Hahaha ...not really. We're a pretty stubborn bunch.

And I bet if someone on this Board DID see it theyd never admit it for fear of being shunned!

Im kinda surprised that it got as favorable reviews as it did! I take no stock in the usual hollywood shill reviewers. But I've read some decent reviews from various, and unlikely, sources, who's opinions I usually share or respect. Not gonna watch it though, but I honestly thought it would fail both financially and critically, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Ralph Macchio's short film 'WAX ON, **** OFF' was his way of telling us that its all good. That said, I'm surprised by the mostly positive reaction this remakes got so far.

I went to see it after my son begged me to take him. I thought it was ok, not great but not bad either. As previously mentioned on other threads / pages etc, it could easily have been named The Kung Fu Kid but then people would have labelled it a blatant rip-off of the Karate Kid when really it did incorporate much of the original movie.

I thought Jackie Chan's 'Mr Han' was one of the best roles Hollywood has given him and young Master Smith was not half as annoying as he could have been. My only real gripe was the bad guys. You just couldn't connect with them the way you could the original Cobra Kai. Where were the characters of Johnny, Dutch and Bobby that made the original what it was? Whilst these new guys could certainly fight, you couldn't care less about who they were or why they were that way. Also, whilst Dre's finisher was amazing, it just didn't have the plausability that the crane kick had.

I would rate this movie 6.5/10 as a standalone but as it convinced my son to watch the original on DVD the next day I give it an extra point.

Everything is Noms Fu [Cool]

well, i watched the new one last night, with the family. and i have to admit, i thought it was quite cute. i was never really a crazy big fan of the original, though i did like it. i did not think the remake would be worth even seeing, but i can see why kids like this movie.

i made my daughter watch the original a few days prior, and she also loved that one.

7.5/10 [Smile]

I have mixed feeling about the new one. It was quite entertaining, but one could really tell it was made primarily for kids (as opposed to a more for-the-whole-family deal as with the original). Which, per se, doesn't make it BAD, but yeah, it made it harder for me to enjoy it. I hate "cute relationships" between kids. No freakin' way a 10 year old would go through all that trouble for a girl he just met. No way.

I watched the movie primarily for Jackie Chan, anyway, who got to deliver some nice moves in one scene. It was worth it for that alone. I also enjoyed the fighting at the end. But I really couldn't care less for all this romance in-between. Yeah, I know, the original had its fair share of that, too. But at least we had teenagers, not some annoying kids. Oh, and this time around, an awful actor in the lead.

I know I would enjoy it a whole lot more if I was still a kid. Hell, if I was younger, I might even have found the ho'mance* (remember who coined that term!) compelling.

*kind of like romance, but with a chick you get beat up (or just get sh*t) for being with even though she's not worth it...and yet you insist on doing so because she's "hawt". Romance on a shallow level.

Jackie Chan is just awsome and have grown up around his movies but out of principle im really not interested in watching a remake which by the sounds of it, is nothing at all like the original...many people have said how surprised they were how good it was and thats great but im sorry, this is NOT the karate kid

I am not gonna watch it unless Johnny 'Sweep the leg' Lawrence is in it.

Obviously I love the original, it's one of my favorite films of all time. That being said, I actually liked this one too. Just saw it for the first time about a week ago. I didn't love it, but I found it to be fun. I'm actually glad that they used younger actors and not teens like the first. It was a similar story but they changed it enough so that I didn't get mad thinking this was a generic rip off of the first. All and all not a bad movie.

I have no interest in supporting Willy Smith and his offspring. If nepotism is how you get roles then it's a poor state of affairs. Zero interest.

Same.

I watch nothing with him or his nutty family members in it. His boy looks as if he needs directions in order to know how to breathe. Forget about acting.

I don't like Jaden Smith as an Actor and his Dad should have to apologise for putting him in films. Nepotism doesn't work. Let him go back to writing rubbish on Twitter and leave the acting profession alone [Big Grin]

Ha. I didn't even know he was Will smiths offspring. I didn't hate the movie but I wouldn't give it a rewatch. I would rate the original as a 1994 Courtney Cox in ace Ventura and the remake as a 2021 Courtney Cox
