I found a 1983 stuffed unicorn at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago-I'm sure I had a similar one in the 80's [Smile]

 -

I've been thinking about unicorn stuff I had as a preteen/teenager. I used to have lots of unicorn pics by Sue Dawe:

 -

Any past/present unicorn lovers out there?

This thread is too cute. I must re-balance it by saying unicorns = horses with dildos on their heads. Freud would have a field day!

Seriously, beyond the whole 'magical creature' thing, unicorns never really registered with me.

Lmao Logan! I agree! I had a few friends who liked unicorns, which I thought was corny and immature in high school. I was told the Pegasus was a symbol for bargoers that it is a gay bar.

I like the surreal turn that this thread has taken. [Smile] I was in Pittsburgh last week, PGH-girl, and I didn't see a Pegasus on the door of LeMont. The only thing that I saw there was the place charging me the equivalent of a mortgage payment for dinner. I mean, OK, it is just about the greatest view in the world from your table, but do they really need to charge $65 for a bottle of Francis Ford Coppola wine that I can buy in the liquor store for $20? [Smile]

I hate that when you order wine in a restaurant, the markup is like 300%. The only place I order wine anymore is at Teddy's by the turnpike. They don't charge much over what you would pay at the Wines and Spirits store (another subject that chaps my ***- why can't we just buy everything in one store- groceries, wine, beer, liquor!)

Teddy's by the turnpike! I even know where that is. ROFL Pennsylvania is the most backward state in the country when it comes to alcohol. Stupid rules, stupid state store system, poor selection... My *** also gets chapped all the time when I go out to buy booze, not just at overpriced joints like LeMont, where there's a price tacked on to everything for that great Pittsburgh view from the Mount. [Frown]

Nothing wrong with Unicorns, I quite like them. In fact, they probably existed at some point in time somewhere in the world. Most likely in the form of a Shadhahvar.

The First World Map by Hadji Ahmed Muhiddin Piri Reis (1513) also illustrates creatures found in the Patagonian region (i.e. South America). And its quite clear to see that they're around...

Interesting stuff there Kash. I never really thought that they could be real. But it looks like they might have been at some point in time.

It's quite clear to see that there is an animal with some kind of curved horn on it's head... probably a goat. Especially since horses were introduced to America by the Spaniards.

If Unicorns had ever existed we would have seen their fossilised remains. Unicorns, unlike sabre-toothed Tigers, never existed. But, like Dragons, they're a nice spin on an animal that did/does exist.

However, Bam-Bam is real... as is her love of the Unicorn.

Yeah right Logan, next you'll be telling me that Smurfs and Mermaids are fictional too!

But seriously, when Charles Darwin reached Patagonia 323 years after Hadji Ahmed Muhiddin Piri Reis, he found something later named Equus Curvidens: This fossil apparently proved that a type of horse was around & hunted millenniums before the Spanish invasion.

The unicorn was probably some kind of Toxodontidae-Notoungulata or Tapir looking creature.
 -
Notoungulates lived around 32 million years ago in South America and looked something like this.

It's unique physical characteristics are not uncommon though its mythology was probably created by combining scientific facts with stories to conjure up an idealized, mystical creature.

And so this...

 -
CGI rendered South American Toxodontidae.

This...

 -
Cueva de las manos (Cave of Hands) painting in South America, dates back 9000-14,000 years ago.

And even this...

 -
'Unicorn' Deer in Rome, 2008.

Became this...

 -
A rarely spotted creature of extreme beauty, an all powerful mythological being and a unicorn.

And this...

 -
The future of law enforcement.

Smurfs are real, but Mermaids are a fictional mix of Mer-Men (see 'Creature from the Black Lagoon') and Maids (see a Hotel near you).

Darwin was a drunk who used to mix up fossils for a laugh, and make up crazy theories to amuse his friends. 'Origin of the Species' was a wheeze he wrote on a dare. And Piri Reis was a liar; he never went any further than the end of his street. He is the cause of the highly popular and still commonly used phrase; "Never trust a Turk whose name is Piri because he's probably lying".

Goat.
