This roller rink disco ball thread is inspired by a discussion i just had with a couple of the DJs from the 80's Neon Dance thread:

Basically, this Saturday night we are holding an '80's Rewind Roller Skating Extravaganza' and once again you're the DJs. So close your eyes for a moment and start thinking about the tunes you want to include for an incredible night of cute flirtation and hopefully a bit of romance with someone special.

 -

So DJs .. let's each spin two tunes and pass it to the next DJ with the hopes of reminding everyone of how much fun it would have been at a roller rink in the 80's.

I'm gonna try to get this skate party started with:

 - (click to play)

and

 - (click to play)

Who's up next? .. cause I'm off to start a freaking fire with someone amazingly special! [Cool]

valley! this is a great thread! [Smile] i loved your other Neon Dance thread....this is a kick-butt part II, skater style! i love it.

this would be my theme song, for sure...

Debbie Deb - Lookout Weekend
 - Play

Madonna - True Blue ..not a slow couple skate, but definitely one to skate to while holding hands with your crush.
 - Play

gaaahh Pyro! haha you beat me by a hair, but luckily we posted different debbie deb songs haha. [Big Grin]

great picks, you guys!

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Pyro.. those are both wicked tunes.. I should've known you would have Debbie Deb in your collection.. I was totally saving it for round two! [Cool]

Wow.. Ronnie has just snuck into the DJ booth and Debbie Deb back to back is where it's at it appears.

This thread is only six tunes deep and I'm already lacing up my skates extra tight. [Big Grin]

haha..sorry ronnie...didn't mean to nudge you out like that. But can you ever go wrong with multiple Debbie Deb tracks? I think not. Very nice choice in throwin some Madonna in there too I might add [Cool]

Yup, this is definitely fixing to be another totally awesome playlist of tunes here.

pyro - double debbie deb is never a bad thing...get your quads out, and let's roll. [Big Grin]

I know its not off this album, but this pic had the nice neon feel to it.

I felt this song had to be included,

Skateaway: Dire Straits:

 - Play

Neon / Twilight - what's the difference, plus I love this song. I play it a lot in my car but I would get a rush rollerskating to this:

Fire in the Twilight: Wang Chung

 -
Play

Posted by Muffy Tepperman (Member # 1551) on :

Have you ever tried to do the twist on rollerskates?? lol they have rollerskates over there right??

I'm thinking some upbeat tempo songs will do for Muffy picks,

Not a fan of the couples skate.....I was super shy back then [Smile]

We got some great upbeat jams here..but I think it's time to slow things down a little. So here are a couple slower jams to gracefully roll about to...

The Four Tops - When She Was My Girl

I agree, Pyro. When I went to the roller rink, it was all about Pop and freestyle music!

Stevie B - "I Wanna Be the One"

Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :

another another old favorite....

Stacey Q - "Two of Hearts"

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

Veronica, i love the Stevie B song! i used to have that cassette tape and that song reminds me of 4th grade big time haha... played that one out. [Smile]

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Okay.. I'm back in the booth.. sorry everyone.. my experience with someone special actually caused me to burst into flames last night and it took most of today to extinguish me. [Embarrassed]

So I'm digging deep into my roller boogie vault because the DJs are bringing it strong on this thread that has turned into 80's awesomeness.

So let's spin these next:

 - (click to play)

and

 - (click to play)

Thanks everyone.. this thread is wicked! [Cool]

Just backing up my Dire Straits choice:

Yes, I think it works: I don't see how it's out of place if you are familiar with the song. Yes if I played one of their rockier songs it would but I think Skateaway is fine, and is about roller skating - roller girl.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Muffy.. I know music isn't your thing really, but you just spun two awesome tracks! I'm a huge fan of The Flirts, but Buffalo Stance definitely makes me think of skate time.

Ronnie.. They're Playing Our Song! that is just a hidden gem of a track by Trinere. I've been listening to it all morning. It reminds of 4 grade even though it didn't even exist then. ha [Wink]

Veronica.. you nailed it with Stevie B. - I Wanna Be The One.. great tune.

Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :

val - 4th & 5th grade were the best for me. [Smile]

My choice is looking better already. Until I bought Making Movies on Vinyl I always thought the song was called Roller Girl.
