I do! I do! Prince is the coolest 80's artist & actor I have ever heard of! [Big Grin] Any other Prince lovers out there? [Wink]

I love Prince. I was actually thinking about posting about the song 17 Days...I play it all the time, and it is one of my favorite songs he did.

But, I love: When Doves Cry, I would Die 4 U, Take Me with U, You've got the Look, Mountains,
Little Red Corvette, Delirious, and 1999...plus many more.

OMG, I love all those songs, too! [Big Grin] Especially 1999! [Wink]

I actually was a Prince fan when the song "Controversy" came out years ago. It built since then....I love the B-Sides like "Erotic City" & others. Purple Rain was actually a very good movie.

Not to mention that Prince was behind Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl" and Sheila E's "The Glamouruos Life". [Cool]

My fave Prince songs are not from the 80's, I really don't like his 80's stuff.

I love, "Cream", "7", "Diamonds and Pearls" and "Most beautiful girl in the world" the best.

His 90's songs are cool, too. I once parodied TMBGITW for my father, & he loved it! He didn't even know it was Prince 'till I told him! [Big Grin]

Prince is a genius, he's gone through some patchy moments in his career the past 10 years or so, but he has a really good body of work. He was untouchable during the 82-87 period, I had chance to see him a few years ago, but I didn't make it, silly me. I really like some of prince's not well known song like Free on the 1999 album.

Prince is an awesome individual. He was way ahead of his time. I'm a huge fan of his music and movies. I tend to favor Purple Rain...

I actually quoted the song "Free" in the section that went below my yearbook photo in 2001.

I used the quote "Be glad that you are free...There's many a man who's not".

I guess I wrote that because that's how I felt about my graduating class. We were free.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

I think that 'Sign O' The Times' was a terrific CD. I COuld Never Take The Place Of Your Man, and If I was Your Girlfriend were without a doubt 2 of his best!

I'm straight and Prince is one of my all time favorites. Especially the 82-88 era.

I was in a punk rock band and everything, yet, still love Prince.

I even love the stuff he wrote for other bands, the Time, Vanity 6, Mavis Staples etc

If I could only find the Apollonia stuff on CD.

I like the 80s Prince better than anything he has done since Batman Soundtrack. He has evolved so much through his music that he doesn't even sound the same to me. It would be cool if he would go back and do a Purple Rain 2 album and see if he could come up with any more songs!

I wholeheartedly agree Riptide. Prince's body of work is great. This includes the many hit songs he's written and produced for other artists over the years. That coupled with his enormous musical talent makes him, IMO, one of the true musical genius of our time.

I plan to become his newest protege. [Smile]

sorta like an Apollonia of the modern times?

The Beautiful Ones from Purple Rain is still simply brilliant.I love the way it starts so slow and gentle then gradually builds to his screaming climax. And its still a perfect song about lost love.At least thats how i continue to interpret it.Superb.

I’m guessing you already know about his new single 'Te Amo Corazon' and upcoming album ‘3121’. The video for said single will be directed by Salma Hayek, who did her own version of this song on the soundtrack to 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico'

i have to agree. but then, there so many other songs he did that are just as good. of course there are the obvious, more popular songs like purple rain, little red corvette...and so on. but i am more into his songs like, gigalos, do me baby, erotic city, pop life, adore & many others.
my favorite has to be i would die 4 u, because it holds a special place in my heart as well as a great memory.
prince's work is so varied and yet, he still has managed to keep his own sense of self and style, with his music ranging from funk, to pop, to rock and roll. he plays awesome guitar and beautiful piano, writes for other artists, & produces.
riptide said it best, the man is truly a genius.

U R so right! [Big Grin]

I have a few Prince questions:

1. How come he never made a Christmas album?

2. What's with the different colors in his wardrobe? (i.e. red & black)

3. It took him a whole year to make the new "3121" album?!

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

Oh, & another one too: Will he ever have another baby? [Smile]

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

And where does he live now? He moved out of Minneapolis...

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

I remember a few years back that he donated some money to a little town here in NC called Princeville after they had a flood. That was pretty cool that he would do that...

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

I heard of that story, too. That was nice of him... [Smile]

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

I also heard that Prince wrote a song for the Live Aid concert...too bad he couldn't make it to the real show... [Frown]

Out of curiosity, who wants to buy his next album? Me! [Big Grin]

Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :

So I watched SNL last niht and caught then two new Prince songs, they aren't bad, it should be a good, solid album. I just wish he didn't hurt his career in the 90's with the name change and all the other weird sideshow stuff.

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

I saw it, too! He was so awesome! And that Prince skit was hilarious! [Big Grin]

Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :

I'm suprised he even let them do a skit as egotistical as he used 2 be....

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

Boy, back when I first started liking Prince, I didn't know he was egotistical...

Posted by Marty McFly (Member # 4403) on :

Yeah, he's cool (definitely unique in music, image and personality, though). [Smile]

I've always liked a few of his songs (more the individual hits), especially "1999" -- which is strange to hear today in a futuristic sense, LOL (that would be like if someone came out with a song about 2019).

I also saw the movie Purple Rain a few years back, which got me a bit more interested again. Of course it was fictionalized, but it's somewhat based on his life up till that time.

OMG, I just watched Purple Rain a few days ago! [Big Grin]

Posted by Marty McFly (Member # 4403) on :

I'm sure I'm forgetting some details 'cause it's been awhile. But I really remember feeling sorry for Prince's character all throughout the movie - you could sorta see how he was the way he was, just from his homelife and such.

Prince is cool. My best friend back in 6th grade introduced me to more of his music than what was just on the radio and over the years, I really became a fan. He is extremely talented. He has such a catalog of music but some of my favorite songs are:

Pop Life
When You Were Mine
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Erotic City
The Beautiful Ones
Theives In The Temple
Kiss
Batdance or 200 Balloons (the original)
U Got The Look
My Name Is Prince
The Continental
Sweet Baby
319 (Elizabeth Berkley from Saved By The Bell did a hell of a strip to this song in the movie Showgirls)
I Hate U
P Control

I could go on and on so I'll stop there.

I find it curious that every woman Prince gets involved with ends up with her own group or album. No one has mentioned his ex-wife Mayte. She was an incredible dancer in the performances I saw her do with Prince. She also had an album and re-did two of his songs "If I Love U 2 Nite," which was actually quite good and "The Most Beautiful Boy In The World," which was not so good.

I know after their child died, their marriage fell apart and she dated Tommy Lee for awhile.

Finally, does any one remember that Prince gave Carmen Electra her start? It appeared that he had an interest in her and therefore, produced her album but then he met Mayte and well, Carmen was history, just like her album.

Oh yeah, one more thing..Mouse Avenger, do you like his new song, "Black Sweat?" I like it better than the first song he released off this 3121 album. It sounds more like his old stuff.

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

Oooh, I love that song! I just downloaded it, as a matter of fact! [Big Grin]

In answer to your questions:

1. He lives in Toronto...

2. With his wife.

(Which SHOULD have been either you or moi...grr.)

yes it should have been ME! lol...or you;)
i thought someone said he got divorced...im so out of the loop lol

Posted by The Mouse Avenger (Member # 4406) on :

Well, I can help you. First he was married to his back-up dancer Mayte Garcia, then he had the baby with her, then the baby died, then they divorced. A while later, he married Manuela Testolini...the object of my jealousy.

thanks mouse avenger....she would of been the object of my jelousy as well if it were a year ago lol.....see what love does to ya? rofl...

He did?

I know that he recorded a song (can't remember the title right now, though) for the We Are The World album, but didn't participate in the song itself. If I recall correctly, he had some particular issues and problems with the way the whole thing was being handled, so he recorded just a solo song for the album.

I believe that song was called "4 The Tears In Your Eyes".

Christopher Tracy: I must have that disease, what's the name of it?
Mary: It's called Stupid.
Mary: If you don't get out of my house, I'll have my father's guards throw you out!
Christopher Tracy: Why? 'Cause you ain't bad enough to do it yo'self?

K I am a little off on this one because I just read the title so I am going to respond. I honestly do not know what the big deal is about Prince. I mean he has some awesome songs but he looks like a little bug to me. He and I and about a million other people share the same birthday so I have always been a little intrigued with him because of that. I dont' think that I would even purchase any new stuff that he has out now because I think he has changed so much.

I like his 80s stuff, but anything post-1989 is awful IMO. He would been better off to retire in 1989...

"Diamonds and Pearls" was a cool ballad type song. I also liked "Money Don't Matter 2 Nite" from the same album.

That was 1991, but alot of pop culture from that year had sort of a late '80s afterglow on it. Truthfully 1989-91 is almost an era unto itself, like after the "real '80s" but before the "grunge '90s".

So, your description would actually fit that. [Big Grin]

I've heard a few songs from 3121 and I really only liked "Black Sweat" and "Love." Give me "Controversey" or "Erotic City" anyday!

More of a Purple Rain sound. Nothin beats him in the 80s....

Forgive me for bumping up an old thread. I hadn't been on the forum in a few years. [Embarrassed] But I had to respond in a thread dedicated to my favorite artist. I'm a Prince fanatic, hardcore since the 1999 album (hence the username). I was hardcore to the point that I used to buy the vinyl AND cassette releases of his albums, as well as the regular vinyl singles and 12" maxi-singles because I wanted EVERYTHING he put out. The 80s were his golden age, but I'm still a major fan to this day. Seen him in concert three times and was lucky to get his autograph at a record signing (back when he was the unpronounceable symbol). So yeah, to answer the thread question: ME!!!!! lol
