It is actually call the White Crane. The White Crane is a full technique it consist of more than a kick, it's an array of moves. Example: The hands in a beak position used to but not limited to crack the skull(advance move),attack the eyes...the arms the way they are folded is used to trap a forward kick at the elbows, the kick attack the shins of an assailant(most old Okinawa style didn't kick above the waist). These of course is a few examples. So you see the White Crane is a full complientary arsenal. It was only taught to the very devoted student. Watch the KK#3 when Miyagi fought Terry Silver he uses mostly White Crane Tech.

I beg to differ. Here is a quote from Darryl Vidal, who was the semi-finalist that Johnny Lawrence defeats, as well as the Miyagi stunt double for the beach crane scenes.

btw, Pat Johnson pretty much ran the show for the movie. Also played the referee of the All Valley

"...the crane technique, as depicted in the movie, isn't a real move in any karate or kung-fu. Pat Johnson told me what he wanted, and I basically said, "you mean something like this?" It is widely recongized, and I still hesistate when I tell my karate students that I made it up. But as you might have guessed, there is very little practical application to the technique."

Being a karateka and have studied the White Crane style. I'm saying that Mr. Johnson did his homework and told Vidal what he thought a movement in the Crane technique would look like. The end result came very close. Good vision and research P.Johnson.

it is simple.watch the fighting
scene carefully.Daniel made a timing mistake with the crane technique.so it didnt worked against chozen.

The crane didn't work cause Choze(?)his sensei (miyagi's)friend and miyagi had same teacher, Miyagi's father. The crane was taught to both Miyagi and his friend. They past their teaching to their number student Daniel and Chozen.
