Do any of you skateboard or did you used to when you were a kid? I never did, because my mother wouldn't allow me to get a skateboard. I did roller skate at the local roller rink alot when we were young, but once we got to high school, we hardly ever went. I also went ice skating a few times at the arena in our town, but it was only for two hours, and half way through they would have to bring the zamboni through, and then you had to wait to go back on the ice. The guys who had the double bladed skates ruined the ice once they got on there.

I skateboarded and did some BMX riding when I was younger. I had some bad injuries with jumps and falls, so I had to retire. Every now and again in the summer I will go to a skate park and go on the ramp, but I feel so old compared to all the young'ins hanging around. I am skating this weekend on the outdoor rinks and playing pickup hockey and practicing my shot. Winter sports are about all I have come post-Xmas.

I've played hockey most of my life...so ice skating is a given for me. We spent hours upon hours on a frozen pond when I was a kid. Me and my wife roller blade...nothing fancy...there's a huge parking lot just down the road from us, and we skate there in the evenings when most of the cars are gone...great exercise. Not much of a skateboarder....

I have a natural aversion to broken bones, so no... I don't skate!
I would love to ice skate though, probably because it's something we can't do here.

Yes to everything for me. If it had wheels, I was riding it. Naturally, I ice skated and played hockey too. Still do that....on roller blades now though.

Hey 80'srocked, you know much about the Joey Mullen story? Anyways, he was a NY kid who grew up in Hell's Kitchen. He could only do roller hockey which he played in the projects. An sinspiring story, him and his brother Brian made it to the NHL. Joey became the highest american scorer ever for St.Louis, Calgary, and Pittsburgh before Mike Modano eclipsed him.
Yep Kev, Tom Cochrane and Red Rider are institution here, and how could I forget the Tragically Hip's Fifty Mission Cap?, "Bill Barilko dissapeared.....that summer, the last goal he ever scored(in overtime), won the Leafs the Cup, they didn't win another until 1962, the year he was discovered....I stole this from a hockey card, I keep tucked up under....my fifty mission cap!"

I did not know that Rip. Thanks for the info. I actually don't know alot of history of players and teams in hockey. Baseball is different. I am more of a historian in that sport. I do love both big time though.

I was prohibited from skateboarding as a kid so I guess that's why I did it lol. I was fortunate enough to never break any bones over it although I did receive various scrapes, cuts, and bruises. I witnessed my then best friend once land wrists first off a stair rail into a parking lot jutting both wrist bones out of the skin. I think I was as sick as he was upon seeing it.......

I grew up on the ice. I have never been able to get the whole thing down with wheels though. I have not skated in a long time, but am actually giving it a whirl tonight for a pond game.

I had a Gator Vision board.... but I was much more into the freestyle, still have my old GT Pro performer from 84.

Loved my "american flag" board, till it cracked in the middle when I was showing off! Loved my BMX bike, till a bunch of punks stole it! Never could get that ice skating down, but my sister did. Never got on the whole rollerblade deal. Had a pair of old skool roller skates with rainbows on em' back in the day though!

Yeah, I've never even tried roller blading. My friend even offered hers for me to borrow since we wear the same size shoe, but I declined. I don't wanna wipe out. I wish I would have learned to ride a skateboard!

i was a total skate punk growing up. i owned a lot of decks. my first was an agent orange deck. i also owned the first rob roskopp, a jeff phillips, some schmitt stix board, and a per welinder which was my last one until i bought some generic powell peralta board about 10 yrs ago. always rode on indy trucks. i had a set of powell peralta street style wheels i loved. i wish i never stopped and i wish i still had all of my old stuff.
i'm just getting my 4yr old into skating/roller blading(for hockey only) so i may eventually jump back on a board.

I got into skating because my older brothers played hockey. I didn't want to be left behind. My dad tied my first pair of skates when I was 3.

I skated everywhere...I was like Tootie. I had a pair of sneaker rollerskates, and we skated on the playground, on the sidewalks-everywhere.
When I was a kid, my parents friends owned the old roller rink in my hometown, we went every weekend. I loved it.
In high school they had closed the old one, so they took buses to one in a town about 20 minutes away...kids use to sit on top of each other on the bus. I remember someone stole my Nikes. I was so upset, my grandma had bought me them, they were powder blue with a yellow swoosh...I was devastated. Plus, I had to go on the bus, in my socks. My best friend gave me 1 of her shoes, so we hopped home. We were goofs. I was traumatized over that one.
They built a new roller rink...and we went to dances, and danced on the floor in our socks.
I loved rollerskating to the music of the 70s and 80s-that's what made it awesome. I could do all kinds of tricks, and skate backwards.
Remember the Hokey Pokey?
Someone gave my mom a shirt for Christmas this year and it said "What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about"?
I skateboarded everywhere too. My skateboard was wooden with a red stripe down the middle. I took it to the playground all the time.
I loved anything with wheels.
I love the movie Roller Boogie.
Rollerskating was like a way of life back then. Everyone I knew skated. I wish kids were more in to it.

I remember spending a boatload of money on my roller skates. I think I bought them in 6th grade, but I bought them a little big in case I grew anymore, but I didn't grow much. Now that I think back, I shouldn't have spent so much on them, my friends had nice ones that weren't so expensive.
