There weren't a lot of women rappers back in the day, Salt n Pepper springs to mind, also some others.

Probably the ones I liked the mose were:

1) MC Lyte- she's just killer on the mic, I cram to understand is just brilliant.
2) Queen Latifah- She might have been the most commercially successful, she could hold her won too.
3) Roxanne Shante-The only woman in the Juice Crew, she ehld her own too, especially with all those Roxanne songs back then.

Devolution here,

No the Queen was out for a long time. I keep having to tell myself that you are like 16.

MC Trouble was going to be pretty big but I think she ended up passing away right around 1989. Also you can't forget Salt-n-Pepa.

Salt'n'Pepa are the only ones I can think of. I didn't realise Queen Latifah was 80's, I thought she more 90's.

Queen Latifah has been around for a long time. I don't care for female rappers (though I do like male rappers), but I did always like her stuff, especially U.N.I.T.Y.

Was it MC Lyte that did 'Ice Cream Dream' for the 'Mo' Money' soundtrack? Whoever that was IS a terrific rapper!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Neneh Cherry. I say this because she was a singer too. Buffalo Stance is one of my all time favorite songs. Her album Raw Like Sushi was amazing at the time.

I also had one of Queen Latifah's early albums with "Fly Girl" on it. No one mentioned Monie Love yet, that's odd...I also really loved Salt N Pepa's Blacks Magic album but that was 1990 wasn't it?
