Information Society is a group from Minneapolis, MN that became popular in the late 80's with the song "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)." Their music was a mix of freesyle, dance, pop, and maybe a little bit of house mixed in as well. If you ever went to a roller rink in the late 80's or early 90's, you probably heard many of their songs playing there. Speaking of roller rinks, lead singer Kurt Harland often wore roller skates onstage during their concerts [Big Grin]

They are hailed as an 80's one-hit wonder but they had a lot of other great songs like "Walking Away," "Think," "Running," and "Peace & Love, Inc." They broke up in the early 90's but have recently gotten back together and released a couple of new albums and gone on tour.

VH1 tried to get the band back together on their "Bands Reunited" show but were un-successful. This show actually got me interested in them and made me buy their first three albums, which are all good.

Does anyone else like this band?

Veronica.. I've always enjoyed Information Society.

"What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)" is a great tune and as an original "Star Trek" fan during my childhood.. that beginning with Dr. McCoy saying "It's worked so far, but we're not out yet!" and then Spock's "Pure Energy" line throughout made it just so quirky cool in my opinion.

"Walk Away" and "Think" are excellent tunes as well.

But fans of the movie "Earth Girls Are Easy" might be interested to know that Information Society also did the incredible vibey tune "Hit Me" ..

I am a fan. They can do no wrong in my eyes, so maybe I'm more than a casual fan. I love their 1988 self-titled album, not a bad song on it. It's one of those albums I played a zillion times and got me through my teenage years.

The whole 'Bands Reunited' debacle that Veronica mentioned was pretty funny to read about.

They released a new album, Synthesizer, and toured for it a few years ago. It was an awesome time to be a fan of theirs, with them reuniting after so many years, releasing a new album, and touring. They performed a live cover of Gary Numan's 'Are Friends Electric' that was super cool.

They also added a cover of 'Express Yourself' to a Madonna tribute album - a pretty good version.

SA, what Kurt wrote about that Bands Reunited episode made me realize just how fake reality shows are! Very interesting read.
