Devolution here,

I was trying to figure out how I wanted to do this. There are plenty of bands that only have one good song. Dexy's Midnight Runners, Tommy Tutone, Visage, Tony Basil....and more.

(Region sensitive reply awaited)

But my question is... (based on a topic I will be posting in a second) What are some of the great 2 hit wonder bands? Like Gerry Rafferty has a few good songs, but only 2 real hits

Baker Street and Right Down the Line.

Asia

Heat of the Moment and Only Time Will Tell.

And you might hate this but Corey Hart

Sunglasses at Night and Never Surrender.

Songs in Soundtracks don't count, becuase only people that love the movie know them. Otherwise General Public would have like 7 good songs.

So what do you have for me?

Hmmmm....many may dubb Mr Mister as one hit wonders, citing Broken Wings as their only hit....but I do loves me some Kyrie....and I think they did OK in the charts with this one? Shockingly....they have a Greatest Hits album....WOW!

Whitesnake....Here I Go Again and Is This Love

Roxette....take away their Soundtrack Hit, "It Must Have Been Love"...and all they got is "The Look" and Listen To Your Heart...I know they have a couple other hits, but none that I'd ever want to hear again.

Ace of Bass...who can name three Ace of Base songs? They've got The Sign and All That She Wants....that's it....

Christopher Cross...again, take away his soundtrack hit from Arthur (Arthur's Theme), and you got Ride Like The Wind and Sailing

Kim Carnes..I own and love her Greatest Hits album, but not much chart success except Bette Davis Eyes and Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer ' Kenny Rogers....

Juice Newton....Angel Of The Morningand It's A Heartache.

Hmmm..Not to be a knitpicker or anything, but I see a couple things wrong here..

1. Whitesnake?? I know "Here I go again" and "Is this Love" were their biggest hits...but you're forgetting "Still of the Night." I may be mistaken, but I believe that was a hit too because the video got heavy airplay on MTV and it's played alot on the radio. And it was even called one of the Top 30 greatest Hard Rock songs of all time by VH-1 and Rolling Stone.

2. Ace of Base - God I hated this group...so it's a wonder why I'm even pointing this out..lol. But anyway, you're forgetting their last hit they had before fading away into oblivion.."Beautiful Life."

Anyway...to add to this list:

-Tommy Tutone - 867-5309/Jenny & Angel Say No

-Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died in your arms & I've been in love before

-Golden Earring - Radar Love & Twilight Zone

-Presidents of the United States of America - Lump & Peaches

-Romeo Void - Never Say Never & A Girl in Trouble (is a temporary thing)

-Milli Vanilli - Girl you know it's true & Blame it on the Rain

Posted by Leo Logan (Member # 9206) on :

Spin Doctors - "Two Princes" and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong"
Tone Loc - "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina"
Paula Cole - "I Don't Want to Wait" and "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone"

And also Pyro, Milli Vanilli had two other #1 hits along with "Blame It on the Rain"; that is "Baby Don't Forget My Number" and "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You".

I hope you are joking about Icehouse. They are massive in Australia and had many hits.

Posted by Leo Logan (Member # 9206) on :

I'm not joking, Bernie. These two songs are their only Top 40 hits in the United States.

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

In the USA, perhaps. However they have many good songs. I would have to say that most of their songs are good and had many hits above the top 40 here in Australia and other countries too. Crazy and Electric Blue are not even close to being their best songs either. Icehouse is without a doubt one of the few bands that has not many bad songs.

Devolution here,

Bonnie Tyler sang It's a Heartache not Juice Newton.

Christopher Cross sang Think Of Laura and Never Be The Same also.

Icehouse is purely region specific, as are groups like Madness which I love.

Kev,
Dagnerous is Roxette's best song!

Pyro - Good points. I guess just going from personal experience....I couldn't have named 3 Whitesnake songs if you offered to pay me a million dollars...on the other hand...they wern't really my cup of tea...but liked their two songs. * I just listened to "Still Of The Night"...not bad at all...a bit familiar, but somehow I missed this one....very Zeppeliny! And Ace of Base...you're totally right....I just tried to block them out!

Devo - "It's A Heartache"....my bad....Juice Newton did do a version of the song, but Bonnie's is the one I know and love. If we take that from Juice, we could give her "Queen Of Hearts"!

Christopher Cross - Again my bad....though I believe "Think Of Laura" would not have been a hit if it wern't for General Hospital....I remember, er, ahhh, my wife remembers this song being cued every time Laura was seen prior to letting everyone know she was officially back...good times! Just listened to Never Be The Same....I do remember that one now, but don't recall it being a big hit. Poor Christopher....frequently referenced as an example of how "Video Killed The Raidio Star"...great singer, but an average Joe~!

And Dangerous....are you freaking kidding me!! I hate that song, but alas, you are right...a hit nonetheless! *I think Roxette and Ace Of Base should do a revival tour.....hmmmmm....tons of fun there....you'd have to pay me no less than $5000 to go....seriously....I wouldn't even go for $4,999.99!!!

Two things... Kev - I love Roxette! And I believe there's a group of us that love the song, "Dangerous." [Smile] It's my favorite song by them! Another song that was on the charts by them, and maybe not until the early 90s (?) but "Fading Like A Flower" was big as well.

And "Still Of The Night" is my favorite Whitesnake song too. It rocks.

My choices:

Glass Tiger - Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone) & Someday

Stacey Q - We Connect & Two Of Hearts

Naked Eyes - Always Something There To Remind Me & Promises, Promises

Samantha Fox - Touch Me & Naughty Girls

Great Call on Fine Young Cannibals!

Yeah, I definitely think that a few bands are getting misrepresented due to their success in USA. Crowded House is another. I know that they may not have had too many hits over there, but back here in Aus they are/were huge. But it's cool, I do totally know where everyone is coming from [Wink]

I agree with Bernie, Crowded House have no place in this thread. They were/are a massively popular band in this part of the world as well.

Thanks J2ME. For you guys in places were Icehouse and Crowded House aren't so popular I urge you to look at the links posted by J2ME and to also look at pretty much any of Icehouse's stuff. Icehouse is one of my favourite bands and is really a very talented band. Crowded House are also immensely talented and have many many good songs.

No worries. To be honest, I've never really listened to Icehouse -- so I'll go check them out.

I'll give you some good ones.

Touch The Fire:

Great Southern Land:

You may be familiar with this one if you have seen Young Einstein.

We can get together:

A few to get you started. I hope you like it. Icehouse was originally known as The Flowers. Their first album was called Icehouse and then later changed their name to Icehouse.

Devolution here,

Cindy! Point of No Return is an Expose song. They are a three hit wonder,

But that is pushing it.

I'll never get over you getting over me... is awful.

Bernie, I don't totally love Young Einstein, but respect if you do.

Devo, Young Einstein is one of those movies that I saw at the cinema back at the ripe old age of 7. I have seen it recently and still liked it. I saw a lot of movies in the late 80's and early 90's at the cinema and can't recall disliking many. One of the only movies that sent me to sleep during this period was when I went to see The Burbs which was for some reason double featured with Working Girl. Yes, I fell asleep during Working Girl not The Burbs. Talk about boring.

BTW I love Madness, mainly due to watching excessive amounts of The Young Ones as a kid.

Posted by Leo Logan (Member # 9206) on :

Ronnie, Samantha Fox also had another top 10 hit single in the US with "I Wanna Have Some Fun".

And Devolution, Expose had eight top 10 hits such as "Come Go with Me", "Point of No Return", "Let Me Be the One", "Seasons Change", "What You Don't Know", "When I Looked at Him", "Tell Me Why" and "I'll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)"

My other suggestion: Extreme - "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted".

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Extreme got a lot of air time with 'play with me' for the millions of viewings from Bill & Ted's. Man I love that song.

I am sure Extreme definitely would not want to be remembered for More Than Words, but hey they are.

No worries kev. I kinda like Whitesnake..so that's the only reason I pointed it out. Even though none of those songs are my favorite by them..I think my favorite Whitesnake jam would have to be "Slow & Easy"..it's just a great sleaze rock song and it's great to have sex to..hehe.

And yeah..Ace of Base [Roll Eyes] ..lets..just move on...

And oh yeah..I totally forgot about those other Milli Vanilli songs...so looks like I goofed too...so just strike them off my list.

Bernie,

I've just listened to "Hey Little Girl", and had a WTF moment. I recognised the song immediatly, but always thought it was by Roxy Music. [Embarrassed]

Anyway, after watching a few other videos, they have a new fan.

Devo,

Asia also had a Top 10 hit in America with "Don't Cry"

Leo - That is correct about Samantha Fox. I should have known better ha. Thanks for the reminder. [Smile]

Expose... though I am not a big fan, did have a handful of singles that were popular.

What about Suzanne Vega - "Tom's Diner" and "Luka"

Yeah, Hey Little Girl is another classic of theirs. I am glad you like them. They are a magnificent band. Out of their entire catalogue I only dislike a few of their songs.
