitchfork to leave.
I haven't seen a guy on t.v. that is a big name actor, that I would ever think of...like I did about guys in the 70's and 80's. There doesn't seem to be any Teen "heart throbs" any more..you know the kind of guys you tore their picture out of the teen magazines and taped to your bedroom wall, or are there??
Is there anybody in the past 10 years you thought was quality material, to stick on your bedroom wall?

Yeah, I do agree on Paul Walker-that he is good looking...I only ever saw him in Joyride...but I haven't seen him in anything else lately, because I never watched the Fast and the Furious movies. I forgot about him though, because he could be so much more famous I think than he is, because he is the only guy that is good looking out there.

Like, I got my son Mint in the Box-Mego Starsky and Hutch action figures from the 70's for Xmas, I thought both David Soul and Paul Michael Glasier had a ton of sex appeal, they were such nice guys, and they were good looking, and they seemed so nice, just like Lee Majors in the Six Million Dollar Man, or Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy in the Hardy Boys, or Donny Osmond. They all had their own action figures too-even Grizzly Adams had one-and Nakoma-his Indian friend-my Aunt totally had a crush on him, and the Dukes of Hazzard-those guys had a ton of sex appeal, there is just nothing on tv like that any more, there's nobody worth immortalizing from a tv show on a doll, even The Fonz-had major sex appeal, and was a teen idol. I just see such a lack of that same stuff, it just doesn't exist anymore. There just doesn't seem to be good characters for men anymore. I liked Rex Smith in StreetHawk, I liked Bill Bixby in The Incredible Hulk-they weren't super sexy, but they still had a "quality" about them, that you don't see anymore in today's celebrities. I was watching episodes of Lucan last night-and I liked Kevin Brophy, he wasn't drop dead gorgeous-but there was something about him that made him really attractive-it was his "character", and you don't get that connection any more to anyone, because they don't make t.v. shows like that any more. It is a bummer.

Lindsay Lohan. To be 18 again. I also like Jessica Simpson to me she seems a lot like the girl next door type. But the one that does it the most for me is the lovely Kate Winslet. Drew Barrymore could eat crackers in my bed anytime too.

Girls are different....I think guys don't look at "sex appeal" the same way as what women do. For a guy they just check out their body, it doesn't even matter what their face looks like.

But, even so..there were alot of women from the 80's that to me were 10 times better looking than anyone out there now..Like- Olivia-Newton-John, Phoebe Cates, Christie Brinkley, Lynda Carter, Heather Thomas, Kelly Le Brock, Betsy Russell, the list of women in the 80's could go on and on, because women just looked better then too.
They didn't look as fake as what women today look. Women now are so phoney looking, and the attitudes of women now totally stink, they are so vicious, and envious, and jealous of each other.
Olivia-Newton-John and Lindsey Wagner-who I thought were beautiful, seemed like they were such nice people too, and you don't get the feel like that any more for women celebrities. Women like Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, and Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, I wouldn't want to spend 5 minutes talking to any one of those people.

Has anyone see the STAR magazine that is out right now, with all the celebrities with no make up on. Like Kristie Alley, Courtney Cox, Whitney Houston, Goldie Hawn...even young girls like Britney and Kelly Clarkson- were in it. I can't believe they left the house looking like that, knowing that they are photographed all the time.

My friend is a celebrity photographer, his pictures are amazing, he could be a multi millionaire on his picture collection, guys would be so envious of it, and I was talking to him about the Star magazine, cause I wondered if those pictures had been touched up to look worse, and he said no-those were real, those photographers were probably paid so much money.

He told me that he has meet Dolly Parton before, and she would be unrecognizable without make-up on, but she said she will never ever be photographed without make up, and nobody will ever see her out, because even if she goes to the store for a carton of milk, she puts on her entire face and never leaves home without full make up-she says that's why she doesn't work out, cause doing her make up is a full time job.

Britney Spears looked terrible, her face was all broke out, and her skin looked really bad, to me people should see that they are human too, and not just what you see on a poster that took all day, with make up artists and hair stylists, and professional photographers with special lighting-lighting-totally matters in pictures. Everyone takes bad pictures no matter what they look like, so celebrities are regular people too, and I think it has given all these people that are running off to the plastic surgeon the wrong idea, that you can't have a few wrinkles, or a few extra pounds, when those people all do too.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

i read somewhere that a lot of celebrities leave the house looking like trash and wearing the same clothes, all mismatched, is so that the annoying photographers will just get the same pictures of them looking terrible and wearing what they wore the day before, so that they won't be in their faces snapping as many shots when they go out.

not a bad strategy, cause i would probably do the same thing.

the guy that played jesus in the passion of the christ....jim cav.... something. he was sexy in the count of monte cristo!

Well, not all women celebritys are all fake, Julia Roberts, Nicol Kidman (or whatever her name is, btw my baby suster was named after her) they have talent, but others like Paris Hilton ect. don't have as much, well they defenetly have money (that they don't deserve as much as others like Mary and Kate) I have an Aunty who is a new hollywood celebrity, Lana Novac (just changed her last name) And she does look pretty in real life and she 'does' have talent, but she's not as big as all the 'plastics' you see in an everyday dolly magazine. She likes her life but she did had to work her *** off to get to where she is now. Lol and just for the record celebritys (looking at my aunty) are all skinny and watch what they eat!

Sorry, but that's a bit of an overly generalized statement. Yes it's true that men will never use sex to get what they want in the way that a woman might (because sex is what men want) but just about any man can appreciate a woman who looks good from the neck up.

The only time that the figure makes the first impression is when she's jogging......

another very generalised statement. There are some absolutely incredibly looking women out the today who I'd pick any time over the women in your list. Your modern day ladies are all trashy and overhyped in my opinion and are not my ideal woman by any stretch of the imagination. But here are some of the women I find incredibly sexy these days...

Heather Graham
Natalie Portman
Salma Hayek
Kirsten Dunst
Charlize Theron
Jessica Alba
Hilary S.w.a.n.k.
Kate Beckinsale
(i could go on but I think I've made my point)
all extremely sexy actresses in my opinion...

While I agree that some of the '80s ladies have held up well indeed, I whole-heartedly support you fellows in that many of today's 'real actresses' seem like down-to-earth people you could have a conversation with.

It's unfortunate that we get Paris, Britney, et al showed down our throat, but that's only in the mainstream celebrity 'fluff' press...you can get in-depth articles about real actresses like Kate Winslet and Charlize Theron if you don't do all your magazine shopping in the grocery store tabloid section.

I think some of those girls are pretty too...except for Kristen Dunst-ICK.... [Roll Eyes] she's not even close to cute, but this is my opinion. Put her up to Cheryl Ladd-when Cheryl was the same age, and there's no comparison looks wise.

But..what I mean about the sex appeal, is men look at women and look at their face too but you have to admit that they look at their body first, why does anyone think that woman are so over the top with all the plastic surgery right now, if the emphasis wasn't on what their body looked like. I have seen shows were the girls are just going in for surgery over the stupidest stuff, or people that aren't even attractive in their face, and they are worried about their butt.

I just think women use to be more natural looking than they are now, you can't even tell what some of the women really look like anymore, with as much make up as they have on.

The sex appeal to me for a man, isn't all about their looks, even though I don't want someone that looks like Limp Biskit- or Eminem...I want someone that looks like Rick Springfield, but he has to have the personality to go along with it, and he has to be kind and nice and you could get a feel for men that were like that more so in the 70's and 80's, they just seemed more real-to me...this of course is my opinion...I just look at men like Vin Diesel or some of the band members in Bowling for Soup, and they creep me out...I think people say looks shouldn't matter-but of course they do matter to everybody-wether they admit it or not, and our whole society is hung up on looks. I think we are living in a time period that everything is based on sex, I mean it does sell stuff...but it is overly used now...to a degree that is so over the top...we flipped through a channel this morning, and stopped to watch a video on the country channel, and it was this nasty bunch of guys singing a song called: Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy- it was total trash, and the video was disgusting, and I thought..gee Country Music isn't even safe from all this trashy low life garbage. I would die if my kid ran around singing a song like that, I don't understand how stuff like that even gets on the air.

For me...that is one of the things I miss most about the 80's...I have a great husband, and I am super lucky...I have so many girlfriends that can't find a man, or are married and their husband is awful, or they settle for just anybody, because they got the whole biological clock ticking thing, and it just seems like they can't find a decent man, and when I was single and dating in the 80's, I never meet men like what my friends are with now, the guys I dated were smart, and they were compassionate, they were good looking, they had everything going for them, and I have stayed friends with lots of them, and I think about it alot, because I think...gosh I am glad I am not single now, I watched 1 episode of Sex and the City the other night for the first time, and I thought...oh my god, being single would suck. I feel like it totally relates to what people are watching and listening to and the way the world is, so many men seem so uncompassionate any more, and that was the sexiest part I think that made a guy desirable-when you saw him on t.v, is if he cared about people's feelings. Cause I loved the 2 guys in Emergency! I always thought...if they were real life men, they would make great husbands/boyfriends...and this is why I started this, is because I never see that now...I don't see men portrayed on t.v, in a way like that anymore.

I guess women just don't look at other women with men's eyes - I mean there are women who just look stunning and are in-your-face sexy, but often men find girls attactive that we might not think too hot.

I think that one of the most beautiful women around these days is Angelina Jolie. She's hot, isn't she! Plus I think she's got more personality than many others.

Sexy men nowadays... hm.
George Clooney, definitely agree with HipsterMom there!
Another obvious one: Russel Crowe in Gladiator.

Agree to an extent.. It's true Cheryl was a total stunner, by anyone's standards (as also were Farrah, Jaclyn, Kate, Shelley & Tanya [Wink] ), but Kirsten is far from paling by comparison, actually for me she's definitely one of the more striking actresses currently out there.

Who am I liking at the moment? :

Mischa Barton off The OC - an EXTREMELY pretty face.
Natalie Portman
Charlize Theron - agreed Ronnie [Cool]
Scarlett Johansson
Sofia Coppola - looked incredible at the Oscars, that smile, that slightly crinkly nose, I think I'm in love! [Smile]
Cate Blanchett - not immediately as pretty as the above, but grows on you; plus she's highly intelligent and graceful, with apparent warmth to boot.

All-time faves:

Helen Slater in Supergirl - the ultimate crush-object? Very, very possibly! [Eek!]
Kylie Minogue - no more bottom pics, feels like my world's ended [Frown] [Big Grin]
Madeleine Stowe
Laura Linney - how lovely is she??
Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) in Bold & The Beautiful - pre-trout pout [Roll Eyes] , when she was virtually perfect.

These women have had that rare quality of being able to radiate both exquisite sex appeal and at-times heart-stopping loveliness where many of the supposed 'sexiest' actresses like Diaz or Jolie, I'm afraid, fail. I wouldn't swap these women for any others.... Right, cold shower time!! [Big Grin]

Hi,

Wow, Isis replies on this one could fill a book!

Goran Vijnic is my favorite male TV star. ER has been very wise to involve him in some very interesting story lines, like what happened to his wife and little girl and wife in Yugoslavia and being exonerated/blessed by a dying priest. Then there was the way his life was spared in the Congo jungle when all the outsiders were being offed. Last year TNT featured him in a gladiator movie and I almost subscribed to cable just to see it! He is tall, has beautiful, soulful eyes, a tough yet at times gentle manner, just extremely appealing to me. In a couple of years he may branch out from ER and hopefully be as successful as George Clooney.

My votes for most stunningly beautiful female stars go to Kate Beckinsale and Catherine Zeta Jones. They are both beautiful in classic ways. Kate seems to have fallen into "overly slick goth marginal horror movie" purgatory, however. Catherine is probably too controlled by Michael but hopefully will get good roles in the future. She shoulda been Catwoman, but don't get me started!

Natalie Vansier is really pretty (she started out as a child star, and grew into a really beautiful young woman--She's not famous yet, but I loved her in Big Wolf on Campus--And all three stars of that show are good-looking. Aimee Castle is cute. Danny Smith and Brandon Quinn are yummy. [Smile] ). Anyway, here's some pictures of Natalie if you want to know about her (my friend runs the site, he's awesome and put lots of work into it):

http://www.nathalie-vansier.com/

Personally, I like guys in movies that aren't your typical dream boat. I mean, guys that are quirky and have inventive characters that you like from the instant you see them. Think Michael Keaton type guys--Can't say he's exclusively 80's either. Jack Frost anyone? I recently saw Much Ado About Nothing as well. While Michael Keaton wasn't sexy in his role in that one, we did have some good-looking guys in it. Forget Keanu Reeves, though--He was speaking Elizabethan and I was snickering.

How about Elf? I mean, I'm not saying it's a "sexy" movie, but Will Ferrell has just this energy about him that makes him fun to watch--even in Anchorman, which was also hilarious.

I think a personality can make or break how you view a guy and how attractive he is to you. A guy like Brad Pitt could look pretty ugly if he was just snotty and mean.

As for teen idols, the teen actors and actresses that are big now are totally fake. It's just blah. I mean, you could find cardboard cut-outs with more personality.

I totally agree that sex is becoming more and more important and glamorized in our society. I was watching TV one day, and saw that Almost Heroes was coming on (Hilarious movie, by the way.), but there was about an hour to go until it aired. I figured I'd watch a few shows while I was waiting.

VH1 usually has a list show on and is a good time-killer, so I flipped onto there. The segment they were talking about was just sex, sex, sex, so I flipped the channel and waited until they moved on into another topic of discussion. I went back, and it was more sex stuff. I gave up on that and decided to watch Comedy Central--I'd never heard of the show, and it was just screaming and swearing and profanity and it was gross. I was glad Almost Heroes was coming on after the show, anyway. Almost all of the stuff on Comedy Central nowadays is gross and mean--They stopped airing Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. That was funny stuff! I actually liked the Life With Busey show (even if I had no idea what was going on--Was it real? Was it staged? What?), but it was canceled. Now their hit shows are South Park and Crank Yankers. And Chappelle's Show. I mean, it might be just me, but the humor is annoying, and the quotes that get repeated at school just pound into your head. The shows have their moments, but not many.

One of my friends has a lot of guy friends, and she loves hanging out with them--I'm one of the few friends of hers that happen to be a girl--and she is so nice; I don't understand why she hangs out with some of them. I mean, they were talking about gross stuff and innuendos and sex in its various forms. I didn't get the humor.

Ah well. I went off topic. Sort of.

I fell in love with Kirsten Dunst when I first saw her in Interview with a Vampire. And yes, I realise how creepy that is.

Lupa-your sort of on the right track though about what I am trying to say in this topic.

SEX now is so over the top, and so sleazy, it wasn't like it wasn't like that in the 80's, but it was different, I can't explain, you just have to understand it.. I guess.

I see all these dating shows and things like the Bachelor, and people buy that stuff, and believe it, and believe that out of a room full of people, your going to find one that your going to spend your life with, and everyone there is making out with everyone, and then they are all bawling about it, and that stuff is so phoney to me. The men I see on TV shows, even in soaps -any more..they all seem to have a violent temper, or are very unemotional...you don't really connect with them.

I just see alot more of that in real life too..I mean I have friends who just want to meet a "nice" guy and they have no clue where to meet one, and I hear stories all the time about the men they are with, and it makes me feel so grateful to not have to deal with any of that...but I don't think it is just around here...I think it seems to be the thing.

In the 80's, the guys I had as friends and boyfriends, they dressed better than the girls I knew, they liked sports and were athletic-but they weren't mean and violent. All of the guys I ever was around had a sense of humor-and that seems to be the #1 lacking trait of people any more. I have talked to people on the phone-just in general-you know people that you do buisness with..stuff like that.. and you can tell that they have 0 sense of humor, and to me that is creepy.

I just remember everyone having fun, and everyone got along really well. It just feels so different.

So, basically what I am saying about Sex Appeal, is that it use to really be on T.V....not SEX-like today- but men that you thought were like the kind you'd like to see walking down your street, and I use to see those kind of men walking down my street-no lie. I remember always seeing good looking guys around my neighborhood in the summer, walking, with no shirt on...cause they just came from cutting someone's grass, or they were out riding their bike, or there would be groups of them hanging out on the bridge- waving at everyone, or me and my girlfriends would walk over to the field across from my house-and there would be groups of guys playing tag football-and we'd play too-or we'd see who was up at the church parking lot playing basketball and it just doesn't feel like you see that anymore.

It's like nobody hangs in groups any more, except if they are in a bar/club, and everyone seems very up tight, and not relaxed and just wanting to have fun. People are so much more secluded any more from before, and everything just has a different feel to it.

Yeah..it has been awhile...but it takes it to build up in me, before I can pin point what is bothering me.

It isn't me...I just constantly am talking to people that are either depressed, or they can't find a man or both. I have friends who call me just to complain about all of it, and I can't do nothing.

The lastest thing that made me hate the kind of men that are out there right now...is my mom sold her house-to my cousin's boyfriend, she had 3 cats-that she asked him to keep because they have never been anywhere but there, I can't have 3 cats..my son and I are allergic to their hair-they are persians. 1 is deaf, the other was abused-so my mom rescued them, and wanted to make sure they had a good home-she's had them over 5 years-the one cat she has had 10 years, if it weren't for them- she would have moved in with me 2 years ago. This guy waited 2 weeks after getting her house-she gave him all her furniture...so she didn't have to worry about getting rid of it-he made out..she asked him over and over would he keep the cats-she sent him alot of money towards their care...my cousin-his girlfriend, called and said he wants rid of them, and then tells my mom he only said that he'd take them just to get her house- what a jerk. Now my cousin, who's a big animal lover, calls her bawling all the time about the whole thing, she bawls on my answering machine, about how she only attracts jerks, and how she should have known he'd do that, and what's wrong with her..my other friends around here...they then start saying I know men just like that and ones that have done worse, and then I get story after story that are horrible about how these men are awful. And that's what makes me think-what the heck is wrong with people any more, doesn't anyone have any decency any more.

The people that I was friends with in the 80's that were men, I could depend on them for anything, they were never the kind of people that I see out there now. It's like it all relates to the time we live in...that's what I keep thinking. I am lucky because I meet my husband in 1989, before he got warped by all the garbage out there, and I keep my son stuck in time too, so he isn't bombarded with all the garbage, or he'd be just like the other kids in his class that are mean.

My husband came home from work tonight, and was telling me of these people at work he was talking to, the mom was trying to find a guy for her 24 year old daughter...she said there's nothing but losers out there. That's what my girlfriends who are single say all the time, and I think it is just a reflection of the time we live in.

If it weren't for the computer and having meet some nice guys through here, that are my friends now...I never see guys out anywhere that I think are worth a second look, or would give the time of day too...but there use to be. I don't know where they all went.

I am sorry so many other single women are having such a rotten time...I wonder what it is they bring to the dating table, because I've had loads of fun once I became a single chick again at 36. Let's just say, anything had to be better than the marriage I was in!

Nearly 9 years later I am off the market, but I sure had some great times and some good laughs at the expense of some of the goofs I made the choice to go out with.

One guy: People tell me I resemble Sonny Bono.
Me to him: Was that before or after the tree thing?

Another guy: I consider myself a family 'orientated' kind of person.
Me to self: Irregardless, I deserve better than you.

In between those interesting exchanges were a ton of new experiences and awesome times, so at the risk of always taking up the counterpoint, it isn't necessarily a jungle out there.

~It's good to be the queen.

Nomisdrol..I knew you'd love my "kitty" story...I had to give you something to think about while I was gone. I am back from having fun for 2 days.

How it relates to where I started, is in movies and on tv. you saw guys like Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck, Robert Redford, who had alot of "sex appeal"..meaning they weren't just good looking, they made you "want" them, because they seemed like a good guy to have.

Even in music...I use to like Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Brown, and James Taylor-when they were all younger-they weren't drop dead gorgeous, but there was something sexy about them....I don't see that any more, and I am saying that you don't see it in real life either..the guys I see out there "on the market"...don't have one appealing character trait about them, even if you don't go by looks, their personalities suck to no end. I was just saying one of the most recent stories about why alot of men seem to be such jerks...I have a billion other worse stories, I just thought of that one, cause of what a jerk that guy was...it wasn't just the cat thing, it was that he was a big darn liar, and was all nice and friendly to my mom's face, and she thought he was a decent guy-but he was just being that way to get what he wanted. But like I say- what comes around goes around.

My husband knows all about how I feel about guys out there...he thinks I am right too, believe me he doesn't fit in with the redneck idiots I got living around me...so he completely knows the lack of quailty men is not something that is in my mind only.

In between those interesting exchanges were a ton of new experiences and awesome times, so at the risk of always taking up the counterpoint, it isn't necessarily a jungle out there.

~It's good to be the queen.

Not a jungle, more like deforestation and a barren landscape “of tragedies and near-misses” (smuggling 90s movie lines onto the 80s board just for you, a free gulp of oxygen for anyone who guessed the film).

Isis being sexist? never, time for FRANK T.J. MACKEY to enter the room-ah! You're right about sex mania in entertainment, I was thinking about the 80s and how sexual humour (through prevalent in quite a few movies) was never as in-your-face so to speak, as it is today in every single medium out there. Isis, you would love the O.C. (great morality [Wink] [Razz] )

As for sex appeal: Winnona Ryder through the ages from ‘Lucas’ to ‘Lost Souls’ Nona’s still gorgeous.

And nowadays, people like Angelina Jolie and Kiera Knightly.

I probably shouldn't be admitting this . . .

But I watched the movie "Snow" tonight, which was an ABCFamily original movie. I think their original movies are usually all fluff and no substance, but I loved it. And the guy who played Nick--I don't know his name, but I thought he was good-looking. He was a bit of eye-candy, and the movie was cute and funny--and the romances weren't all tacky and based on sex. The girl who played Sandy was very pretty, and not in a fake type of way either. Little side stories with other characters were going on in the background, too, so that made up for the tacky villain.

I think Kate Hudson is really pretty in a natural way. I guess it doesn't hurt to be Goldie Hawn's daughter. [Smile]

I cannot believe I missed this post the first time around. But it is so funny that ISIS and I have the exact same thoughts a lot of the time. I was listening to Rick Springfield's "Affair of the Heart" yesterday morning and I was thinking about the kind of sex appeal that he had. Okay so this thought of hers was from last December, I never said I wasn't slow!! [Big Grin]

Right now the sexiest guy for me is Jacob Young. He plays J.R. Chandler on All My Children and he is just so darn sexy it is unbelievable. He has been awesome on the show the last few days too I hope he gets an emmy for his performance. He is just so raw which is so so sexy!! Oh I had better go I am starting to get a little flushed............

Oh please, pleeeeze put Kirsten Dunst up against Cheryl Ladd......
