Ticketmaster just sent me an email about an upcoming show: THE NEW CARS and BLONDIE.
What up with THE CARS? Anyone know how many original members are touring?

Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes reunite The Cars with new lead singer Todd Rundgren

I like the Cars and I like Rundgren but not too sure how I feel about this.

The Cars are one of my all-time favorite bands. Rick Ocasek wrote all their songs and his voive is so different from everyone else's.

I also loved Ben Orr, their late singer who sang back ups and leads on tons of their songs.

Without these two, it just can't be "The Cars". I heard Rundgren singing Dangerous Type, and I was turned off.

This is a concert I will not be seeing.

Man, I want to see Blondie before thet retire for good, but he Cars without Ricky O? C'mon. Even though I like a few Rundrgen songs and he produced some of my fave albums(Psych Furs, NY Dolls), I just have a hard time trying ti visualise this.

I heard about this, but I figured Todd was going to replace Ben Orr, who died a few years back ( [Frown] ). If so, I'd agree it's not the same without Ric Ocasek - I believe he does producing and songwriting these days, so maybe he's just not into it.

BTW, Blondie's got some great songs too. Even though they're more of a '70s band, they definitely had an influence on new wave and MTV (heck, "Rapture" was one of the first rap-type songs). [Wink]

VH-1 Classic had a Hangin' With Ric Ocasek episode but I didn't get to see it. I wonder if he was asked about The New Cars.

I also saw an advertisement for The New Cars this morning on VH-1 Classic. I also heard the Blondie/ Doors Remix called Rapture Riders. I don't care for it.

i read in the paper this morning that blondie, the cars, black sabbath and the sex pistols were at a ceremony because they'd just been added to the rock n roll hall of fame. the sex pistols didn't show up and blondie didn't play because debbie harry doesn't get along with the rest of the band anymore. hmm.

I saw a video for "The New Cars", that's what they call themselves now. They just don't sound the same without Rick and Ben's voices.

What are they trying to do? Also, if Rick wrote and produced most of their songs, then doesn't he hold the rights to them? How are they getting away with this?

I saw that new video on VH-1 Classic this morning. The backup vocals sound a little like The Cars. I guess they figured if Queen could do it so could they.

True, but Queen had no other choice because Freddy Mercury died. If they wanted to tour again, they needed a new singer. Rick is still alive, I'm wondering why he didn't come on board.

Paul Rogers is a very accomplished and respected singer who is a very admirable replacement for Freddie; unfortunately there only was and can be one Freddie Mercury.

I understand that Sammy, I have no problem with Queen or even INxs for that matter. The bands had no say when their singers died.

I'm annoyed that Rick is alive and well and he is not part of this. I just want to why. I wonder if there is some bad blood between them or if he just didn't wanna tour again.

Rick wrote all of their songs and lyrics. To me he IS The Cars.

I'm agreeing with Ali on this one. I'll pass on the New Cars if Rick Ocasek is not included. I got to see Blonde recently, unfortunately Deborah Harry is not the same singer she once was, I'm sad to report. Still worth it if your a Blonde fan though.
