"Riptide is a TV detective series that ran on NBC from 1984 to 1986, starring Perry King, Joe Penny, and Thom Bray.
Riptide was created by Frank Lupo and Stephen J. Cannell, and produced by Stephen J. Cannell Productions.
The main theme was composed by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter.
A mid-season replacement, it debuted as a two-hour TV movie in early 1984." (wikipedia)

Riptide is one of those shows that never got aired here in Finland
but i just watched the long pilot episode they released on VHS here back in the day and it rocks!

King and Penny are great as the easy going guys always looking for some excitement and of course - girls.
Bray is the team nerd who looks just like Robert Carradine in Revenge of the Nerds.
And then thereīs this cool robot called Roboz which the guys treat like a family member right from the start.

I loved the California locations and Mike Post theme tunes never fail.
Lovely Karen Kopins (Once Bitten, Jake Speed) is the pilot episode guest star
and she gets lots of screentime.

Three seasons were made and i would love to get all the episodes.
Riptide has been released on dvd in US, Canada and Germany but none of them is perfect.

Any Riptide fans here?

I'm a fan of Riptide, I have all three seasons on DVD. Found an intro to the series on youtube and I thought it looked interesting. So I bought the first season just to satisfy my curiosity ... Then I was sold [Smile] I really like Nick and Cody and the chemistry between these two, I usually describe the series as Magnum times two [Smile]

I've never heard of this show. I don't know how I missed it, but if Megaforce describes it as "Magnum times two", well, now you've got me interested [Cool]

Nice write-up, Atomik.

Slowly building my collection of classic tv shows, and this one is on the list.

Atomik, what do you mean by the various dvd releases not being perfect? poor picture quality, music changes?

I hate how little respect some of these tv show releases get from companies putting them out. And the music rights issues are often a pain. I had already bought season 1 and 2 of Tour Of Duty region 1 when I learned that they changed most of the original music! So I had to rebuy and complete the series with region 2 releases which thankfully kept the music intact.

Yeah, i hate when they make changes.

Hereīs the info from Wiki:

Riptide season 1, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (US)
- Many of the opening teasers are missing.

Riptide: The Complete Series, Visual Entertainment (CAN)

- Unlike the U.S. release, all of the opening teasers are intact.
However, several episodes have music replaced and sequences edited out due to copyright issues.

Riptide: The Complete Series, Universum Films (Germany)

- No teasers.

The teaser are not THAT important but itīs still annoying.

I think that iīm gonna get the German box set.

Yeah, sounds like the one to get. What a disgrace that the full show didn't even get a release in its own country.

Riptide was a show I was raised on. Even loved it when Robert Palmer called his album that in 86. Need to get this show on DVD, this and Tales of the Gold Monkey have been on my list for a while.
