I must say I was a big fan of these guys when I was a kid. I loved the General Lee charger and the way they never used the doors to get in.

I happened to catch an episode this morning and I realized that DOH isn't as good as I thought it was. [Frown] The plots are kinda stupid and predictable, and Daisey annoys me to end.

The only thing I really appreciate from this show is the Charger and the theme song. Sorry I ranted about this. It's just funny to me how something seemed so cool to me as a kid, and now it seems so silly. I guess thats the price you pay for getting older.

I get the Dukes of Hazzard through Columbia House, and we still love it, just seeing Bo run around bo-legged cause his boots were on too tight, that's a good enough story line for me. I mean not much was happening in Hazzard country that doesn't happen in my town on a weekend. Each are full of rednecks. My dool bell is set on the General Lee's horn sound. It is driving me crazy, I thought it was funny at first, but I think I am gonna re set it anyway soon to Christmas music. But my son likes the show, and it was a good show for boys, and there aren't many shows geared towards young boys.

Did you know they're making a movie version of the show?

Really?, that's interesting. Hollywood is really stuggeling to come up with movie ideas now.

I know what you mean, there was a post on this site recently about how sometimes things aren't always as good as you remember them when you saw them as a kid. It was about cartoons like Scooby Doo and certain movies. The Dukes is totally corny now, but I will always love Roscoe P. Coltrane, he is hilarious. I even named my Border Collie Daisey Duke. I am not like obsessed with the show, but it takes me back to those Friday nights when I was a kid watching the Duke boys in action. I liked Luke better than Bo, because everyone loved Bo. John Schnieder is on Smallville now and he still looks good. I am not sure about Tom Wopat. He tried his luck at a country music career. And Cooter, Ben Jones, is a politician now. That seems hard to believe. I will have to check out imdb.com and see who will be playing the Duke boys. I would still see the movie no matter what.

where's the originality???

Posted by Ali_with_an_i (Member # 27) on :

I guess no one has been cast yet. Some rumors said Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker while others said Luke and Owen Wilson. Hmmmm, who'd you like to see cast as the Duke boys?

Posted by isis9968 (Member # 1780) on :

There is no originality left, don't all these movie producers know we are on to them? I hear they are making a Magnum P.I movie too-I never even watched that.

I got to meet John Schneider two years ago here in Dallas. What a day. It was awesome. He is like 6'4 tall.

Devolution here,

Hey folks, I think that the problem was that when we were younger and watching them plot wasn't that important. A good chase scene, a jailbreak, Roscoe screwing up, and Cletus at the garage and that was about all you needed. Daisy was worth the wait too. It wasn't fantastic, but it made the afternoons bearable.

We are DEVO

Yeah that's true Devo. I think the fact that it was funny and they drove a 69 Charger made it watchable for me.

I wonder when they make the movie if they are gonna drive a different car. They better not try to update the General Lee!

Devo...I finally get to bust you, you made a boo boo..it was not Cletus, it was Cooter! Ha ha. Your busted. Whip it! Whip it Good!!! [Razz] [Wink]

An actor from "The Dukes of Hazzard" in public office?

That makes as much sense as a pro wrestler and actor becoming Governor of Minnesota! Oh, wait...that DID happen, didn't it?

Oh, well, let's try this:
That makes as much sense as an Austrian-born muscle-bound bodybuilder and action-movie hero becoming Governor of California? Oh, wait...that also did happen!

OK, then how 'bout this:
That makes as much sense as a cast member from "The Love Boat" TV show becoming a Congressman! Oh, wait...that happened too!

Maybe this will work:
That makes as much sense as Dirty Harry becoming Mayor of Carmel, California! Oh, wait...that happened already!

Lemme try this:
That makes as much sense as Sonny Bono becoming elected Mayor of Palm Springs, CA and later to the U.S. Congress! Oh, wait...that also happened!

Alright...:
That makes as much sense as an amiable b-movie star of such films as "Bonzo Goes To College" and later becoming Governor of California and eventually, President of the U.S.! Oh, wait...it DID happen!

Just goes to show that real life is more stranger (and funnier) than fiction! [Smile]

Hey guys the Dukes arn't that bad, good wholesome family entertainment that passes the day. Or am i just sad. I've got every episode on VHS including both 90's films. Yes they made 2 of them and a Dukes theme on my Computer. Then again i could say the same for CHiPs, bring back shows like them and all is forgiven. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I saw some Dokes of hazard reruns a few years ago, some of the stuff was still cool, but the episode i saw had two aliens in it. Whoa. Stuff we thought was cool back then can be a humbling experience when seen now.

I would love to see some episodes of Airwolf or Streethawk. Just to hear the intro music.

I dunno, I NEVER liked this show. I was in the target age range for The Dukes of Hazzard, I was 2 years old in 1979 when the show first came out and 5 years old in 1982 when Coy and Vance came onboard and replaced Bo and Luke. But even back then at those ages I still thought the show was just freaking retarded.

(the only reason I know some history about this show is because so many other kids back then were into it, so naturally I checked out a few episodes. But I couldn't stand the goober level comedy)

I do know I picked up a few bad habits watching that show. Did anyone else get scolded for not actually opening the car door, but sliding out of the window?

One of the General Lee cars is here in Nashville. I have seen it many times....A country dude drives it....he uses the door!!!! [Big Grin]

I liked the Duke boys when I was a kid too....and yes, watching it now I do find myself wondering why I thought it was so cool....of course, there are quite a few shows like that.

I don't think that the movie industry is trying to be "unoriginal", I think they're trying to capitalize on the nostalgia of all of those old hit shows. They figure if they can update them enough while still keeping the basic premise of the original shows they'll attract all of us 80's folks to check it out. They see it as surefire money. They might not have blockbusters, but they'll make some dough.

My only problem with movies like that is, once I've become attatched to a show and it's characters, it's not always easy to accept someone else playing them, even if it's impractical to have the originals.

The Magnum PI movie is a perfect example. For the longest time, Tom Selleck was trying to get a movie made and now that they've decided to do it, they are probably not going to use the orignal cast members. I don't think that's fair. Hey, they used the orignals for the first 5 Star Trek movies, after all. [Big Grin]

I am reviving this thread, because it started in 2003 by Ali, and now that the movie has come out, it is fitting to see what our original thoughts were at the time!

Jeeze that was from 2003! Thats crazy. I actually thought the new movie was funny. Like I said as a kid I was HUGE Dukes fan, after watching some episodes on DVD I didnt think it was that great anymore. Oh well...

One thing hasnt changed though, The car! I love that Charger!

I'm going to see the movie this weekend only because I got a free ticket when I bought the season 3 box set.
It was filmed in Louisiana too, not far from where I grew up. Maybe I'll recognize some of the locations.
I'm not expecting much from it though.

I went to Dukefest 2005 this past June in Bristol, TN. That was a blast. It is an annual event and I am already making plans to go back next year because I had so much fun.

YEEEEEEHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA

I remember that when I went to kindergarten, my bedtime was supposed to be 8:00, but I got my parents to shift it to 9:00 because of the Dukes, so thanks Bo and Luke!

The funniest thing about seeing reruns of DOH is realizing that Steven "Somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy." Williams somehow played the 'occasional black crook' on nearly ever single episode that called for a black crook.

"Damn. Ain't that Linc? I know I'm getting old."

My husband and I both grew up loving the DOH. We still to this day watch it all the time and his nickname is even Pecoal from Roscoe Pecoal.

errm...Isn't it Roscoe P. Coltrane?

Noms [Cool]

Yes Noms, you are correct.
