Okay, so we're starting into the NFL playoffs and such. Maybe it's too early to predict a Super Bowl matchup, so from the teams that are left, who do you HOPE makes it to the big game? I'm pulling for the Titans or the Dolphins for the AFC. For NFC, I'm pulling for the Giants or the Panthers. I realize that the Dolphins are a longshot, but c'mon. They were 1-15 last season. Go Chad!

Oh, and I am so, so, so, so glad the Cards beat the Falcons and Sand Diego beat the Colts (this because of an idiot I work with).

I'd like to see a Panthers/Steelers or Panthers/Titans Super Bowl. I'm a happy camper as long as the Cowboys aren't in it although I favor Carolina........

As you will see very soon...I am waaaay out of the football loop. Any chance of....GO BEARS GO! Didn't everbody cheer for the Bears in the 80's? Can someone fill me in on the contenders? I do remain interested, but the last several years have been really busy....

Vikings vs Dolphins

The Vikings need to start getting revenge for their four Super Bowl losses.

The Dolphins will be first with the Chiefs, Steelers and Raiders to follow.

hey motley, it's you and i next week.. team vs. team anyway [Wink]

No, see, the Bears screwed up and lost their last game. How, how, how can you do that, especially when you know it depends on you getting a wildcard spot or not???? Anyway, I'm still a loyal Bears fan. They'll go back to the Bowl one day and win another one. Hopefully.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Your on my turf next week Ronnie lol. I think if Minnesota wins today they will be the ones who play the Panthers. I'd like to see a Birds/Cats matchup though.....

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I've been a Bears/49ers fan for about 20-25 years, haven't had much to cheer about with exception of the 49ers success in the 90's, and the Bears appearance in a Super Bowl in the 2000's. The Bears will never get anywhere unless they can draft or acquire a franchise QB. Detroit is in the same boat, although the Bears are a much better team.

My Super Bowl picks are iffy right now. I don't like a lot of the teams left, I don't want to see the Giants repeat. For the first time in ages I don't really care who wins. I do think the Dolphins are a great story but don't see them going far.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

I can't believe the niners decided to keep Singletary. Singletary was a helluva player for the Bears but that doesn't always mean one's gonna be a great coach. I would have figured they'd explore their options a little more. He seems like a showboating clown with some of the antics this past year.......

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

See, see, I am not the only one who thinks the Bears need a new QB!!! So what if Grossman was a good college QB? That means nothing in the pros. Orton tries hard, I think, and I like him better than Grossman, but still...I think Grossman's an idiot. When he plays I yell very mean things at him, LOL.

As for Singletary, I guess the niners are keeping him cause he's done okay with them since he's been coaching. Hell I don't guess they could get much worse than what they were. Who knows, though? It seems to be that time of year for firing coaches, so I guess anything could happen.

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

The Dolphins dream season appears to be over. Very very nice season for them following last years dismal 1-15 record. Now the real test will be next year when expectations are going to be much higher for them.

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I didn't mind seeing Singletary as coach of the 49-ers. I guess he is there for good as most of the games he coached were wins or were close games. Really too bad about Alex Smith, he never really materialized. They have some good receivers, it's just getting them the ball. I guess they get a high draft pick, so maybe that will be addressed.

The Dolphins couldn't get anything past the Baltimore defense. 52 yards on the ground. They had a great year though, and Tuna was surprisedly quiet. Maybe next year....

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Detroit gets top pick in the draft. Damn I feel sorry for some poor college kid even if he will be an overnight millionaire.......

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

The Super Bowl's on NBC this year, isn't it? Guess I won't be watching it.

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Predictibly the Vikings lost to the Eagles today. After being written off a little over a month ago the Eagles are flying high right now and could prove to be a tough matchup for anybody.

So we're down to the final 8

in the NFC we have

Arizona vs Carolina
Philadelphia vs NY Giants

in the AFC (not sure of the matchups for next week)

San Diego
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Tennessee

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

This year Bruce Springsteen is doing the Super Bowl. I like him, but it's hard to think of him doing a venue like that.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm predicitng a Chargers-Eagles Super Bowl.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Baltimore's playing at Tennessee and Chargers playing at Pittsburgh reportedly without Tomlinson whose injured. I hadn't heard if Big Ben's gonna start.

P.S. It's me vs. you Ronnie!

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Gotta pull for the Titans and Chargers.

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

I'm hoping for an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl; apart from the novelty, both teams are well-run, ethical franchises who'd deserve the title (that plus the knowledge gained earlier in the year that Jim Johnson's defense can get to Roethliberger at will, and the additional knowledge that maybe now that his curse has apparently been broken by his statue being put atop the Comcast Building, now Philadelphia's tallest, William Penn may start smiling on all his franchises). If this cannot work out, I'd like an exotic Cardinals-Titans matchup, both of whom make nice changeups to the tradition parade of champions (although speaking of curses, one may argue the Cards might not win until the Pottsville Maroons get the 1925 title back).

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

hehe i know how everyone feels about the cards. but i will support them no matter what. it would be great if we even get to compete for the title.. but that's probably a long shot. still!!! go cards!

and good luck motley. [Smile] i hope it's a good game, if your guys blow us away, you cannot rub it in, deal?! [Big Grin]

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Deal I'm saying nothing lol. The Cards have suprised people all year. I think it will be a closer game than a lot of people are anticipating.....

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Looks like the Panthers are gone till next season.....

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Cardinals layed a thumping on the Panthers.

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I was shocked the Cardinals went on to win easily after the opening Carolina score. Who you guys picking for tomorrow?

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Pittsburgh and NY Giants, even though I'd prefer to see san Diego and Philadelphia

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

I never thought yesterday's games would turn out the way they did. I'm pulling for the Giants 100% today and also for the Chargers. I don't like Philadelphia at all, or Pittsburgh either, for that matter. I can't stand the Ravens but if they wind up playing the Steelers I will pull for them.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Delhomme threw 5 frigging interceptions. I certainly hope the Panthers use their draft slots wisely next year and draft a decent quarterback.....

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

The NFC Title game sure is a huge surprise. A month ago who would have imagined that either Philadelphia or Arizona would be one win away from the Super Bowl?

Now if San Diego can only beat Pittsburgh the final four will be all surprises.

Downturn to this is it's setting up to be one of the least watched Super Bowls of all time.

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!! I am so glad the Bowl is on NBC this year and I can't watch it! My only hope is that the Chargers beat the Steelers...

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

Starting to shape up where it might be a Battle of Pennsylvania Super Bowl.

i was hoping the panthers would win i couldn't believe that game?? they played so good all thru the season then this? don't really care at this point who wins? lol dee

I care, but since I'm not gonna be watching it, I don't care, either. No more football for me till next season.

everyone's interest is fizzling out, i see.

i'm so excited for the cardinals. and glad that the eagles won, since that makes a home game for us, next week.
it's really an exciting time here in phoenix. i know a lot of people can't believe it still lol.

The Bird Bowl is officially next week, and the Ravens-Steelers will be the equivalent of a street fight.

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

we are guaranteed of at least one bird being in the Super Bowl and if Baltimore can wins next week the Super Bowl will be the bird bowl.

In my mind Dallas has already won the Super Bowl....ok ok I'm just dreaming....I love my Cowboys, but good god they sucked this year....The Cowboys and George W. Bush sure have been giving Texas a bad name.....

Tony Romo & Terrell Owens = Overpayed & Overhyped

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

I'm really surprised that Wade Phillips still has a job at this moment. Dallas was supposed to be one of the best teams ever this season and they didn't even make the playoffs. Good teams don't lose the last game of the season 44-3 with their playoff lives on the line.

I agree that T.O and Romo are overhyped plus throw in the Pacman Jones fiasco and it would be hard for any coach to overcome those obstacles. But unfortunately coaches are made into the scapegoats so I'm finding it hard to believe that Phillips is still the head coach down in Big D.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

I heard Dallas was interested in Michael Vick as he's due for release this summer. How bout Tony Dungy retiring? He's about a classy guy as they come IMO. Jim Caldwell (ex Wake Forest football coach) is now the Colts' coach........

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Michael Vick to the Cowboys? Good grief. I cannot stand Michael Vick...I still think that instead of prison a little punishment by pit bull wouldn't have hurt. Anyway...

I agree, Tony Dungy is a classy guy. I always thought he was a good coach.

Posted by Eddie Wilson (Member # 169) on :

Yea if Michael Vick comes to the Cowboys, I will resign as a fan....I do not like animal cruelty at all, so this dude can go to hell before I accept him as a cowboy.....it was hard enough accepting TO for that star incident a few years back on another team

Yay Cards!!

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Steelers vs Cardinals for the Super Bowl

That's an easy choice for me

GO CARDS!!!!

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

Wow, some great games today. I really thought the Eagles had a shot, but the Cards prevailed. It's now Ben vs. Kurt.

Posted by NiceGuy Sammy Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Go Kurt

Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :

Most definitely go Kurt!

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

most most definitely go kurt! [Wink]

hooray for the cards! [Big Grin]

Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :

Being a Giants fan I am struggling to pick a team to support in the Super Bowl. The romantic in me would love to lowly Cardinals and the brilliant Kurt Warner to win. Then again Pittsburgh are amazing in defence and big Ben a future hall of famer I think.....

I'm gonna go with my heart.. GO CARDINALS!!!!

Posted by Colt 45 (Member # 4940) on :

I say Steelers 35 Cardinals 17

Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :

I'm gonna say, Steelers 20 Cardinals 21

Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :

I can't believe nobody is talking about the big one, its this SUNDAY PEOPLE!!! HELLO!!!
I'm so excited I can hardly sit. I Love the Superbowl. I got my night all planned out. It involves lots of Heineken and food that is really bad for me.. WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

I'm gonna go for the upset and Kurt: Cards 24, Steelers, 21..........

Posted by Sammy Reign In Blood Hain (Member # 3150) on :

That would be awesome if the Cards could pull it off

Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :

Ah the romance of the underdog..
I too hope for an Arizona win. But the realist and the gambler in me says no way.. Steelers Superbowl.. But hey it'll be a great game I'm sure.

Posted by 80'sRocked (Member # 6979) on :

I could care less about football or who is playing. All I want is to hit the final score in my pool and win the $5000!

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

I think Steeltown will be too strong, but an underdog like the Cards who have never won anything would be pretty special.

Posted by Sammy Reign In Blood Hain (Member # 3150) on :

If the Steelers win they'll have the most Super Bowl titles of any franchise. Currently they're tied with the Cowboys and 49ers with five Super Bowl rings. Here's hoping that after Sunday there will still be a threeway tie for most Super Bowl victories.

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

I think it'll be close, but I'd say Pittsburgh has the upper hand (and perhaps the incensed ghosts of the Pottsville Maroons on their side as well) and will prevail by somewhere between 7 and 11 points.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

thanks for the support for arizona everyone! it would definitely be a special time for the cards if they win. they're in the superbowl, which means they have a chance, right?

oh and good luck 80srocked, on winning that pot.

Posted by Colt 45 (Member # 4940) on :

I am kind of surprised that the Nat'l media and also on the internet message boards, that there isn't much talk about Pat Tillman. (Former AZ Cardinal who died in Iraq)

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

I will be at a club that my friends belong to, drinking and eating and hopefully the Steelers will win, because I don't want to be around some people when they lose. The whole town will be a downer. They had a huge pep rally today for them. It's freakin' nuts here. I just hope Big Ben isn't feeling toooo relaxed this time around.
If they do win, the city officials are considering NO parade because of what happened 3 years ago- the crowds got outta control.

Posted by buffalo-girl (Member # 7498) on :

we are going to our best buddies house for a superbowl party with lots of beer and pizza and wings of course we are hoping the cardinals win also but it is gonna be a close game!! have fun everyone!!! [Smile] [Wink] [Cool]

Posted by Sammy Reign In Blood Hain (Member # 3150) on :

Even if the game turns out to be a dud we should at least be treated to some good commercials. Bud Light usually has a couple good ones every Super Bowl.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Has anyone heard anything about Julius Peppers going to Dallas? I know Panthers have the option of franchising him. Cowboys are to football what Yankees are to baseball to me. I wish them both miserable seasons lol.......

What a great performance. Bruce has the energy and enthusiasm of a man half his age.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Bruce Springsteen is going to need knee replacement surgery after all that.

He did a good job- but I can't believe he didn't sing "Born in the USA".

I couldn't understand ANY of the commercials...they were dumb. We had the 3D glasses, and nothing really looked 3D- why didn't they throw footballs at people- and make it look like they were going to hit you in the face.

The SOBE thing was stupid. I don't even get it, or how any of that had anything to do with a drink.

I hated the LMAO commercial.

I hated the preview for Monsters and Aliens- that looks awful.

I think Bruce Springsteen and Faith Hill wore the same outfit.

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

Are you ever positive about anything (cue the one page response)? How is it possible to say society in general is negative about things with a post like that? You could have saved yourself some time typing because we all knew deep down in our hearts you'd hate everything about tonight with the exception of Bruce...........

so close yet so far.

I was really hoping the Steelers would lose

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Well...I did think it was cool that they got the longest play in history tonight, that was pretty cool.

But, I was waiting to see cool commercials, and they stunk.

Your right...all I wanted to see was Bruce Springsteen, and I thought it was cool to see Clarence Clemmons and Little Stephen on stage with him.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

Actually I do think that it is cool that the Steelers won. I am from Pennsylvania. This is their 6th Superbowl , nobody else has ever done that.

I had a guy who stayed here at our B & B, who was friends with Joe Namath and he helped him get recruited.

So, even though I am not a football fan, I did think some of it was neat.

I liked the fireworks display too.

But....I feel like those commercials cost 1 million per second, and so you expect AWESOMENESS and they weren't, usually the Superbowl 1/2 time has such cool commercials, and we were all sitting here wondering what the big deal was with the 2 3D ones, because there was nothing to them.

Posted by Sammy Reign In Blood Hain (Member # 3150) on :

I thought with the exception of Harrison's interception return right before halftime that the first three quarters were pretty boring and that the Steelers would blow out the Cardinals. But that fourth quarter turned it into one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever. That makes two years in a row that the Super Bowl lived up to its billing.

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

Helluva game! I was rooting for Arizona, and when Fitzgerald got that TD I thought they had a chance to win it, but I tip my hat to Big Ben for going down that field and getting the winnig score. I didn't think the game could be as good as last year, but it might have surpassed it. You couldn't ask for a better game, although I could have done without some of those penalties.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

great, great game. it was heartbreaking, but i'm proud of the cards. they had a chance there in the 4th quarter,...i didn't know which way it was gonna go.

good job steelers, and congrats...BUT...
a few dirty blows. not cool.

anyway, i loved the 3-D commercials. i can't wait to see the new G.I. Joe movie and the 3-D monsters vs. aliens. those commercials were pretty sweet.

i had heard that the budgets for the superbowl commercials were cut back because of the economy. if that was the case, good. the game was more exciting than the advertisements...good stuff.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

oh ya.. bruce springsteen... lol slid across the stage right into the camera. good move, boss.

Posted by Stitch Groover (Member # 2895) on :

All of Australia was supporting Arizona, because Ben Cousins is the first Aussie to play in a Superbowl.
He was a really famous and popular Aussie rules footballer before moving to America to throw on the padding and helmut.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

As I mentioned in the Springsteen tthread, I thought the Superbowl was an incredible game. I really thought Arizona showed tons of heart to keep coming back. In the end, I was impressed that the Steelers were able to make plays necessary to win the game. So congrats to any Steelers fans on here and great game to any Cardinals fans.

Springsteen is and always will be an entertainer. Ronnie, The Boss has probably been doing that stage slide for over 30 years, but unleashing it right into the camera was still very cool to watch. And I'm so ready to go see "Monsters vs Aliens" after that 3-D preview.

I thought the commericals were lackluster at best. Some were decent, but none left a truly lasting impression.

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

Probably the best commercial was the Budweiser spot of the horses eloping; it was rather amusing when the circus horse threw off her rather overweight rider to run off with her beau. Besides that it was hit and miss. Other than that, a very well played game that you expect from a Super Bowl (which has been largely the case this decade after the 80s and 90s were mostly yawners), although apparently there is a curse from the Pottsville Maroons on the Cardinals, and perhaps the best way to ensure another chance at the world title would be to just give in and let them have the 1925 title.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I watched all the previews again on

www.hulu.com

The only thing that looked 3D to me - was the ping pong paddle thing at the beginning.

I never understand when they show a man pull his pants down and sit on a Xerox machine- why that is funny.

Especially in a kids cartoon movie...I really can picture them doing that in a Walt Disney movie that Walt Disney actually made. NOT!

The G.I. Joe movie looks like it's the same thing as Transformers 2- they could morp all these movies together to be 1 giant movie.

Posted by buffalo-girl (Member # 7498) on :

the only commercials i really liked was the first dorito one and the budweiser eloping horses myself the others were just dumb but i really enjoyed the half-time show with the boss i thought he was excellent and in great form he still rocks!! [Smile] [Cool] [Wink]
