And by the way, High Fidelity was complete garbage. I had more fun with Showgirls.

Who's Officer Partridge??

My top fave 80's movies, though it's really hard to narrow down, would be (in no particular order):

1.The Neverending Story
2.Dream A Little Dream
3.Goonies
4.Hairspray
5.Heathers

(God, that was so hard to narrow down, there are so many greats that I love. Oh and Kash, I also like The Outsiders a lot too. Now that I live pretty close to where the film was made, I can sort of identify with the movie a lot more. When I lived in California, Oklahoma seemed a world away, but now I'm only about a 90 minute drive from Tulsa, and about a 5 minute drive from the state of Oklahoma. I like the Tulsa mall).

Never Ending Story was about as close as it comes to filming a dream,I kinda liked Heathers too Bridgette, but only coz I'm a Winnona Ryder fan, even though the head bitch who gets whacked with a cup o bleach was just so good, at being bad.

hey, i'm new. how about this...
top 5 dream guys who could never exist in real life.
1.) john cusack in say anything
2.) jon cryer in pretty in pink
3.) jeff goldblum in earth girls
4.) eric stoltz in some kind of wonderful
5.) alan ruck in ferris

Hey Mina,

Welcome, and great new topic! And you're right, most of those dream guys could never exist in real life! Except for the Jon Cryer-type character in Pretty In Pink.I knew a guy in highschool named Randy who had such a big crush on me, and he acted a lot like Ducky. He was so annoying!!I couldn't stand him!He was one of those retro-punk rock guys who don't get the hint that you dont like them and follow you around anyways, haha. But it would still be cool to dream about a guy like Jeff Goldblum in "Earth Girls" coming true...

i don't know. duckie had such great style in his own way, and they don't come any sweeter or more devoted. :)

Posted by Bridgette Marie (Member # 88) on :

That's so true,Mina.I didn't mean to say that the character of Duckie was annoying, I meant that the guy that liked me,Randy, was annoying.I really liked Jon Cryer in his role in "Hiding Out". It's a very cute, funny, underrated 80's highschool flick.

Posted by mina19972000 (Member # 964) on :

i love that one too, but i don't really know what else he is in. did he make any other classic 80's flicks?

Posted by vgp100 (Member # 1209) on :

He was in Morgan Stewart's Coming Home. The principal fromBreakfast Club was in it too. Really cheezy--but classic 80's.

Posted by Bridgette Marie (Member # 88) on :

In case you haven't seen them yet Mina, I've written pages for Hiding Out and Earth Girls Are Easy, so feel free to check those out(since you're a fan of Jeff Goldblum and Jon Cryer).

And Jon Cryer had a part in Superman 4, so you might want to check that out too.

Hey Mina,

Question about #5 on your list (from a man's perspective). Alan Ruck's character in Ferris (Cameron) existed all over the place. You just never really saw them because they didn't have someone like Ferris ruining their life for them in such a bizarre way. I know guys from my school that were just like Cameron - wanting to be daring and exciting, but never quite managing to go the whole way because they were overshadowed by someone more popular, more crazy, and more confident. However, I will grant you that none of them ever wrecked their father's prized ferrari by running it over a ravine!

Posted by Jeannie (Member # 260) on :

Paul if that were true, I would have noticed! Believe me, I spent my teenage year looking for a Cameron of my very own!
Mina another one for your list should be Andrew McCarthy in St Elmo's Fire, he's so lovely, and the way he was about Ally Sheedy in that film was so sweet! Now I'm older, I'm still looking for a man like him!
P.S. Jon Cryer is in Hotshots as well!

Posted by P_a_u_l (Member # 1022) on :

Trust me, Jeannie, we were there - we just got very good at not being noticed by girls - and we so desperately wanted to be noticed by girls!!!!! (sob)

Posted by Jeannie (Member # 260) on :

Sorry Paul hun, didn't mean to bring up old wounds : )

Posted by Bridgette Marie (Member # 88) on :

Hey Paul, dont feel bad.Sometimes, I would rather I wasn't noticed by guys in highschool as much as I was.A lot of other girls in my highschool thought I was a slut and made up a bunch of dumb rumors about me just because a lot of boys liked me, but that couldnt have been farther from the truth.I hung out with a lot of guys and just had fun and acted silly, and didn't neccesarrily date them, even though thats what the whole school thought.Sometimes, getting too much attention from the opposite sex can make highschool unbearable, but overall highschool was a blast. No responcibilities!

Hola from Mexico city!!! Hi to the US and Moscow!!

Ok, my answer to both topics:

Top 5 movies

1. Streets of fire
2. St. Elmo's Fire
3. Flashdance
4. The Lost boys
5. Footloose

Dream girls on film:

1. Jennifer Beals, Alex in Flashdance, does anybody knows a girl like that??? If so, please ask her to write me, closest to perfection that I've never known.
2. Diane lane in Streets of fire, hot hot hot.
3. Jennifer Gray, Baby in Dirty dancing, Sweet, innocent, nice looking, kind of good dancer

And I think that's it. But Jennifer Belas ranks Number one on my all time babes follow by Sandra bullock (ok more of a 90's star but she did some things in the 80's)

Adios Amigos!!

Streets Of Fire - what a great movie. Very underrated and rarely seen - but so, so good. As I said in my review (which ties in nicely to the topic) a friend of mine, after we saw the movie together, immediately said "That's #4 on my all time favorite movie list" - and he's the type of guy to be very serious about this!

You're right, very underated, but still my top all time movie!!! (not just 80's) I've seen it maybe 150 times and each time I see it, I love it!!!!! I'll never get tired of seeing it.
