Devolution here,

So my son was up at 3 in the morning, as he has been basically everyday since birth, and my wife and I caught the beginning of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I started to like it, and wound up buying it for cheap on Amazon.

I thought this movie was good, in the "If I was 18 now, I'd probably like this movie a lot, it has unique music, and Semi attractive girls in it." kind of way.

I don't get how Michael Cera has played the same character more times at his age than anyone since Anthony Michael Hall. At least Hall evolved into a good looking guy and played "Johnny B. Good" Cera, is always tall, geeky and getting girls that are entirely too attractive for him in each and every movie that he is in. This makes zero sense to me and needs to be explored and revisited.

Think about it:
The Girl in Superbad : Way out of his league
Ellen Page (JUNO) cute.
The Girl from Scott Pilgrim : Very Cute
This movie: Kat Dennings is good looking in this.

To sum up:
They chase around a band called "Where's Fluffy?" for the better part of the movie, only not to hear one song from them (dumb). They have limited song discussion and have one of those "Kiss me because I don't want to look alone" moments.

But in all the movie flowed well and had a few "I would have loved to have done that to someone" moments.

Check it out. Even if for the music.

Devolution here,

To add to that, I thought the casting was very well done. If you don't live in NYC you don't really know that people literally stay up and out all night, so in that case, it was kind of true to fact.

This is one of my favorite little romantic comedies I watch every now and then.

I don't know.. something about a guy making you a mixed cd to express his feelings.. even if it wasn't originally meant for Norah. She appreciated it, because she's a music lover and the daughter of a musician. Two things that are close to home, for me.

I also bought this movie cheap.. I don't know many people who have even seen it. I'm always recommending it.

Love those kinds of movies that take you through an entire night of mishaps as a romance builds.

Norah was a cool character, I thought. And I love Kat Dennings in her sitcom "2 Broke Girls".. which she's awesome in.

As for Cera, ya he plays the geeky roles, more of an underdog in my eyes. And he's good at it.
Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorites with him.
I actually did not like Juno.

I have the soundtrack.. great stuff!

I bought Nick & Norah on blu-ray last year after accidentally reading a review in which the movie
was described as a cross between a teen-comedy and Scorsese's After Hours.
As i mentioned elsewhere, i still love watching teen movies. And After Hours (or the similar Into The Night)
is classic stuff that needs to be revisited every now and then.
So yeah, i was interested in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, for sure !

To be honest though, it's still on my 'to watch sometime soon' pile (along with 200+ other movies).

But the impression that i got from checking out the disc (which is what i always do when i buy one),
is that it's somewhere along the line of some other teen movies that i have seen recently.
The Art Of Getting By and It's Kind Of A Funny Story come to mind. All of them do not fall into
the 'raunchy teen sex comedy' type, but rather into the more serious 'teen drama / comedy / coming-of-age' genre.
I had some mixed feelings about The Art Of Getting By (although it's very charming, i must say),
but i loved It's Kind Of A Funny Story. (If you haven't seen it, go do so!)

I still have to see Youth in Revolt with Michael Cera. Has anyone seen it ?

And as a sidenote : Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is awesome ! [Smile]
