wasn't there another comedy with tom hanks from about the same time? the only scene i remember from it was Tom hanks slowly sinking thru a hole in the floor,wrapped in a rug...it was strange...

the film i think you are describing was The Money Pit, another 80's comedy by Mr Hanks, also starring Shelley Long, it tells the story of young couple and the nightmare they face after purchasing a mansion.
