I like this movie.
It´s a very good relationship drama directed by Ted Demme and written by Scott Rosenberg.

"Rosenberg also wrote the tv-show October Road,
which is loosely based on what happened after Beautiful Girls.
Both Beautiful Girls and October Road take place in the fictional Massachusetts town of Knights Ridge,
and have similar characters, jobs, plot lines."
(Wikipedia)

Sadly i never watched October Road when it was aired here.

The cast is awesome:

Guys:

Matt Dillon
Timothy Hutton
Michael Rapaport
Noah Emmerich
Max Perlich
Pruitt Taylor Vince

Girls:

Uma Thurman
Martha Plimpton
Rosie O'Donnell
Mira Sorvino
Lauren Holly
Natalie Portman
Annabeth Gish

Hutton is great, Dillon is great... well you get the picture.
I love this Rosie O´Donnell monologue:
(language warning [Cool] )

Beautiful Girls - Rosie O'Donnell

This is one of the very few 90s flicks i´ve watched twice [Smile] [Smile]

I've always liked this movie too. The Rosie O'Donnell monologue/diatribe was hilarious! I still crack up everytime I watch it.

One of my favorite movies. I watch it every year when we get a good snow. October Road wasn't as good as Beautiful Girls, but that could be the influence of the network (ABC), and then they abrubtly cancelled it. Some of the actors returned to film a 15 minute ending, (not sponsored by ABC) which was nice considering they left us viewers up in the air.

Natalie Portman was brilliant in this flick.

The cast had such an 80's connection to it that it made you wish that the movie lasted longer.

I liked this back when it came out, but a lot of time has passed, not sure what I'd think about it now. That was almost half my life ago, and I have grown more immature over time.

I remember the 'Sweet Caroline' sing-a-long was fun.

If you liked movies like 'Singles', 'Dazed & Confused' or 'Garden State', you'll probably love this.

Good little movie. Very navel-gazing and 90's in vibe, but good.

This is such an underrated flick..

Matt Dillon plays a character that totally fits his persona.

And while the Timothy Hutton and Natalie Portman convos were incredible.. the undertone just felt uncomfortable because of the age difference. Loved the ice pond convo though and especially the look on his married buddy's face when Portman does a pirouette into Hutton's arm.

And Muffy.. I get what you're saying about the soundtrack.

This is a fine little film. I remember an interview with director Ted Demme (rest in peace, man) back in the day where he said that he had to fight with squeamish studio execs over Tim Hutton's small, chaste peck on Natalie Portman's cheek. I thought that it was entirely appropriate and sweet, nothing salacious intended or implied. I also thought that until "Black Swan," this was Portman's best performance.

Agreed, I thought the whole thing was handled so well and yeah I think it's her best performance outside of Black Swan too.

I feel like watching this again already [Smile]
