This is another movie cindymancini gave me to watch. I started it last night...I have to watch the very end, I am known for konking out in the last 15 minutes of a movie.
But, it had a really great cast. I couldn't believe Cameron Dye was in it, I have never seen him in anything but Valley Girl and The Joy of Sex, he was really cute. Tim Robbins too-that didn't seem much like his kind of role.
I thought it was funny that Evil and Amy from Fright Night were in this movie too as a couple, I wonder if they were friends in real life.
I like Leigh McCloskey-he did a bunch of movies in the 80's, whatever happened to him?? He was Lucy's husband on Dallas. He was under rated as an actor.
Matt McCoy was in it, all I know him as is the husband in The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, I know he did other movies, he reminds me a little of Ray Romano.
I actually liked what I have seen, the guys took Wendell to the beach, so they could use his families condo, but they were really nice to him, nobody picked on him relentlessly-like they do in most movies on the "nerd character", they actually treated him like a person with feelings.
I'll have to watch the very end, but what did anyone else think of it who has seen it?

i think the movie is ok. i have it on dvd. i have to agree that tim robbins doesn't fit in the movie but my main reason for buying it was because it has cameron dye in it (woo!).
i have never seen the ending either though. since i bought it (for only 4-5 dollars), i have only watched it once, and didn't finish it. i am sure i will get around to that sometime in the future. overall, it's a typical 80s fling movie .

Much better than crap like SPRING BREAK or SCREWBALLS. It was better than I expected.

Isis, I'm glad you liked Frat Vac thus far. I think I saw it so many times growing up that it grew on me and that's why I get such a kick out of it. My favorite scene is when Chas (Leigh) shows up at the gym to impress Ashley. The song that's playing is great. It's actually a Madonna song from her first album called "Physical Attraction" but they used a different singer for the movie. But anyways, he walks in right in the middle of her aerobics work-out and he's just giving her the eye and looking all snotty. Then he jumps on the horse and starts showing off...classic!! Yeah Cindy-I remember the song, I liked the music. I remember taking aerobics classes too in the 80's, I loved her outfit!! What I like about those movies, is how clean cut everyone looks, expecially the guys, they look like "nice" guys- even if they were jerks. I love the guys hairstyles so much better in the 80's, and their clothes. The way guys dress and look now, are what the guys who worked at the carnivals looked like to me back in the 80's, that seems to be "the look" now. I really miss the "cute" guys!

Haha, yeah, Isis I liked Ashley's outfit too, all white...so 80's! You're right, Chas was a total pukoid but he was hot! That whole look was amazing. The best was his glasses...they were the aviator/cop glasses but so BIG! They took up his entire face...lol!

Wow Cindy that was different. His artwork and all that is good, but I have no clue what it all means.
I was looking at his pictures, when he was younger and all clean cut and had the feathered hair, he was really good looking, I saw other pictures where he grew a beard and got long hair, he looked awful. When something works well for a person, they should stick with it.
He was the boy friend in Just One of Guys too.
He played that rich snob character really well.

Watched Fraternity Vacation and it was a very good flick. Nice soundtrack by Brad Fiedel (another Fright Night connection)

My question is: Did Ronnie ever get around to finishing "Fraternity Vacation"?
I actually enjoyed this flick, but Stephen Geoffreys always annoyed me in all of his 80's movies. I know it might have been on purpose, but it was to the point that it interrupted my lust at the time for Sheree J. Wilson.

i can't recall if i finished it or not? i think i did. i found my dvd in a walgreens movie bin haha! THAT i remember. and my dvd cover doesn't look anything like the ones posted in this thread? i think i must have some kind of bootleg or something lol.

In answer to your question. Leigh McCloskey was just in an episode of Bones last season as a TV host who debunks common myths, like the Chupacabra, who gets murdered by an angry believer as revenge. I also loved him in Hamburger: The Motion Picture and Just One Of The Guys.

This is one of those 'losin' it' type movies that seemed to be a little better than the others. Maybe it's the fact that it has a slightly heartwarming streak? The name is somewhat deceptive...

I just checked this one out a few nights ago. How timely, considering this thread's been revived! As far as '80s college/high school comedies (one of my all-time favorite sub-genres), this one rates about a 3 out of 5 for me. It's much better than crap like Loose Screws (merely a shot-for-shot sequel to the far superior Screwballs) and Hardbodies 2 (hardly any of the original cast is back, plus the replacements just don't match up to the originals), but not as funny as classics of the genre like Private School and Spring Break.
The less said about Tim Robbins the better. I thought Stephen Geoffreys was the best here. I've always been a sucker for movies where the nerd/outcast finds love, and Fraternity Vacation really satisfied me in that department. It's funny how both he and Amanda Bearse appeared in both this and Fright Night in the same year (1985).
John Vernon played the perfect uptight father/authority figure, not unlike some of his other '80s movie roles. He got around quite well in the '80s in terms of finding work and memorable roles. Such a shame great character actors like him are gone now. Although it's nice to see a movie with your favorite star(s), you definitely can't forget about the character actors who support them.
Valley, that photo of Sheree J. Wilson totally made my night. I am surprised she did not turn up in other similar movies in the '80s. She definitely had the looks and charm to be cast as a female lead or supporting actress in more comedies in the '80s.
I can see how Geoffreys can get annoying with his squeaky voice, though. The best thing I can recommend to you, Valley, as far as focusing on Sheree and ignoring Stephen next time you watch Fraternity Vacation is to mute your TV whenever he talks or try block out whatever part of the screen he's standing. I have actually done this before when watching a movie that has one of my favorite actresses and someone I don't like comes on screen at the same time. I usually hold my hand up in front of either eye, depending on where the offending actor/actress is standing. Try it out and tell me how it works.
