Lot of good TV shows back then: Going Live! Saturday Superstore with Mike Reid, Ghost Train etc.

One of my favs was 'No. 73', looking back at some clips it makes you sad to realise just how much freedom we've lost from then to now.

In this clip here, he's essentially singing about sensi (cannabis) and no government kwango intervened and nor did an entire generation get hooked on narcotics because of it. I daren't imagine the hoopla today...

No. 73

At least people had their priorities straight then.

Just out of interest: Dawn from 'No. 73' now directs Ken Loach style films, her latest; 'Fish Tank' got some good reviews.

Didn't she win an oscar?

It was a more innocent time. Then again, back then 14 year old girls weren't saying they were 19 and getting into clubs and shagging a bloke afterwards. Now they'll take a topless shot of themselves looking in the bathroom mirror and send it to their 'boyf' (this weeks, anyway), and he'll post the pic on Facebook and be arrested.

There also weren't gangs of twelve year old's hanging around in parks getting drunk at 11:00pm on a school night.

Ok, I know it used to happen. But it happened a lot less. The 24hr culture has stripped a lot of rules away, and things like 'social stigma' just don't exist anymore. It's getting harder and harder for parents to keep their kids as kids.

Oh I loved n73....I still remember the address was in Maidstone, Kent haha. Sandy Toksvig was Ethel, and Dawn was on roller boots signed by Spandau Ballet....ahhhhhhhh I also still remember when someone said 5 star were s**t on going live...ooh and Ghostrain (oooohhh aaaaaaah) gilbert the Alien and Gaz Topp. Saturday morning TV ruled!!!!

'It's saturday, no school today, so what ya going to do?, there's no excuse to stay in bed, we're waiting here for you.......weeeeee're WIDE AWAKE'!!!! Thanks Kash...you've made an Angel very happy x

I may be getting it mixed up but didn't they also play some bizare phone in called the Sandwich game on No73.
All those Saturday morning shows were great and it just looked like the presenters were really enjoying themselves and getting away with far more than now.

I remember the 5-Star F-bomb. They deserved it.

A Saturday morning show I liked that nobody seems to remember is 'On the Waterfront'.

Logan5, you've hit the nail on the head there.

And Dawn (real name Andrea) won an Oscar for best short film in 2003.

I remember 'On The Waterfront' (distressingly enough, I can still recall the theme tune) used to annoy me because I preferred 'Going Live'. Andrew O' Conner and co with their scattergun, Christmas cracker / Tim Vine style jokes were no substitutes for Gordon The Gopher, Sarah Greene et all (notice how a puppet gets top billing over his human co-stars)

Earth Angel, Wide Awake Club was actually worth getting out of bed for, ridiculously: you'd get up earlier during school holidays then on school days. Playing Mallet's mallet with a pillow or cushion. The good old days...

Michaela Strachan never slept in the 80s: daytime with Mallet and Tommy Boyd then up all night at 'Mr Smiths', Warrington on 'The Hitman And Her'!

Mike, have vague memories of the sandwich game, sounds like 73.

Ah yes... Andrew O'Conner and Bernadette Nolan! It's all coming back to me now! They aired it for one series between 'Going Live' series'.

'The Hitman and Her'! Yesssss... junk TV for when you got in late. Pete Waterman wasn't as famous then as he became (at least, his face wasn't), so everyone would watch it and say, "I recognise 'her', but who's 'The Hitman'?"

At my 13th birthday sleepover, me and my friends had our pictures taken in front of the tv while the hitman and her was on, so we would look like we were in a night club haha (it didn't work)...nowadays 13 years ARE in the nightclubs -SCARY. [Eek!]
